View Full Version : Add a shoutbox?

Adding a shoutbox would allow multiple users to interact with eachother at the same time, while maintaining a fast connection. I've seen shoutbox on lots of forums, can you do the same here?

admin

Sure, that sounds like a good idea. Let's see how many others want this on the forums first ;).

Though we always have the private messaging system, I don't see why not. Quicker and stuff. That is, if we're talking about an instant messaging system.

I think that would be a really good idea. Espically since you would get a quicker reply if you had a problem with getting something working.

cant hurt to try it

I've always found the shoutboxes to be kinda messy looking and are almost always targeted by adbots.

adbots must die!

anyway, maybe a help shoutbox AND a chat or social shoutbox so as to cater to fun and support at the same time.

so I like the idea....

i still likie the thought of having public groups

Why not i have a shoubox on my site (and it has not been targeted by adbots)it doesnt look messy at all if anything it makes it look profesional i got mine from

I was actually thinking of something more like this...

Shoutboxes take traffic away from the actual forum. I have seen this happen at 3 sites I go too. There were people that would log on solely to chat on the shoutbox and then logoff and hardly post.

While shoutboxes would be a cool way to IM each other without having to give out your private names, sonic is right, they would probably take away from the forums. Why say in a forum what you could put in a shoutbox. Well, I guess we will see how it works out....

yeah, sonic is probably right but i still think it would be a good idea.

What ever happened to the mIRC idea? Wouldn't that be better than a Shoutbox? Plus it wouldn't necessarilly take away from the forums, because you would have to be a member and know about the chatroom in order to find it unless they happen to stumble across it in the forums.

But, in certain situations, I agree with ridley. It gives you the wrong software. Windows itself is another story, but when you have a limited account, it sucks. Windows Media Player, Win-Zip, Microsoft Publisher (for making web pages, anyway)? Bunch of crap compared to other software with the same purpose that's better you could be downloading right now.

99.8265 percent of the HTML in a web page generated by Publisher...is pure crap that does absolutely nothing. And these web pages, with NOTHING typed in them, can be 20 KB in file size.

Anyway, to be on and off topic at the same time, I don't think admin wants to think about adding a shoutbox right now, if you know what I mean.

yeh a shoutbox or a Mirc would be good faster if your looking for a rom in a hurry or need help

Krusha-25

a shoutbox or chatroom would be good ideas
but its up to admin to install 1

Sounds alright. It could be tried it on a temporary standpoint to see how it goes then ask the question 'Should we keep the shoutbox?'. Or go with mIRC the same way. Whatever boats your float.

You guys just don't get it. Obviously, if I want to get this point across, I have to post this fully and publicly. No matter how many users want this idea implemented, admin will never add a shoutbox. Look at the first post admin posted in this thread. Sure sounds sincere, doesn't it? He doesn't even READ this thread anymore, and if he 'forgot', as in, what he does with pretty much all the other suggestions, you know what that means. I don't know why; he just won't honestly tell us when he doesn't like a suggestion, and he likes to get us wasting our time posting in threads about something that he'll never implement. This thread should be closed. May as well close the whole forum if you know what I mean.

Don't get me wrong; he's a nice guy and all, and he knows how to use persuasion i.e. to inspire other beings and for optimism and all that stuff, so I'm not saying he's a bad person. I'm just saying you guys are wasting your time! If it's one thing I learned in persuasion, it's breaking bad news down to someone the best way that I can to prevent disappointment, and either that's just something he doesn't do, or I am seriously missing something here.

well... I dont agree 100% with you, but I do agree most requests are never filled.

But really, what do you guys expect? Admin is not gonna add all our suggestions in every time we make one. But it would be nice to see one or two added.

what I dont understand, is why we never got the one admin suggested himself (see my poll "admin's idea"). I really thought that one would make the cut.

But yes I too have given up on suggestions, they dont do very much good other than to voice your opinion.- But that's always a good thing to be able to do!

I see he uploaded the images I gave him...I can't believe it.

no, sorry but they are all crusty for me.No, like this: Post a new post, look at the option below your posting system for an option named "Post Icons", select the smiley icon as your post icon, and click OK. It will apear next to the title of your post, if it has one. Now, the version of this image that is used as a smiley still has crust, because admin hasn't gotten to uploading the smiley fixes I gave him, just some of the vBulletin images, including post and thread icons.

Example: :) No crust

Dude, you should know already, that's not gonna happen. The GBA and its games are still stocked and sold in stores as I type this very post. All GBA titles are copyright protected. Duh.

Agreed.

Give it another 2 years or so, and then we could *possibly* squeak by with a few.

Emulating games and systems that are still widely on the market isn't a risk worth taking at the time being.

That doesn't have any crust and is round on my computer. I'm in 1600X1200 screen resolution. <.< >.> BTW your nintendo bar looks fine, if not a little short on my screen XD.

Also another thing I just noticed...should all of this belong in another thread o.O. I mean none of this really has to do with adding a shoutbox.........

I could barely see like 4 pixels of crust, but thats just because I already knew where they were, i was just hoping that I couldnt notice them.

and THANK YOU, finally someone else agrees my banner sig isnt too big. Icant help it if you people use a lower resolution than me, personally i use 1280x024 and it isnt enough space. I will add another monitor to my PC soon, 2 of them should help me get my work done.

and yes, this thread got way off topic. It all started when we got to talking about how admin probably isnt reading it anyway. But you are right, shame on us for doing it!
