The Higgs Boson, Nicknamed the "God Particle" has nothing at all to do with God, Gods or deities.
It's a term coined because the Higgs Boson differentiates between the W and Z bosons and the Photons. W and Z bosons have mass. Photons (Electromagnetsism) do not have mass. Currently, we are not sure why or what defines that difference, exactly.
This could help explain the origin of Mass.
The Higgs Boson is the only elementary particle in the Standard Model that has not yet been observed.

Yeah it was nicknamed the God Particle after a book of the same title by a physicist named Leon Lederman. I forget the whole title of the book, but it's something about the Universe being the answer.

Relating the origin of Mass to Creation?
ETA: Sorry.
Title was "The God Particle: If the Universe was the answer, what was the question?"

Yeah that was it.
It's one of my more frustrating peeves, actually.
I really dislike it when some people mock or make fun of religion using science.
Although I am sure that was not Ledermans intention...
Still, it's best to avoid using a play on words and mix the two. It causes confusion and can cause people to get upset over something that's easily read the wrong way.
Kind of like Black Hole and the Big Bang (Although in fairness, the term Big Bang was coined by someone who disliked the BB Theory and he intended to mock it.)
Black Holes are not Holes and the Big Bang was not an explosion (As described in Theory).
Yet the names are so very misleading.

Let people believe what they want, this is not the place to argue science V. religion.
