This is the Show Down,
"Old Skool Games" (ATARI/NES/SNES/GENSIS/TG16,ect, ect,)
Also - Old PC Games (Pre286/AppleII/DOS/Win3.1,ect)
Also - Old Hanheld (Black&White Games/Gameboy[&GBcolor]/GameGear/Lynx/NeoGeoPocket,ect)
VERSUS
"New Skool GAmes" (PS1/N64/PS2/GCUBE/XBOX)
Also - Newer PC Games (Win95&Up/32Bit/Pretty much anything after MYST came out- That time Era to now)
Also - Newer Hanhelds (Gameboy Advance/PSP/DS/MobileGames)
If you had to live without one of the two, which one is more important to you?
Which is the One You Can't Live Without?
Darth, if I didn't know better I'd say you were coming on to me. Your tastes are nearly (nearly, not flawlessly) identical to mine in many respects.
I definately prefer old-skool, but there are some recent fighting games I can't live without.
Don't forget to add Modern PC, Old Skool PC, and the handheld generation (old skool and new skool in the handheld department are radically different).

And I say OLDSKOOL all the way, I love my new systems, but when it boils down to it, I count go without my oldskool NES.
I think Kameo said it best with his old Signature,
"what a horrible night to have a curse..."

That is just wierd dude  (DarthBrady takes a step away)
But serioslty I know there is more of us Old Skool Gamers than New, I just want to see what the majority of this site's community preffer.
I get what some of you are saying, about always hearing "N64 this, N64 that,.." and thats OK;) but I know when I get off the board 9 out of 10 times I would play Dragon Warrior on NES Emu(yeah, I know I name dropped) before I would Play something on N64 Emu.
And The average age for a gamer is in his or her 30's nowadays, so it just made me wonder.....

30s? really? Well, I like newer games and older games. It really depends on the game. I'd rather play wind waker or majora's mask ove rthe original LOZ, but I'd ratehr play SMB3 over Starfox Adventures or Burnout.

If sarcasm and halfhearted irony are wierd, then I'm a total douchebag named Kurt. BTW, it was a compliment.
And I'd rather play a good NES game anyday than any N64 game other than Paper Mario. ANY DAY.
Still, though. I love games like the Street Fighter series and the MvsC games absolutely to death, so I might actually prefer New Skool. Nah.

Old games are fun, but new games are better. I mean at least in quality.

Actually, that was my fault for not suspecting that :mad2:
Anyway, I could live without new-school games if old-skool inclues Street Fighter 2, Half-Life (with online play and mods) and Doom 1-2 with mods.

New school, "(PS1/N64/PS2/GCUBE/XBOX)". My all-time favorite games are on these systems..."Final Fantasy VII and up", "Super Mario 64", "Zelda:OOT","Super Smash Bros."...etc.
It depends on what games you like really...

I see, well I updated the first post a little, to be more specific, as some of you suggested. I didn't go too detailed, but I think it draws the line pretty clearly.
As for consoles, The line is drawn between oldskool and next gen, With the introduction of Consoles with The first support for true 3D engines. Such as the Sega Saturn(released just before PS1, and of course playstation
But as for some of the titles you mentioned,
- Doom 1 and 2 will run on a PC built in the 80's, That makes it OldSkool easy
- Anybody thats oldskool grew up in arcades playin' Street Fighter II, it Oldskool.
-but Half-life is a true 3d engine game, built for next-gen PC's and Consoles, so its easily new-skool.
ah ha- the plot thickens.....

No, that's completely wrong. I looked up a few release dates, and here's what I got.
Street Fighter 2 - 1991 (Definately old school.)
Doom - 1996
Half-Life - Announced 1996, released 1998 due to "unforseen delays"
Quake - 1997
I would probably consider all those old-skool. Not REALLY old-skool, since most people define "old-skool" as console games made in the 80s through the early 90's, but old enough that some people have not heard of them.

Right, it was originally designed on the "quake" engine. But was delayed so It could be improved upon to be a stronger engine than the original quake engine.
My point is, that the Old Skool/Nextgen Line is drawn at the release of the Sega Saturn, and Sony Playstation; the first two major systems that offered 3D engine support to a new level above all previous systems, thus making them the first true "NextGen" Consoles.
Half-Life, although created in OldSkool Days, is originally released for DREAMCAST and PS2, As well as Mac/PC.; and was unsupported on older consoles and Pre-Pentium PCs. This easily sets it in the NextGen Category.
Look Half-Life is an awesome Game, we both know it. And too much of a high powered awsome game to be in the Oldskool Category.
Know whuta mean, Vern?
Okay, now you're just trying to confuse me.

First of all, no. It may have been intended for later console releases, but in the video game industry, that's a pretty common thing. It was certainly out-of-date in most gamer's minds when it was re-released for the newer consoles, even if the graphics had been updated. Many older PC games had later, slightly modified console ports, anyway.
It may have not been Old School, but it's certainly not in the NextGen category (which has been rapidly modified with the release of the new next-gen systems). I'd say it was part of the transition. I don't care at all, though; it's still one of the best PC games of all time.
Here is when I leave this topic until something interesting happens.

Hey if ya disagree, ya disagree. No problem here. Thats cool.
All I'm saying is, if it is only playable on next-gen consoles and PCs, than how can it be oldschool?
How can you say this is not Next-Gen, or Not on a full 3D engine(unsupported by oldskool)?
Saturn or PS1 couldn't even render polygons or texture like that!

That all I meant to say i guess.
You cant say that that is confusing
