I wouldn't want a PSP myself, too bulky. The DS are nice and tiny - the wireless NIC lets you have LAN parties on the spot. And it's fun to be able to send messages and doodles between friends. And that new Mario game *drools*
The new mario game kicks *** and someone should make a thread about it.
The PSP is huge, bulky, and clumsy with good graphics but terrible battery life. And who the hell had ever heard of a "dead pixel" on a non-Game Gear system before the PSP came out?

Actually..
1. psp battery life: varies depending on settings, max life is 8 hours on lowest setting which the screen is still plenty bright.
2. only 1 screen? how many screens do you want?!?
3. psp costs $200 for the core, $250 for the bundle. lol $400?, the heck did that come from..
4. Actually, games are great on both systems. DS probably has more though.
In short, ds does NOT kill the psp. Plus the psp can play movies and music and tons of homebrew app's. and features.
I mean if you like the ds over the psp, that's cool but saying that the ds kills the psp is a complete understatement.
but saying that the ds kills the psp is a complete understatement.
Yeah, it is.
You also have to factor in the individual games for each system. My main issues with the PSP are that it's expensive, it's trying to replace my Ipod, and it's longest time of battery life is about 7 hours, especially if you use your PSP frequently.
If the PSP were the same price, however, I'd definately buy that. But I would also keep my DS, cause Mario Kart and Tetris DS rule online. ;)

PSP is by far better. DS only recently got its first couple of awesome games(Metroid, New Super Mario), I pretty much dont care for puzzle oriented stuff and DS seems to have alot of that. And just to let you know, PSP wasnt the first with Dead Pixel problem. DS had the same problem with its first batch. I have a DS with a couple Dead Pixels. Doesnt bother me though. Dead Pixel is a very common problem with LCDs of any type.
Both systems have their merits but I choose DS because I like handheld graphics and gameplay on a handheld system. If I want to play games with immersive 3D graphics, hear high-end sound, or watch movies, I'll play them on my TV or computer. Neither is really better... PSP can't perform DS functions and DS can't perform PSP functions. Neither system is being used to its full potential either.

I prefer the DS to the PSP. For the media functions, I have a PC already which can play DVDs, play music, go online etc. For the games side, I have a PS2 already and don't need to play it on the go. But I can understand that for people that want the PS2 experience on the move a PSP is good. The types of games available on the PSP will ALWAYS be the same types as the games available for the PS2.
With the DS, there is always the possibility that they will utilise the touch-screen, and mic (and maybe more things available, not sure what they are) when creating new games for the system. Looking at the games that are out and the games that are coming out, I like the range and types. They aren't just gimmicks alone; some are really innovative while being fun to play.
I'm not saying the PSP is a bad console. It has great games and graphics and other things. It's just that I have what it offers already, in other systems. What I am really looking for is something "new" in terms of gameplay and that's what the DS delivers, I believe.
I don't have either, but it so happens that it's my bro's b-day today and he wanted one. So I bought him it. I typed this before I went to the shopt to get it, but now I'm finishing the post after I have it. It is still on charge, and I got the New Super Mario Bros. and Trauma Centre: Under the Knife. Let's see if I'm still singing the DS' praises after it's charged and I've played it :D

DS is better IMO, because it is the only source for several nintendo games that you can't play on the psp/other consoles.

Whoops, I forgot to come back here :o Well I love my DS. So far, I have been happy with the games I've played on it. I'm looking forward to FF3, and also plan to import Tao's Adventure: Curse of the Demon Seal. Even my mum and sis like it. They are hooked on the New Super Mario Bros. minigames :D

there is nothing bulky about the psp. if anything, the old ds is bulkier than the psp. the psp has a LCD screen that would cost about 200 if it was on a handheld color tv.
you can look at pictures on the psp.
put movies on your psp.
put music on yuor psp.
nice big screen.
and good graphics.
AND FREE INTERNET!
and if you have the locationFree base for your psp, then it becomes a portable television.
but with the DS you get:
2 screens
picto-chat
backwards compatible with gba games
and...that's it
so have fun writing shapes and words to your friends while i surf the net and watch the matrix in hi-def.

I have a DS I got it because I always have supported Nintendo, my GBA screen was scatch the **** up and was ****ing me off to use, and I likethe touch screen thing witch you also didnn't mention. you just said two screens. I don't have to many games for the DS yet(I think I have 6) but there are a few games coming out for it i want. to name one FF3.

Hmmm....if so many gamers in the world think like such, then how did the PSX outsell the N64? The PSX also had experimental CD technology (as in, it was uncommon for a console to use it back then), just like the DS has experimental mic, touch screen, dual screen, portable rumble pack, and game card technology (experimental being defined on the same note). The N64 had better graphics, less loading time, 4 controller support without extra equipment needed, and games could be saved directly to the cartridge (without an external memory device needed, but there was also controller paks for the games that did not support this method of saving, just like the PSX's memory card). Yet, the PSX had more storage space on the CD, and could play audio CD's, but in general, N64 was higher-powered, much like the PSP. So, how does that work? Or maybe I'm missing something or I'm suffering from extreme retardation......but it was worth a shot.

I'm pretty sure the specs of each console were somewhat equal. The N64 used cartridges, which were harder and more expensive to make and manufacture, especially compared to CDs.
I just can't find a single reason why anyone would want a PSP, apart from large brain tumors or a severe need for speed. Even the DS' bad games are pretty good. I just got Lost Magic for five dollars and it's not bad, considering the wi-fi multiplayer.

Yes, ditto to you two.
The DS is a very new and refreshing change, kinda reminds me of when all those old consoles were just experimenting.
There's so many games I found fun with the DS...Mario, Zelda, Brain Age, Nintendogs and my favorite Tetris, excellent time-killer there...any-ho it's a great system with a cheap sticker price.
Like Kurt said, I don't want to get into the N64 and PS1 debate but when am reminiscing on old systems, the N64 just gets me more excited than the PS1.
Mainly because me, my friends and all my relatives would just go nuts when we heard Zelda and Mario were going in 3D. The PS1 was great but it was something I was unfamilar with.

I for one can't f**king understand why the PSX outsold the N64. The N64 had waaay better games of almost every genre (except RPG's)
Anyway, I vote DS even though I have never played it... Not the PSP either, but the PSP has lots of unneccessary functions which makes it a lot more expensive. I want a system which plays games, anything else is just stupid.
I would definitively get a DS if I could afford it, well I can afford it now but if I buy it I won't be able to afford a Wii. I've always supported Nintendo, always will. They've been there since the beginning, I think they know how to make good systems.

Legend of Dragoon was fun, too.
My predictions for the future: Nintendo, 2nd place; Sony, 3rd place (could fluctuate with clever PS3 marketing); Microsoft, 1st place. They always come out on top for some reason, and Nintendo is coming back up in the marketing department... mainly because of the DS, but we'll see how the Wii and PS3 do, saleswise.

DS Are Consoles PSP are entertainment systems I prefer the DS's Because They Put More quality into the games people only like the psp cause you can play dvds and junk on it but when are you ever gonna get to watch a full movie on the bus? when you could just whip out a ds and play some fun minigames!
BTW MICROSOFT WILL NEVER WIN
BTW MICROSOFT WILL NEVER WINI was inclined to think that when Gates left, but us prophets know it's inevitable. When's the last time Microsoft failed horribly at anything? I mean, they lost 400 million on the Xbox the first few years when it was out, but that's comparable to PS2 sales loss in Europe... believe me, the 360 will outshine the PS3 as much as the PS2 outshined the Xbox, if not four or five times more.
Even if I'm wrong, Microsoft will bounce back. They always do; coming out on top is what they're good at. Stupid Halo series...
