I have nothing against selling your game console, romsRgood, but just remember, selling ROMs or illegal copies of games is illegal. (I am sure you can arrange something privately). Speaking of buy/sell, what do you guys think about a separate forum for buying/selling/trading stuff?:D

I personally just want to say, this is a sounds like a Great Idea.
I use other forums, similar to this one in respects; that have done this, just for that reason.
Needless to say, I'm all for it. But I think its a good idea to set up some rules first, so its not abused.
Just think of it, a CoolRom Trading Post(or whatever its called;) )
Who's for it? Ideas?

Who's for it? Ideas? In my experience, things like these, when set up on a forum that's not really ready for them, can be pretty disasterous. There are other sites specifically for this, and I'm not sure we need a section devoted entirely to buying and selling. Besides, we don't get all that many people who want to buy or sell material. Maybe we could make a subdivision in one of the forums for it, though. Maybe General Gaming. Still, though, we should be careful about potential disasters things like this can bring.

DarthBrady i think you should add a poll

Or better yet, we could make a buying/selling thread in each individual forum. Like the Console Gaming/Emulation would have a thread for buying and selling consoles, etc.

I think that it's a good idea. Like game systems and such. I will probably not be able to buy them, but it's a good idea.

Clarification on my poll vote: I don't think we should make a whole FORUM for it, but we should definitely make individual threads for it in each forum, or anything else on a smaller scale.

Uhh... *runs*

Well I think that would be a waste. Admin can always add a subforum in the one of the forums though.

Well I think that would be a waste. Admin can always add a subforum in the one of the forums though. Now how would that be a waste? Trying this immediately on a full scale would be a complete waste of time and space. Subforums are alright, but we should start out smaller. After all, how many of you are here to buy and sell stuff?

Yeah I see, I feel it would be more organized as a seperate forum, with its own threads, and organization is important is something like this.;)

Not much, but threads get lost. I guess sticking it would be okay, but then it would all be stuck together. With a subforum, you can make individual requests and offers in individual threads.

Darn! I fouled my own poll, now I cant vote. Non-Mod Suffrage, self-denied! :mad2:

My Vote Then:

YES

I had no problems voting either:).

I believe this is a good idea and worth a try, as long as U guys will NOT use it for chatting as U do in every other forum. I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but if it's going to be for trading then let it be for trading only. If U R not part of a trade, don't post there. If U have nothing to trade U have no business there, I guess that should be obvious.

I also think Admin. should create a whole new forum fo it, not just a sub-forum.

Kurt

I'm okay with it getting it's own forum, but it would probably be pretty unused compared to threads. Subforums sound better, though.

Well, I voted the ever-popular 'Give it a Try...'
and IDk why the poll is only letting moderators vote.

I agree with that guy^

It should be business-only.

We should get a moderator for it. Anyone? (IDk if someone mentioned this already...)

I can't say. I'd rather not vote. I mean, how is it legal to sell your console to someone? It's like, you paid for the console, you played games on it, you sell it to someone for the same amount of money needed to buy it, and it's almost as if you didn't have to pay to get it. How is that legal?

You don't sell it for the same price lol. If it's used the price goes down. It's like when you buy a new car. If you drive it off the parking lot it already lost 25% of it's value. get it?

CM, there shouldn't be a mod for that forum. It would be way too small for anyone to actually moderate anything.

I agree with Pizzaman, it would be too small to moderate. Just don't post there if U R not in a trade, how hard can it be??

Personally, I think a buying/trading/selling or whatever forum would be just as good as a NetPlay forum. They both seem a little small, somewhat.

What happens when some one gets ripped off?
For example.......

Gamer A logs on and sees that gamer B has posted that he has a NES and 50 games for sale for $50.00. They PM each other and its decided that gamer A will send gamer B a money order for $50.00 plus shipping and then gamer B will send the system and games as soon as he gets it. Gamer a sends the money order and happily waits for his system and games to arrive. And waits. And waits. And waits. And "WTH? He never sent it!
How do you hold the sellers accountable and make sure that product is delivered for money sent? And it could easily go the other way too.
Unless of course you put a HUGE disclaimer up in the threads or forum that says Buyers and sellers beware!

E Bay makes you pay a fee and the monetary transactions are done over a secure server. I--Think---they use Pay Pal. The point being, if you put something up for bid they KNOW who you are and you are held acountable if you don't ship the product or if its not what you claimed or in the condition you claimed it is.

chaos master
07-13-2006, 06:19 PM
Well, to fix that, they could both send the things to CoolROM. Likely the forum wouldn't have too many transactions, so admin might charge a nominal fee for being a middleman and complete the deal only if both parties have fufilled their end of the deal. If not, he would send the things back to who sent them. Or not, if admin is too busy to ship things. And it would be terrible if money was lost in the mail, but then he could use checks. Just a thought.
