i previously owned this game on my psx and got stuck on the part where you fight the rock W/ the dragon staff. 2 reasons 1. my game froze whenever he did a certain attack (so that was like a ULTIMATE attack even tho it was one of his weaker ones:mad:) 2. that huge rock was HARD. i would like to get the official walkthrough on a pdf if anyone has it
thx,

A moderator will probably move this thread or delete it entirely. I'm not sure walkthrough requests belong here. I'll answer your question, though.

Reliable walkthroughs for The Legend of Dragoon can be found here:

I'd give you a direct link, but I believe your number of posts prevents you from viewing them.

The "huge rock" is known as the Grand Jewel. It's unquestionably the hardest boss in the game. The only real trick to it is stacking the party with high-HP members like Dart, Albert, and Kongol. You can delay the stupid game-freezing attack if all of your party members remain in their humanoid form for the duration of the battle. In other words, no dragoons at all or it's game over.

This also means no magic, or more specifically no healing magic. Stock up on healing items, equip defensive accessories, and guard a lot to get back HP. It's one of those dragged-out survival fights. Equip Bandit Rings on Kongol and Albert if you have them. They're intolerably slow without the accessories.

The Grand Jewel will start throwing the glitched spell when it gets low on health; at this point you can't avoid it. You just have to survive the assault once and retaliate with everything you've got. Either the boss dies immediately or he casts his death spell again and it's game over.

I forget the name of the boss' super attack. It's not intended to cause a freeze/crash, though it happened frequently in earlier releases of the game. If you're playing LoD on an emulator you might as well save mid-fight if things are going well, and then save again when the boss gets low on health.

If the game freezes or his super attack wipes you out, just reload until you get lucky.

Best of luck. It took me almost a week to beat the Grand Jewel. Hopefully you'll do better than I did.
