View Full Version : Using Large Avatars

I am aware of the chance that this may not be possible, but if it is, I have a suggestion. Ironic that we are not allowed to permanently delete posts since lowering server usage doesn't seem to be a reason while you are limited to 19.5 KB of avatar file size. But why can't someone enable choosing avatars from external servers? For example, if you upload a 500 KB 50x50 pixel avatar to photobucket.com, CoolROM should let us use the avatar so long as without storing the avatar on the CoolROM server, but a seperate one. I am aware that this may not be possible to enable since when you choose an avatar from another website, it's URL domain changes to CoolROM, which tells me that your avatar must be copied to the CoolROM server. But if there is a way to do this, I think it might be a good idea. If not, would someone tell me why?

Yeah, I made an avatar on photoshop that's 120x120 but its like 35KB so I can't use it, I can compress it smaller but it gets distorted. We should be able to use avatars bigger in size if they are uploaded to photobucket instead of coolrom if possible to do that.

I wish we could do this, I would make an entire movie into my avatar. Heh, a 120x120 replica of Ace Ventura. That would really rock.

Well, I don't think they will do that because then you could, as pizzaman said, put a movie as your avatar. This would cause anyone who is viewing this site to have their pc slow waaaay down. I'm certain the admin doesnt want that. They want the avatars to load fast. So they make you put them on their servers. The only thing you could do is ask them to allow larger file sizes for our avatars. It might not be hard to convince them since only a handful of us use avatars anyways...

I was kidding about that whole movie thing, I don't think there is any website that would upload such a big gif. I also don't think the admin can do it, since you need to have the file on the site to appear on the site. Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm not totally sure.

This is a very good point. I am also a graphics maker and find it very hard to either make or find a avatar that will meet the requirements of the forum.

Hey guys. Due to overwhelming requests, I have increased the file size limit of avatars to 40kB :). I hope this is enough for most of you.
