simpson or family guy i want to here what people like better presonaly i lean to family guy but i watch both

Earlier Simpsons episodes were much cleverer and less repetitive than they are today. So I'll have to go with them.

I don't like Family Guy for the simple reason that the whole series relies way too heavily on celebrity jokes, which is probably a product of lazy writers. The jokes are funny, but the writers' blatant uncreativity annoys me. The Simpsons has detereorated heavily in the last decade, but their seasons 3(?) through 6 (?) were excellent, nothing like the terrible episodes today.




Shouldn't this go in the general Chat forum? How are either of these series anime or manga?

Season 5-7 Simpsons is comedy gold - funny every time I watch 'em. Family guy is pretty hilarious, but lots of the jokes rely on surprise and once you've watched 'em a few times they lose the funny.

The simpsons is funny in a medium sort of way through the whole episode. While Family Guy might not have as many 'good' jokes, the ones that are funny will make me laugh for up to minutes sometimes.

Noooo, Family Guy is winning... I've never laughed at that show, it's just stupid.
Simpsons on the other hand, is brilliant. Several episodes made me laugh out loud, I almost never laugh out loud at something I see on TV. Even the newer episodes are good, at least better than that horrible Family Guy.
And Simpsons still has the best guests (some guys from The Who, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Johnny Cash)

Simpsons is a classic, in 50 years young americans will read about Simpsons in school.

Also, in the beginning of each Family Guy episode, they sing "where are those good old fashioned values, on which we used to rely?"
Isn't this kinda contradictory, when many of the jokes in Family Guy are about something totally different from those good old fashioned values, and many of the jokes are about sexuality, sex or just bizarre and perverted.
Of course, some of the jokes are about incredibly stupid characters, kinda like good ol' Simpsons.

Oh right, I forgot, some of you guys are American! Here in Europe, at least in Sweden, almost everybody loves Simpsons because it somewhat portraits the American family, while Family Guy doesn't because it's too unrealistic.

mm, I always had a feeling Simpsons gives a pretty accurate picture of the average American family. Family Guy doesn't, because of totally unrealistic and bizarre characters like a baby trying to murder it's mother and a talking dog.
Simpsons is real, the characters are real, just the kind of guys you could meet in real life (though I have yet to come upon a Homer Simpson)
Marge is just like my mom, I'm a mix between Bart and Lisa, One of my friends is the Comic-Book Guy, and my aunt is the crazy lady who throws cats at people.
I could go on all day, making comparisions to people I know, and Simpsons also gives a pretty accurate and humorous picture of how america differs from the rest of the world. I'm certain almost all europees love it.

Oh, my brother went to Australia on vacation once. He said people were crazy about Simpsons and almost everytime he went to a bar, people sat and watched the Simpsons.

I just don't see that. The Simpsons is still going strong 16 years into it, Family Guy already got cancelled once. Although I agree the Simpsons last few seasons have been rather lacking in orginality or comedy, it still has a very huge fanbase that will continue to watch. I will say Family Guy has gained a very dedicated fanbase, but it still has a way to go before rivaling The Simpsons in size. And as I mentioned before The Simpsons has been kinda lacking lately, but Family Guy seems to be lacking more so with it's return season. The cutaway jokes are getting old and getting played to death thanks to Adult Swim, and alot of people are actually getting tired of it. South Park noted how formulamatic Family Guy is and alot of people are starting to catch it.(Although it should be noted SP is just as formulamatic with the plots being about a current event, the stupid towns people blowing things out of proportion, the kids fixing the problem, and everyone learns the wrong lesson in the end.)

The problem with Family Guy is all the cutaway jokes are mostly refrences to American TV and celebrities. You either get em or you don't. Alot of people overseas don't get em simply because they havn't seen the shear volume of American TV that Family Guy refrences. A buddy of mine who lives in Madrid visted last year and I showed him the Family Guy DVDs and he really didn't get about 70% of the jokes, not because he's stupid, but simply he hasn't seen as much American TV as we have. The Simpsons, on the other hand is over 16 years old, and although they portray an American family, the lessons and jokes are not as specific to America, or at the very least, they're easily translated without losing much meaning.

So I guess you could say my vote went to The Simpsons.:D

Cool icon Karl but dont think you've got a valid point about Family Guy. Personal choice aside, the writers of Family Guy cant be accused of 'blatant uncreativity'. The frequency of freakishly bizarre tangents that the storylines go off on and the use of shock-humour on the DVD releases can testify to that. Granted some of the more obscure referencial humour bounces clear over my Scottish head but that applies to jokes in the Simpsons too.

The Simpsons have only recently started to come back into its own after several seasons of mediocre episodes that mirror earlier plots. Homer is still the man tho as any references to Peter being anyone's mentor sounds dodgy!

Also, 'witch' person started the trend of poor spelling? I'm a child of the eighties/nineties boom in video-games and cartoons but I managed basic English in between times!
