View Full Version : Why Did You Join CoolROM?

This kind of topic does seem a little 'strange' to participate in, but it is a general topic. I thought I should try it, see if anyone has an answer they'd like to share. Also, what are things that have changed about you, your life, your emulation, whatever, that wouldn't have changed if you had never joined CoolROM?
For the most part, I joined so I could help people. I joined to learn more about Nintendo 64 emulation, help other people with their issues (as in emulation, not personal), socialize a little bit, and share my knowledge on computers a little.
If it wasn't for CoolROM, I would never have learned about NetPlay, legal issues and information about ROMs, GameShark cheats, Nintendo 64 emulator configuration, the 7-Zip archiver to get you any N64 ROM, Xbox emulation facts and how to get Xbox ROMs, and the Corn N64 emulator. That's all I can think about now; there may be more. Besides the obvious stuff like meeting users, of course.

On March 5, I was just hangin' around and a decided to visit CoolROM again. I saw that admin had put up a forum the day before, and I saw it as an opportunity to join a possibly major forum while it was still young. So, I signed up and started posting. Later that month, I became a General Chat moderator because I felt like I could be successful there. I started many social threads there, most of which were pretty successful. Now, I usually rest on my laurels and let other users make most of the threads. Of course, I moderate when needed.
CoolROM has relieved some of my miserable boredom on days with nothing to do. I found out how to use new emulators for various systems with the help of the users here. However, sometimes CoolROM pulled me away from my schoolwork, so I had to keep tabs on that. I met some unique people here. I guess I have grown in maturity since the day I joined. I have definitely improved at forum posting and forum moderation. Am I a figurehead here? Well, if I am, then throw that in, too. I mostly deal with social stuff around here (which is not simple; you must take into account fairness and the human psyche, among other things), but sometimes I moonlight on emulation support, which is Iconoclast's, Mjshl2's, and other users' main thing.
I guess that is enough to say.

I added a poll. You'll see how hard I worked to muster those 10 options! I guess I had to think of something. The least you users could do is vote if you have nothing specific to post as to why you joined.

I guess that is enough to say.A lot of that second paragraph is true about me, also.
OMG, this has to be the only post you've made that has 0 grammar mistakes! Didn't know you had it in you?
Yes, I am hardly helpful with any console emulation except Nintendo 64, which I've REALLY studied some advanced **** about for configuration. Mjshl2 seems to be the emulation expert in general for most consoles. Remorse is, or was, a PC expert, which would be called PC emulation if you threw out the official definition of emulation leading to how you can't quite emulate the PC using your PC.
I don't want to take time writing a long post, so I checked poll options 2 + 4, which are the main reasons I joined. I hope I i can finally find a Kaillera partner, because that's what I came here for first and foremost.

I do hope you are kidding when you said that that was the first post of mine devoid of grammar mistakes! That's not true. I have, however, noticed that you have been using "your" when you should be using "you're" and recently, you typed the nonexistent word, "funner."

I wanted to help others with PC-related issues (can include emulation).
You voted for that option? I know you like to help other people with emulation and stuff, but is that WHY YOU JOINED CoolROM.com?

is there any reason the polls out of 220%?

is there any reason the polls out of 220%?Uh, I don't know what that is, either. It looks like VBulletin takes the number of times the option was voted for, divides it by five, and you have the given percentage. I just realized that; I don't know why it does that.
Iconoclast
07-01-2006, 05:52 PM
Because the number of people who voted so far is 5.

Look at it this way: the percentage is how many people who voted on the poll voted for that option. It happens on multiple choice polls.

Iconoclast

oh so you mean if some one voted for more than one...No. The percentage of a voted option is a fraction expressed as a percentage, the fraction being how many people voted for the option over how many total people voted.

aaah..could you dumb that down for me i'm not fully geting itSo far, two people voted for that first option. There are five voters who voted, for any option, in this poll. So five people participated in this poll, two people voted for that first option (can't remember what it was called). Two out of five, two-fifths, is 40 percent. Does that make sense? That's why it has 40 percent, and the other poll options make everything add up to 220 percent. The sum of the percentages is not supposed to be 100, always.

Aw, come on, people! If you're going to vote for that insanity option, at least vote for the actual reason you joined, too. That insanity vote option is really people who just went to CoolROM.com all wide-eyed, didn't know what they were doing, and just registered at random and stuff. It's cute, but not that cute to give a false vote.
