Sony isn't losing enough on the ps3 to quit, so there will be one most likely.
As for it's power, i expect it to basically be a double of the ps3, 2 cells, double ram, etc., one thing i do think sony will be sure to keep this time is backwards compatibility, since arguably as much as 65% of people looking to buy a ps3 won't because of no ps2 B/C, also why i don't have one.

Of course i'm sure sony's making a ps2 emulator to fix it, but who knows if the damage isn't already done.

That's one of the biggest reasons I decided on a 360; even though I had to download the software to play my old games, I can still do it. Now that I have a 360 I'm not willing to shell out the dough for a PS3, so an emulator for me is too little, too late.

The reason it's more expensive is because of the hardware differences and some of the features it has. But I own a PS3 and if you have no internet or very slow internet it's not worth 500 bucks. Most of the features are internet related. It has an internet browser, a game called Playstation Home (which you don't buy, it comes when you update the system.), another type of game called Life with Playstation, Playstation Store (Xbox equivalent: Xbox Live), the chat room capability (which unless you buy the Playstation Eye camera it's pretty much usless), and a few other things, but they are all internet related. So unless you have good internet the PS3 is just not worth it. On the PS4 side there is a website about the whole thing here: ps4forums.org

If they put backwards compatibility back in or made a hardware add on or something that allows you to play ps2 games again I'm sure they're sales would go up again. hm. Yeah you're right. I hope we DO see the day, because after finding out my PS3 model won't play PS2 games, I was very dissapointed :(

tatsuya1221 basically put what I would expect but I also feel they will add more as far as Multimedia goes. I expect a robust online experience that will finally rival XBOX with more Co-Op games, any of which probably based off their top titles, imagine a multiplayer Metal Gear Solid.. Yeah, I been praying for that experience for a while.

But also on the multimedia front I wouldn't besurprised if they made the PS4 extremely compatible with the PSP seeing as how it's doing better then PS3 in most countries. The only thing I would prefer as a fan is if they started making more RPG's. The reason I consider the PSOne one of the greatest systems ever is because nearly every RPG that was released on it was amazing.

Turn Based preferably, but will settle for this active battle system junk if I have to.

i respect sony as a company. they are extremly cutting edge. it will be technologically great, but maybe not the games.

I think sony should stop making consoles, they suck altogether. Wii60 ftw! Sony havnt got any good exclusive games no more, well apart from metel gear solid, that wasnt great either. Its a fact, 360 is more powerfull than the ps3. i think sony have drifted a little bit from the actual games, its more of a multimedia thing now, when i buy a console i buy it to play games, not to listen to music and watch movies, float around in the avatar world. If i wanted to do that i have itunes and habo hotel XD

No it's not. Measuring pound for pound processing throughput and graphics power, the PS3 is more powerful. It's a fact. The architecture is more difficult to program for, however, which is why many 360 games are aesthetically superior to their PS3 counterparts.

This is becoming less common as developers get to grips with the PS3 hardware, meaning PS3 exclusive games such as MGS4, Killzone 2 and Uncharted look astonishing, rivaled only by GOW 2 and a few others in terms of aesthetic appeal.

What Sony didn't realise going into the console battle was that power isn't everything.

Just for the record, i'm a satisfied 360 owner.

As for the PS4, i think Sony might take an alternative approach instead of simply multiplying the PS3's power and resources. I have no idea which approach they will try, however :D

If you noticed, starting with the origional playstation, Sony takes a while to get used to the hardware. I think they do it by choice since by the mid to late era of a particular console the games all look amazing for that console. It was evedent in both the PS and PS2. That trend will probaly continue with the PS3. Give it another year or so and you'll be blown away on a consistent bases. Take FFXII it looked amazing on the PS2 and early PS3 games graphics wheren't much better. That's changing now. I think sony looks at long term thus putting out a powerfull system that they can't do a whole lot with at first. Hell, the PSP can handle slightly better graphics the the PS2 and it's a hand held. Both the games I have for it match or are better then anything I've seen on that console. I see this trend continueing with the PS4.

You know, it wouldn't surprise me if $ony took ideals from the Wii and added it to their high powered system. Just a thought I got after reading your post.

unfortunately i wont be buying a ps3 not until its price goes down. Its to expensive and there are just not enough games i am interested in. I can imagine the ps4 being priced at a 1,000 pounds or 2,000 dollars or something ridiculous.
