Hi, I don't know as to whether this belongs in the PC Support section or this one but I'll post it here.

I have been trying to download the Sega CD Road Avenger ROM for the past couple of days but due to a poor internet connection it takes about 7 hours to complete. The only problem is that I get cut off every 2 hour intervals.

I thought I could solve this problem by downloading Download Accelerator Plus so that I could resume any downloads after the cut off point. The only problem now is that none of the ROM's from here seem to want to be downloaded using DAP. Everything else that I've downloaded on other sites automatically gets chosen under DAP except any ROMS on here.

Now I don't know if it's the Javascript source being used as to why it's not giving me a direct link / access to the download but I've tried multiple ways of getting around it by voting and then viewing the source code to which it gives a link which doesn't work.

Anyone have any clues as to where I could find the direct URL or maybe a way of getting ROMs to download with DAP from here ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Give me the download link, and I'll see if I can upload it for you on megaupload, sendspace, or rapidshare. :)

I don't really have a direct link, all it's giving me through IE is this link :

http://dl.coolrom.com/dl.php?218

Now if I put this into Download Accelerator nothing works, also when I type into IE / Firefox it comes up with the webpage for me to download the game (it's like a neverending cycle)

All I'm saying is why the HTML / JavaScript coding that is being used on this site for the downloads, is making me unable to download with DAP?

-------

Right, just fiddled around with DAP to integrate it in with Firefox. DAP now accepts the download link from FF and will allow me to download but what I'm getting is the same link as above (...dl.php?218) instead of the Road Avenger.rar file, which means I'm downloading the page for it to pop up in FF and tell me to download the file (same cycle as above.) It's slowly doing my head in that this is the only site so far which is causing me this problem.

IDK about any of that javascript or HTML stuff very well, so I'll just upload this on a site. I'll try sendspace, or megaupload. If I can compress it to less then 100MB then I'll upload it with rapidshare.

Thanks Pizzaman.. I've spent the last hour and a half downloading a 20MB file (part 1 of 6) of Road Avenger from another ROM site simply due to the fact I will never ever get to be able to download the whole lump from here.

Do you think I should click on the "Contact Us" link and ask the moderator or administrator of how the source code is preventing me from downloading with DAP ?

Try this.
If all slots are full, just wait a couple minutes, or try refreshing the page. Tell me if it works.

That link didn't work, the URL address was "http://try%20this./" which just sends me to a blank browser page :S

Thanks Pizzaman, that new link now works great.

All I got left to do now is wait 13 hours for this ROM file to be downloaded.

NP, have fun. Tell me if it works. I agree with DarthBrandy though, what type of internet do you have that's that slow? I got the slowest DSL there is and I can download it in about half an hour.

I have a dial-up connection and files usually download at 4 kb/s if I'm lucky (and also not doing anything else on the computer) So for the 100MB Road Avenger file it quoted me something like 36 hours in the end.

Also that link you gave has now died... so I'm back to square 1 with the 6 parter.... such is life.

Sorry then. Hope that works for you.

You are a good helper, pizzaman. You admit the things you don't know much about, and your instructions were clear. Were, as in, until I posted here!

A little tricky. But understand that this is not a problem with your PC. The CoolROM server isn't well optimized yet. I think this should go in the ROM Request forum.

Thank you, I was just trying to help out. Maybe if I uploaded it in 20MB split archives, then it would work?

I'm now aware that this isn't a problem with my PC as any other site would allow me to download with DAP, but this site doesn't. I've sent a message to the admin of this site only I haven't had a reply back yet.

It worked well with the 100MB file, it's just it took too long on my computer that the link was no longer active when I tried about a couple of days ago. Thanks for trying to help but please don't put yourself out too much. It's solved for the time being as I took a trip to my parents house and found they had the Sega CD in their attic :)

Oh okay no problem. This site does have some problems with downloading different ROMs though. BTW, what's the best emu for Sega CD?

I'm currently using Gens32 Surreal version 1.29.

It's a 3 in 1 which not only allows you play Genesis roms but Sega CD and Sega 32x roms too.

Oh okay. Sorry if this sounds sort of... well... not-smart, but is Sega Dreamcast the same as Sega CD?

P.S. I've never owned or played a game on a Sega console.

Sadly it isn't. The Sega CD was an add-on device which plugged into and sat underneath the Sega Genesis. It enabled console fans to finally play games on CD and was originally meant to compete with PC engines.

In the United States, the Sega CD was considered a failure due to its high price, low sales, few hardware upgrades, and general confusion with the Sega 32X.

I think the main Sega console list goes like this :

Master System, Genesis, Game Gear (portable console), Sega CD, 32x, Saturn, Dreamcast ... fin
