im just getting it for pokémon

how can i make sure that the time system is still working so i wont miss any of those events

Get VBAAdvance http://vbalink.wz.cz/
The link system is kinda buggy though it works fine with Zelda Minish Cap.
It does keep the real time if you enable "real time" from the emu's settings.
