View Full Version : Emulating the PSX...

To emulate the PSX I'm using ePSXe1.5.2 as ePSXe1.6.0 is having more bugs than version 1.5.2, strangely enough. I suggest U use it as well, if U R having trouble locating ePSXe1.5.2, the BIOS-files or the plug-ins don't hesitate to ask me about it and I will get them to U. To keep it easy while I'm creating this thread I will assume U already have all of that.
I am aware of the fact that some of the plug-ins I'm using R a little outdated, U don't have to point me to this, I already know. U can get the latest plug-ins from here http://ngemu.com/psx .
The reason why I'm using these plug-ins is because not everyone has a high end system, I myself have a AMD Duron 1600MHz, 512MB RAM and a 64MB GFX card and for me it works fine like this, anyone with a PC similar to mine can do this with out problems. If U have a better PC U might get a improved performance but there won't be much differences noticable.
Having said all of that, let's emulate the PSX.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extract ePSXe, the BIOS and the plug-ins.
Copy or move the BIOS-files (all of them) into the BIOS-folder in the ePSXe-folder.
Copy or move the plug-ins (all of them) into the plug-in folder in the ePSXe folder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we R ready to set up ePSXe's configuration.
It's easier to look at my screenies and follow from there I guess.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe and select "config", go to "BIOS", it should automatically open the BIOS-folder inside the ePSXe-folder, if not, set the path. Select the BIOS called "SCPH1001" and click "OK".
The SCPH1001 BIOS works with European, USA and Japanese ISOz, anyone who's trying to tell U it doesn't work like that obviously never tried it, trust me, it will work.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX010101BIOS.jpg
Close ePSXe so it saves the BIOS configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to add a little sound.
Start up ePSXe again, go to "config", select "sound", it should automatically open the plug-in folder inside the ePSXe folder, if not, set up the path. Select the Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41 plug-in, check "Enable XA sound" (this is to make sure U have sound in the FMV's), no further configuration needed, click "OK".
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX02Sound.jpg
Close ePSXe so it saves the sound configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time for some nice graphics now, there's 3 kinds of Games on the PSX, 2D Games, 3D Games and 2D/3D Hybrid Games. We will start off with the 3D Games, this configuration will also work with the 2D/3D Hybrid Games.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe, go to "Config", select "Video", it should automatically open the plug-in folder inside the ePSXe folder, if not, set the path. Select Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75 and click "configure". This plug-in will give U nice and smooth graphics.
Now set it up like it is shown in the following picture, U do not have to check the "Show FPS display on startup", I'm using it to see if my FPS R alright, check it if U R interested in such a thing, if not, don't check.
If Ur desktop resolution isn't 800x600 U select another one, this should be obvious.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX03OpenGL.jpg
Select "OK" and close ePSXe so it saves the video configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start ePSXe again, go to "Options", select "Country" and choose "Autoselect", this way ePSXe automatically detects the region the ISO is for (I believe it does this anyway but let's be sure), U don't have to close ePSXe now in order to make it save this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we've got a BIOS, sound, video, what R we missing here?? Ofcourse, controls.
Go to "Config", select "Game pad" and choose "Pad 1" (set up the 2nd controller as well if U want to play a 2Player Game).
Now configure Ur controls in a way U see fit, don't bother with setting up the two Analog sticks, U really don't have to, set it up according to the following screenie.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX04Control.jpg
Click "oke" once U R done, U don't have to close ePSXe in order to make it save Ur control configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All set, time to play a 3D Game, I assume U already have this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe again, go to "File", select "Run ISO", go to the folder the ISO of the Game U want to play is in, ePSXe can only read .BIN. ISO or .IMG files, any others will not work because they won't be detected.
Don't bother with the .CUE files, U only need them if U want to burn them to CD to play them on a real PSX.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX05Open3DGame.jpg
Wait for ePSXe to load the Game, this won't take long but during the load up it might make Ur screen look a little weird. Nothing to worry about, just wait until it's loaded and...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX06Play3DGame.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX07Play3DGame02.jpg
Voila, U now run a 3D or a 2D/3D Hybrid PSX Game on Ur PC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to run a 2D PSX Game on Ur PC.
Start up ePSXe, go to "Config", select "Video" and choose the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.17 plug-in, configure it according to the following screenie.
If Ur desktop resolution isn't 800x600 U select another one, this should be obvious.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX08PEOpS.jpg
Click "oke" and close ePSXe so it saves Ur video configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to run a 2D PSX Game, I assume U already have this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe again, go to "File", select "Run ISO", go to the folder the ISO of the Game U want to play is in.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX09Open2DGame.jpg
Wait for the Game to load and...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX010Play2DGame.jpg
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/R4YNE/PSX%20Emulation/PSX011Play2DGame02.jpg
Voila, U now run a 2D PSX Game on Ur PC.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all, remember to change the two video plug-ins when U want to play 2D or 3D Games, enjoy :)...

And yea, the Admin. already knows about this thread, he's awaiting it so it's just a matter of time before he comes online to sticky it...

But here I am, with a new desktop, a PSX controller, and chrono cross 2 discs (bin and cue) wondering what to do with them, I have 2 PSX emulators, one is Bleem! and the other might be ePSXe but I am not sure. and do not want to use Bleem! because it is not a full version only it with a crack file and I dont know if there is a better program that will run appropratly I could use some help, I plan on backing chrono cross up to disc, so. Once I have desktop set up....what program is best to play PSX discs and backup files?

Wow that is a great conver I will test it once I have my new P4 this week it comes i think. I will be able to use it as long as my old 512mbRAM works inside the new one, If it does, and i think it will, Ill have P4 2.53hmz with 256mbRAM, if the old ram works, ill have close to 900mb RAM and that should run ePSXe under windows XP until I get a video card.

Kameo how does this emulator play most ISOs, specifically Chrono Cross if at all? Will I need a plug in to make it work? and is chrono cross a hybrid game?
BTW I must have been on glue when I typed that messgae above I mean walkthrough, I am having one of those weeks. -_-''

If EPSXE doesn't work for you, there's another great PSX emu: Its called pSX. Its a new emulator, but already plays most games without problems. Its easy to use and doesn't requires a great computer.
Here's a step-by-step how-to-use:
1. Get the emulator here:
http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/pSX_1_4.rar
2. You'll need the d3dx9_26.dll file. Get it here:
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_26
(Click on "Click here to go to the download of d3dx9_26.dll")
3. Download the PSX bios somewhere. AND JUST LIKE KAMEO SAID, THE SCPH1001.BIN WORKS FOR ANY GAME, NOT JUST US GAMES!
4. Extract the emulator and then extract the .dll file on THE SAME PLACE as the emulator. Then extrack the bios file on the BIOS folder.
5. Open the emulator. You'll see the Bios logo. Go to "FILE", then "CONFIGURATION".
6. Go to the "GRAPHICS" menu and DISABLE "frame skipping".
7. Go to the "MEMORY CARDS" menu and click on the "..." button on the right side of the slot 1 line. Then just type the name you want on the file name command line.
8. Then go to the "CONTROLLERS" menu to set up the controllers.
9. Now just click OK.
10. To start a game from a CD, just go to the "FILE" menu and select "INSERT CD DRIVE" and select your CD drive. Look the pic: my CD drive is F:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/pSX.gif
11. Wait for the game to load, and have fun. Oh, and to make the game run at FULL SCREEN, press ALT + ENTER.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a348/Brasilidade/pSX2.gif
BTW, you can FAST FORWARD the game by holding down the BACKSPACE key. :)

Awsome great I just have one question about the PSX emulator and ePSXe too, I keep getting missing WNASPI32.dll file errors, I think Im missing and the error pops up after Config>Video menu
can anyone tell me where to get these files
Also pSX says when I open it that it cannot load 3D3 and then asks me to save a minidump file somewhere so befor I had no dll file and it would open now it won't even stay open now that I have the file, is it my emeory? I only have 256MB

Okay... I've tried the emulator that Remorse recomended, but I keep getting an error.
---------
bOrken
Unhandled exception. Save a crash dump?
---------
That's the error.
If I click no, then the program crashes.
If I click yes, then it askes me to save a full dump.
Clicking yes makes it start saving, then the program doesn't respond.
If I click no, I have to pick a save location, it saves, then closes.
Why am I having this crappy luck with emulators?

Did you see the error that I said it gives me?
It's in one of my earlier posts.

I had the exact same probelm Enriouki Naomi when setting up ePSXe on my new computer, I adjusted some files added some dlls and added to my vurtual memory capacity and the program runs great on my computer now. Sounds difficult but if you read one of my previous posts in this thread to find the dll that the graphics driver requires to run properly in windows it should be a quik fix. Try adding it to a couple dir's, like your epsxe dir, and any other dirs that you think it may look for it while dunning a graphics driver check prior to running the program itself.
As for the VRAM, you may not need to change that, I did becuase my computer only came with a measly 256MB but runs at 400Mhz and is PC3200 (which is about the fastest type of DDR RAM on the market) so I added triple the VRAM, and increased the minimum of system useage of RAM from the amount on the one channle (256MB) basically added 128MB to make the SPU think that it has another 128MB and a maximum total of 700+ MB that way I can download from coolroms browse online and also run emulators without graphics problems.
Although now that I'm running it my sound is still very very choppy, but that hasnt stoped me from backing up 50+ discs recently but sound on one game, The Missadventures of Tron Bonne, still is problematic. Everytime I start it I try a new setup to get it to run properly, the text has audio sync to progress through the game it has to stay in sync and if there is one block of audio that is missed in any way I can only progress to a curtain point in the first level and then I get a black screen of death which forces me to retstart, its like I said a problem, I decided to move on to a working game for right now and deal with it once I add more ram and a gfx card.
Other than that my new compuetr works great, I played around with it and I got my laptop networked to it as weel as out main hub computer where I get internet access from, and hooked up a shared printer I was givin as a gift and also got a fax machine working with my software modem! I have added 2 40GB external HD's and can run NES SNES Genesis and even Nintendo 64 Emulators directly off either =) woohoo networking is fun!..
My new computer set up looks like this
Compaq 2.53Mhz
40GB Master HD w/ 2 2.5" 40GB external HDs
2 DVD drives one CD-R/DVD combo
Floppy Drive
100MBS internet connection shared over 4 computers (2 desktops 2 laptops)
256MB pc3200 RAM
in the past week I have downloaded almost 30 gigabytes and transfered over 45GBs
works in progress

So I need the scph1001.bin file, do you know where I can get this and I need plugins from ngemu.com but which ones do I need?
Just to tell you I have:
-Intel Celeron CPU 2.6GHz 2589MHz
-Ram Size: 767.48 MB
-Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
-Graphics: Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 256MB

I can't get Chrono Cross to work on ePSXe. I tried your settings and then i tried changing it so it would be a little faster, but either way it goes extremely slowly. I had it show the FPS and somtimes it will be as low as 7.0 and other times it will be as high as 800.0, and either way it runs slowly.

a couple of questions:
1. what code format (game genie, Game Shark, etc.) does epsxe use for cheats?
and
2. IF im playing the game from the actuall CD, is it normal for the game to freeze and load fromt he disk, this happens alot when starting random battle and casting spell on final fantasy tactics.

I'm having problems with the movie scenes in Final Fantasy IX. Everything else is fine, but the movies are playing at like 4x speed. I've tried using ePSXe 1.5.2 and ePSXe 1.6, and i've tried them both with the 2d/3d setup and the 2d setup, and I still get the problem. Anyone know how to fix this?
Mjshl2
12-30-2006, 03:12 PM
I believe that is a sound problem. I had similar problems with the Fear Effect games if I remember right. Try using a different sound plugin. Peops or something.
I'm having a bit of trouble with Metal Gear Solid. I've been playing it on ePSXe and I'm up to Psycho Mantis, but remember that you had to switch the controller slot to beat him? Yeah, can't do that with an emulator.
So does that make beating him near-impossible or is there something you can do? (If you're really lucky you can get a few hits in without switching controller, but he usually teleports away from you.)

Kit, if you're using ePSXe, you can have controls for 2 controllers set up at the same time. Never played the first Metal Gear Solid though, so I don't know if this will help.

Mjshl2, I tried using Peops, but that didn't change anything. I tried fooling around with the configuration for the plugin and it still didn't change anything. I've played final fantasy ix on ePSXe before without any problems, but I have no idea what's different now.

I think the problem was my graphics plugin. I noticed that some of the plugins play the FMVs faster than others, so I tried Pete's D3D Driver 1.76, and it's still going like 1.5X speed but it's better than before.

No. You see, I have tried every emulator and every input plugin and only Spyro 1 works with analog control on ePSXe with internal input plugin. By the way I tried 1.5.2 and still no success... Can anyone please help me get analog control for PSX emulation? I especially want it for Gran Turismo. It makes steering a lot easier. :)

Sadly that wouldn't work, if I remember correctly you had to unplug the controller in slot 1, and with ePSXe you can't do that while a game is running. So I'm stuck there, I'm going to see if I can find a memcard file past that bit, it'll be tough but 4chan could prolly get me one.

hey guys, nice to meet all of you. I got a question.
I got this up and installed and all the plug-ins and BIOS are ready. Now when i go to play a game, it starts up fine. But about a minute in, every single game, My computer starts to do constant freezing:
(it will freeze every minute, then unfreeze for about 1 second)
Could this be a problem with my graphics card? Monitor? Maybe something to do with overheating? Any help will be appreciated, thanks guys.
Oh ya, and SNES emulators and games work fine, and i would say about half of N64 games freeze and half work ok.
Thanks for the emulator support, i cant wait to play some of my fav. RPGs on PSX.

Well, I don't know exactly what the topic is of this unusual topic, but ePSXe is very easy to emulate and use(and has been for ages...). There are even tuts on setting it up around these forums.
Official ePSXe: http://www.epsxe.com/
Official Forum's site, with Plugins listed: http://www.ngemu.com/psx/epsxe.php?action=plugins
Also don't forget to use PEC (PSX Emulation Cheater) to use those favorite GS(GameShark) codes. ;)
PEC Homepage: http://www.emucheater.com/
Driverguide's has various BIOSs, search their database.
Need any more help, and I'm sure one of the old timers here at Coolrom can help. :D

The PSX is not new. It's equally as old as the N64, for that matter. It's actually rather easy to emulate compared to some of the other platforms. Besides, there are platforms that are old as hell and still hardly even emulated.

"Speaking for myself," means that he is speaking for only him. It's as opposed to things such as "I think I speak for everyone here when I say..."

You'll have to google for the scph-1001 bios, that's something we can't tell you how to find, but i think you can find it if you use any search engine.
The video plugins can be obtained fairly easily as well by just copying and pasting the plugins names into your search engine.

ePSXe issues...
I'm running an FF9 ISO (.bin actually) on ePSXe v1.6.0 using the settings and plugins reccomended on the first page of this thread and while it seems to run the actual gameplay and FMVs fine, there seems to be some frame lag whenever I pull up the game's menu or whenever the game enters a random encounter (the battle swirl thing). I've also tried using the automated "fast" settings in ePSXe and that not only doesn't fix the framerate in the menu/battle transition, it runs the game ludicrously fast otherwise.
The system I'm using is considerably newer and faster than many that were mentioned earlier in the thread (not bragging, I promise:) ). Is this a problem that anyone else has had? Is this unique to this version of ePSXe? I'm using Pete's openGL 1.77, should I be using a different graphics plugin? I could play the game like this if nothing can be done, but it's seriously annoying. :mad2: Any insight would be appreciated.

Well first get rid of epsxe 1.60, it's buggy as heck, epsxe 1.70 is supposed to play it perfectly with the right plugins.
Plugin reccomendations:
Video:Pete Opengl v2.9 (needs a good comp)
Pete opengl 177
Peops Soft Driver v118
CD ROM:internal cd rom plugin
Sound:Internal ePSXe plugin(plays great on most games, mix and match plugins for others)
Anyway 1.60 has alot of problems, 1.70 beats the heck out of it.

i downloaded both parts, combined them, but it still doesnt show as a bin or any other type :( please help :_(
If you combined them , normally they will change into ZIP.file /WINRAR archive , afterwards extract it , and there you have it a BIN file .
maybe you did not combine them ? Theres a tools for combining them where you have to get it from the place you download the ISOs .

Now here comes a real problem .
It happens when i play Vandal Hearts 2 ,
When the game is in battle , the frame which the characther is performing an action stopped , and it resumes after the action is finished .
im Using Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75 for video plugin .
I have tried to change the configurations until i gone mad , but it still goes like this .

Well first get rid of epsxe 1.60, it's buggy as heck, epsxe 1.70 is supposed to play it perfectly with the right plugins.
Plugin reccomendations:
Video:Pete Opengl v2.9 (needs a good comp)
Pete opengl 177
Peops Soft Driver v118
CD ROM:internal cd rom plugin
Sound:Internal ePSXe plugin(plays great on most games, mix and match plugins for others)
Anyway 1.60 has alot of problems, 1.70 beats the heck out of it.
Dude, this works so much better. Thanks for the help.

Yes I agree, very well done walkthrought Kameo!
Once I have desktop set up....what program is best to play PSX discs and backup files?
use epsxe, it rocks. i'm using epsxe 1.7 which seems to run chrono cross fine, and the epsxe boys seem to have ironed out the glitches in epsxe 1.61

Okay so I'm using PSX Even, looks like maybe one of the easiest to figure out out of these PSX emulators. But I can't figure out how to run the emulator files which I downloaded. Or am I supposed to put my PS1 disc into my disc drive and run it from there?
The main reason why I'm doing this is because I don't wish to sit in my cold damp basement to play a game that I love, I'd rather play it up here.
If someone could help me out, that'd be great. Thanks. :]

So you intend to play real discs and not disc images?
It should have a boot cd function in the menu then if you have it configured to the CD drive.
Also the easiest emu to use is pSX 1.13 fyi.

I don't know if it has the capability to play with real discs, which is what I'm asking. Because I have no idea what I'm doing. PSX emulators seem to be the most confusing out of the bunch of them. :/
I'm a bit nervous about putting the cd into my pc, y'know so I'd rather get the file off the net. Or just venture down to my basement, I suppose.

Well running files is easy usually, however i know next to little about psx even, i never saw a need to use it, epsxe and psx have far better compatibility and all, anyway even if you can't run iso's directly you can use virtual drives like daemon tools to mount the image like a cd.
Sorry but this is all i know, someone else should be able to help you with psx even.
Also imo saturn emulation is harder and dreamcast even moreso.

Ok, so I've got my ePSXe all set configured, but the game I'm trying to run is Suikoden 2, and it's a .rar file. I've been doing "run ISO" and selecting it, and I get a black screen, what am I doing wrong, and what do I need to do?
P.S. I'm really new to this, so I don't know to much of what I'm doing.
UPDATE: I figured it out, I used WINRAR on the file and made it an .img file and can now run the game.

You definately didnt download the bios from this site cause it doesnt have it! And be sure not to ask for it here, thats a nono! :nono:
But if you unzip them, and then use winrar to unzip the games it will work for the most part...

Hello all.
I'm new to this site, though not new to emu/roms.
I've been having trouble when trying to configure my epsxe160. It keeps saying that there isn't anything in the bios, despite me downloading the SCPH1001 and saving it in the bios folder.
I looked at the first post of this thread, but there wasn't any info or links to info within it. (I'm not sure if I have to "earn" the right to see the link, like I do with images, so please don't flame me for my question.)
Can anybody help me with this issue?
Also, while I'm here, I downloaded suikoden and final fantasy origins; will I be able to play them on the epsxe160, properly, or will I need to download any other plug-ins, drivers etc...?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give. :)

I have a very weird problem with ePSX. After configuring the emu it seems that it runs ok but STUPID FAST ..... so fast that the game is uncontrollable, both with ISO's and original game disks.
Is there something really obvious I am missing out in the setup ?
My system specs are decent enough but nothing ridiculous ......
centrino duo 2.0Ghz
2 Gb ram
512Mb Nvidia 7900gs
200 Gb HDD (if it matters)
Or would I be better off trying a different emu ??
From the graphic plugin enable fps limit and select auto detect.

Ok thx Ryu,
just out of curiosity, which grahpics plugin would you recommend using ?
I get silly speeds with pete's D3D drivers and slightly slower with the first open GL one and then down to about 2-3 times normal speed with the open GL2 driver.
Plus, what other settings would you recommend enabling in the config for drivers ......
BTW ..... the current default framerate limit is set at 200.0 ..... I take it this is a bit high ??

As I said, you have two options: auto detect and input yourself(in which case you should change 200.0 to 60 or 50).
Since PAL games function at 50 fps and NTSC at about 60 fps I think auto-detect is the best option since it should work fine with both, the emu selecting the proper frame rate.
Here is a suggestion of a plugin configuration that gives you good graphics and no speed penalty.

Ive got something on my mind about emulation. Why in the hell can i now not download final VIII disc 2 on the "ROM files" FF8 thread. It says that i now need 15 posts in order to view the forums for psx.
LAME.....and if i spam 9 more messages im gonna get the big boot.
Whos dumb idea was it to do that???
Is it trying to prevent people from downloading straight away??? because if so, it seems pointless in doing so.
I mean what difference is a minor 15 posts gonna make due to somebodys access in downloading a game.
None , thats the answer.

A BIO is sorta like the DNA of the emu (if anyone has a better explanation throw it out there) it is pulled from an actual console and is needed for the emulator to run. The reason the erase.me was there is because it was just a place keeper for where the Bio goes (though I don't know why people don't use bio_here.txt anymore, makes more sense to me) but tbh hunting that crap down is a pain, use winston's; it is already ready to play.

If EPSXE doesn't work for you, there's another great PSX emu: Its called pSX. Its a new emulator, but already plays most games without problems. Its easy to use and doesn't requires a great computer.
So I downloaded this PSX emulator; following Remorse's suggestion. However, I can't seem to play PSX roms on this emulator.. does anyone know why?
Maybe it's because I'm not exactly familiar with the program xD but I tried converting the .bin file to .cdz and I still have no idea how to run the Castlevania PSX game I downloaded :skep:

I'm pretty new to all of this and I'm trying to figure it out.... I've found a ton of different plugin and bios files and I'm so confused on what files I should use. Any help??
After that I should be okay, the walkthrough looks easy to follow. Thanks!!:D

it depends what game you want to play... for video Peops works well for 2D games, and Pete's plugins work well for 3D games. For sound epsxe spu core and Eternal work well.
Those are guidelilnes for most computers... it all depends on your pc and video card. Start there, then as you get used to it you can try different plugins and change the settings to get more out of it. If ou have a somewhat decent pc, you can get better results with epsxe than with the real console.

use Alcohol 120% or CloneCD to create an image of the disc.
And you should upgrade to ePSXe 1.7.0.

Ive donloaded the ePSXe emulator(its the 1.7.0 version) . Ive got the sound configuration done and the bio and cd rom done aswell, but when i do a video config and do the drop down button it is blank.
I have downloaded all the graphic plugins and moved them to the plugin folder. when i try to start up a game such as bust a groove ;). It says video not configured go and choose a plugin but then i go there and is it is still blank.
Any help will be appreciated thanks :p

If it's blank, then it means the video plugins are not in the proper folder or it's the wrong files... anyways there's something wrong there for sure.
Try this one, it has everything already set up:

What did you move and where? That's the problem; the file I sent you is ready to go... you just open epsxe.exe without moving anything.

Is there a way to play FFVIII properly on ePSXe1.7.0? It's only worked with PSXeven for me, but I've heard ePSXe1.7.0 is better with a slightly better compatibility list. Might you know how to fix my problem, N1ght?
Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the problem I was having with FFVIII on ePSXe was during battles my menus wouldn't come up.

I'm running Arc the Lad 2 on epsxe 1.70. The sound was working perfectly fine before.
I copied all my save files eventually onto 1.52 because I wanted to run Arc 1 on high speed (1500%+ ftw), beat it then use the save conversion feature into Arc 2 to get the extras. I started the new game in Arc 2 with the conversion and got back to the point where I was before on high speed. Then I copied those saves back onto 1.70.
I put the video and audio settings exactly to where they were when I began playing in the first place a few days ago. Pete's OpenGL2.9 driver on the "nice" setting for video. Eternal SPU 1.41 on the default settings for audio. It should sound perfect and dandy just like before, but no.
The sound is really low quality, doesn't work for any longer than 10-20 seconds and then it stops. Then a few seconds later some really scrambled sounding crap starts happening, which plays for a few seconds even after I close the emulator for some reason.
Help?
EDIT: Okay, nevermind. I was loading from a savestate because I hadn't actually saved my game for awhile. I saved the game and loaded from that instead, and now it works. I think something glitched up in my savestate file when I copied it beck over to 1.70.
EDIT 2: But now the game is running a little slow, which is ridiculous since my computer was able to crank it to 1500% in 1.52 earlier.
EDIT 3: Okay, I fixed it. I switched to another plugin, altered some of the settings including "use fps limit", which I've set to 200 and also put the fps display on. This got my game back up to 60fps on a normal setting, but now I can also Switch to 200fps and the fastest setting which cranks me up to about 1100fps in 1.70. I was not able to crank the speed up at all in 1.70 before, so it's weird that it works now. I have no need for 1.52 now so I deleted that.
4: still slows down to below 60 during use of spells or anything "intensive" though. WTF. Im using petes dx6 d3d 1.77. I really need help, I had absolute no problems like this before.

any recomendations for an up to date website with good plugins. I'm having trouble running ffXI. I'm using Pete's D3D Driver 1.76, Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41, and Mooby2 cd disk image driver 2.8. It either runs to fast or to slow.

In video config set the Frame rate limit to 60, and check the box next to Set limit.
