If that laptop has a USB port then anything with a USB plug should work... provided you've the correct operating system.

If you've got XP or Vista then no need to worry, you are GOLDEN.

As for what brands... well most people like logitech for being cheep and still easy to use without being crappy and easy to break. Personally, I like the actual Microsoft, Microsoft controllers because they are really sturdy.

Right now, I've got an "old school" Xbox controller with adapter working, myself.

But I think your 100% best bet would be to either:

A) Get a PS2 controller and adapter.
or
B) Get a 360 controller and adapter.

These controllers are MADE to be used and are generally sturdy, the 360 controller more so. The chance of these failing are rather low, especially if you get new ones.

This is all assuming that keypad = controller and not "numpad" as it does here in the states.

You can get those things online, yes.

Any site in particular... not off the top of my head, no.

Amazon is always a good bet for people in the states, and that is where I'm from, but I'm not sure for someone in India.

My suggestion would be google search and find people who will/do ship to where you are. I'm not sure how that stuff works but I know from my very limited experience from working in a shipping place that not everyone ships everywhere.
