Hey chaos. The user ranks are currently set up like this:
Newbie - 0 posts
Emulation Wannabe - 15 posts
Emulation Pro - 30 posts
Emulation Guru - 100 posts
CoolROM.com Addict - 500 posts
CoolROM.com Legend - 1000 posts
Do you guys have any better suggestions?

Well, I think maybe a rank that is really really high. Somewhere from 5,000 posts to 10,000 posts, although I have seen forums with users over 64,000 posts. Not that we need to worry about that now. I think the hardest part about this is to make a fitting name for the ranks. There is a list from an older topic, I'll edit it in this post to help users brainstorm.
EDIT: Here is the list, of course it is for suggestions only.
Newbie
Emulation Wannabe
Emulation Enthusiast
Emulation Veteran
Emulation Pro
Emulation Guru
Emulation Sage
Emulation Master
Emulation Icon
Emulation Legend

It was copying and pasting from before. I'll fix it up later if I have the time.... I think we should mix it up a bit more; make some ranks with exciting names. (Not that our currents ranks have anything wrong with them...) I'll have to think about this.......

i reckon that when we get to 20,000 posts we should be able to choose our own ranks

I'd prefer set ranks.....
I like the idea that if someone has a certain amount of posts, they could "rank" themselves. Nothing offensive, though.
Anyway, new ranks were a cool idea, so thanks.

Do you guys have any better suggestions?I already think it is good enough, except for two thoughts I've had:
The CoolROM.com 'prefix' seems a little bit...maybe just CoolROM?
The 'Emulation' part also concerns me, because users like CM aren't into emulation like they are socializing. Not to mention the unhandled spam. By considering the different forums on this website, there could be a better rank name for those. But it's difficult for me to say what.Instead of me giving an opinion on ranking by posts, is it possible for you to enable users to manually rank other users up? For example, an Emulation Wannabe could 'promote' a newbie to an Emulation Wannabe, but to no rank beyond their rank? I think this sounds like a good idea except for one problem. What if an user joins CoolROM just because someone told them to and promised to promote them all the way up to their level for no reason? In other words, what if users here promote for no sufficient reason? So unless there is a resolution to that...
Or maybe it would be nice if there were priveleges for being of certain rank? For example, an Emulation Guru could have less limit on the file size of their avatars or something? Only at least Emulation Wannabes are trused to post new threads for NetPlay challenges in the Contests forum...if that's what that forum's for? I'm sure there are some other ideas.

Or at least try this. If you're going to rank us with emulation-regarding ranks, do you have a way of only our posts in the emulation-related forums (not General Chat, for example)? Or make a factor of our ranking by different posts posted in different forums? Like, an Artist rank for the Graphics forum or something like that. Those are all of my suggestions.

my thoughts/
-Hey! I know bunches about emulation, yet I don't look into those forum more than other users do because it is my preference.
-Yes, the domain name could go if you do not want it. Just 'CoolROM' is nice.
-I like the current post-based ranking up rather than the idea of someone else ranking you up, but that's just me.......
-I do not think it is good to leave the rankings off at 1000 because that seems a little soon to be at the top rank for a forum.
-the 'emulation' ranks may be misleading, but I think they are for fun, as a person probably does not become any better at emulation by posting 100 posts.
-privilages may or may not encourage new people to join. If I was a newbie, I would get all frusterated because everybody would have more powers than me. or, I could want to work for the privilages. It depends on how you look at it.
-why not count posts from general chat? they are post counts, it is not an atrocity if someone chats(not spam).

It seems like many of you don't like the .com in your user titles, so I have removed it. Stay tuned for updates.

Oh hella sweet. The .com was sort of reduntant, and now that it's gone...actually, I don't actually feel any better. Aw well, it was bugging me anyway.

yeah, ive seen forums where posts in general chat didnt count toward the post count and rankings. no more using the SNR thread to boost post count...i like the user promotion idea as well.
