If your not turn off by male intamacy then the Vampire Lestat is a good read. That or the Lord of the Rings trlogy plus the Hobbit. The Narnia series is also a good read even if the books are quite short.

Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthsea

the Stone and the Flute by Hans Bemmann:
The Stone and the Flute tells the adventures of a young man called Listener in an idyllic fairytale world. A magic stone and a magic flute are meant to lead him the way to happiness, but because of his lack of knowledge of the human nature and his naivité he abuses his power and makes fateful choices. Fantastic encounters and long hardships give him new perspectives and deep human insights. The story of Listener's life is interwoven with his love story.

If U want something like Harry Potter these books R not for U. ;)

For a kid, Eyes of The Dragon by Stephen King

My All Time Fav is Blue World by Robert R. Mccammon, every short story still haunts my mind to this day, from drinking gasoline in a planet where the pavement isn't solid, to a vietnam vet tripping and flashing back in a diner....still creeps me out thinking about the kids who would be mumified in rooms that suck up oxygen....god it made no sense...

Yes, it is generally a book available for download as just a plain text file. They are commonly free as well. I will look for it.

Well, I paid £15 for it when it first came out (roughly $30)
and it was well worth it!

You may also wanna try Twilight, The first books not too good, but the second and third are great!

Lestat is the ****. Yea :D

I did not dig Twilight. At all D:

I know this is a few days old, but it caught my eye and I have to rant a bit. I don't really care too much about the story in Twilight and whatever, it was meant to be chick lit and so I just kind of steered away. However, I have to admit I am thoroughly ****ed at the author. Why does the story take place in Forks? Because she GOOGLED it. And now Forks is overrun with FREAKS that nobody can make leave because omg its in a book. About vampires. THAT'S FAKE.
Small town people just want to be left alone. This author needed to be like most other authors and just make some place up and leave us small town people out of it. How I tire of telling people "No, I have never seen a vampire. No that place is not here, that part of the movie was filmed in Kalama. No I've never seen anyone sparkle and if I did I'd scream and run away."
Anyways, I had to get that off of my chest.

On topic, I just read The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and I really liked it. You no doubt can tell it is depressing just by reading the title, but basically it's about a nerdy guy trying to make it in the world and overcome the teasing and torment of everyday life.

I've also read neuromancer and it's a great book. Have you read the other 2 novels from the Sprawl trilogy (hope to wrote it right) - Monalisa Overdrive and Count Zero? I only ask this because in my country have not been publisched (as long as I know) and I have the english versions. Must say that my english sucks and I'm reading very slowly. To get to the point: are the other novels as cool as the neuromancer? Should I get going to read them?

Pure Fantasy: Riftwar Saga by Raymond Feist The first 10 or 12 are good but they begin to taper off after that IMO.

Modern Fantasy: Simon Green's Nightside books
Jim Butcher's Dresden Files books

Both of those are Magical PI's. Simon Green is a little more Alice in Wonderland meets the Twilight Zone. Butcher's are more Bruce Willis meets Phillip Marlowe.

For pure entertainment i like the Nightside.

For a good read I prefer the Dresden Files.....not to mention Bob is just awsome.

I'm an avid fan of reading all kinds of genres, but I'm going to make a blanket statement and say that the best series I've ever had the pleasure to read is more recent work.

It's called the Night Angel Trilogy, by Brent Weeks. So. Epic. If you like fantasy, these books will rule your brain. Seriously, I recommend it to everyone that breathes the same air as me.

My favorite Fantasy Series is The Sword of Truth Series by Terry Goodkind
They made that Legend of the Seeker tv series based off the books thats running right now. But its really lame and they don't really make it interesting for me. The cool thing about the main charactor is that he grows into this awesome power but tv series just makes him seem like just some random guy caught in a story. Disapointing...but the books really awesome hehe

I love Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series. Be informed it isn't finished.

I have to say the best book I ever read was a tie Battlefield Earth and Without Remorse. By the best I mean the most entertaining and grab you to the poing of losing sense of time.

C. S. Friedman writes a dark but gripping story, In Conquest Born being one example.

The Dorsai series by Gordon R. Dirkson for something quick but nice, for the most part.

Joseph Delaney, The Last Apprentice, I would vouch for this series, yes, very much so, itsa good.

"The Song of Ice and Fire" is an epic series. The characters are well developed, and they evolve dramatically over the life of the series. It's interesting to read a great fantasy book that isn't full of magic and goblins, too.

Metro 2033, a great read and the book has been made into a game, which was fairly good

Wiki-

Metro 2033 (Метро 2033, in Russian) is a novel written by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky. In 2007, Glukhovsky was awarded the Encouragement Award of the European Science Fiction Society in the Eurocon contest in Copenhagen for his novel Metro-2033.

It first appeared online in 2002 and has later become an interactive experiment, drawing in thousands of readers from around Russia. In 2005 it was printed by an established publisher and has become a nationwide bestseller.

By 2009, over 400,000 copies of Metro 2033 had been sold in Russia alone. Online readers are five times as numerous. Foreign book rights have been sold to more than 20 countries. A video game, Metro 2033, developed by 4A Games, was released worldwide in March 2010 for PC and Xbox 360 platforms. Currently, Glukhovsky is in talks with Hollywood-based studios and producers to sell the film rights.
