i was wondering if anybody could tell me if there are psx emulators and games that are downloadable and that actually work without having to have psx games or the console?

Just go to google and type in PSX emulators... or you can go to emulator-zone.com... The only hard part is getting the ISOs, for Ergheiz you ahve to download 10 files and each is 50 mb

To get games to play u must make sure its an imaged form and you must have the bios file scph1001.bin for america and the pal bios is scph7502.bin. Get epsx 1.6 and run iso. Also u will need several plugins. The one that works best though is petes open gl plugin.

Theres a lot of PSX emulators out there, until I get my new desktop set up, can only dream of anything PSX related. Can anyone bash Bleem!? does this program work better than ePSXe emul? the reason I wonder is stability, does one emul support better than another?

yeah but without testing I dont know so I say there is a lot so I dont sound like I have no experiance, he he. but seriously, you can download some cool roms for PSX from your favorite P2P program, try it, you could get lucky. I was, and found chrono cross, 2 discs and it is over 1gig, took 3 days to download! so unless you plan on backing them up to disc dont bother unless you have another chunck of hard drive left free.

I'm just curious about Emulating the PS1 or in other words, why bother?
It seems to me from everything that I've seen and read its a whole lot of bother and a really time consuming bit of work just to get games that you can pick up used for 3 or 4 dollars at a used game store.
Is it just the challenge of tracking something down and getting it? Kind of like a game in itself that you play with the net?

well since i typed this thread awhile back i have learned lots and lots about emulating the psx...ive got 5 games...including my all time favorite final fantasy VIII...i use epsxe 1.6 and it works fine for all my games..including final fantasy nine...even thought lots of people say to never try and play it on 1.6 it works great for me...and also...most people said that pete open gl plugin works best..well...for my pc..petes DX6.0 D3D works best...open gl is very very slow on my pc....but D3D works awesome..very very good framerate and good looking graphics...(and they said S3 graphics were outdated...hah!)....my graphics card might be S3 but it works very very well...i emulate 64 games as well no prob...anyways point is that it took me all of maybe 2 days to get the feel for epsxe...now i know what little tweaks do what and i know what settings are best for which games...not that hard...anyways i will have to say that epsxe is the best one out there

Definately use epsxe. don't bother with Bleem! epsxe 1.7 is a good choice, more stable than 1.6. check out Kameo's emulating the ps thread for in depth explanation.
try www . emuparadise . org/roms/psx for some good classics. ( .rar files in 50mb chunks)
