View Full Version : Marvel vs Capcom 2
Talk about this game here. I'll post some of my favorite teams in a minute.
My favorite team, as of now (I play at the San Luis arcades, mostly) against most human players is Sentinel, Guile or Charlie, and Captain Commando(AA), Cyclops, or Iceman. Second would probably be Omega Red or Cyclops, Storm, and Ryu, Silver Samurai or Ken. I'm trying out Blackheart and Zangief, because they're fun characters and Zangief's grabs are the most damaging moves in the game along with Blackheart's supers, and maybe Silver Samurai's charge moves, whom I also love to play as.
I'm also working with Magneto (I practice at home on my Dreamcast) because he has super high priority against everyone but CapCommando, and his punch and kick supers easily kick the crap out of Sentinel, the most used player. I just don't like his on the ground Heavy Punch. It's too slow, and most of Captain Commando's moves easily beat it in terms of priority. He's a solid character though, and I"m getting really good with him.

I enjoy Hayato, Tron Bonnie, and Venom. :-D
I'm not a very good player but I can hold my own.
Next is Jin, Cable, and Ironman.
Then Cable, Ironman, and Cyclops...(Beam spamming!)

Then Cable, Ironman, and Cyclops...(Beam spamming!)Good teams. I can't stand Cable, though, because most Cable players spam airbeams and harpoons whenever you try to superjump him. Another team I'm practicing is Ironman, War Machine, and Servbot or Chun Li. Servbot has some high priority moves, but with him you're going to be building a lot of meter and turtling, especially against top tiers like Storm. People don't expect him though, so that's an automatic advantage.
Tron is fun to play as, too. AA your opponent with Captain Commando (or another good AAer), and right as they're falling, use Tron's HK drill move or just switch to Venom and go all air HK on their ***.

I never got used to using serverbot. His size always freaked me out.
Like the dude is about the size of hulk's foot.
I also like to throw Jill, Morrian, and Megaman around but I can play ok with just about anyone. :-)

Servbot's size is really fun to use when you're using big characters and you feel like switching a lot. His assists are veriable crap, though. Too bad.
Sorry if I'm freaking you out with my severe fanatacism, too. I just really like this game and have been playing it virtually forever.

But you know you can't resist Jill yelling out every freakin' time "I'm the member of the S.T.A.R.S.!1!!!!111"

Strider is hard character to use.. =(Yeah... no more MVSC games for us fighting game fans. And worse yet, they're trying to make another SNK vs Capcom game! My eyes burn.
Strider is kind of fun to use, especially since he has a bunch of homing and multihit attacks. His combos are annoying, though.

Strider is my fav character to use, Jill coming in second. As for another Snk VS Capcom, that sounds good to me.Ehh, I don't see where you're coming from. The first one was decent, but not nearly as good as the rest of the Vs Capcom or SF games. The second one was built using the same somewhat-crappy fighting engine and all the characters were sprites ripped off from other SNK or Capcom games, which really irks me. I mean, they went through all the work of making a sequel and were too lazy to redraw new characters? Laaame.

So what, it was still fun to play. Or atleast I thought so. Its hard for me not to like a Capcom fighting game. I like pretty much all of them. Including ones most people hate like: Capcom Fighting Evolution and Street Fighter Ex 3.

Including ones most people hate like: Capcom Fighting Evolution and Street Fighter Ex 3.Well, they were decent games, but they had nothing on Street Fighter 3: IIIrd Strike and Marvel vs Capcom 1+2. I'm kind of a SF fanboy, but even I didn't like SNK vs Capcom one or two. EX 3 is playable, but I don't like it that much.

What Capcom really needs to do is to make a SF 4 already.
They seem to have time to push out remakes left to right but are neglecting what made them huge in the first play.
Also Kurt, really I know guys who are just as obsessed over MVC and they can go on forever and ever and ever.

Well, that only really applies to their fighting games.
They seem to be able to crank out Megaman Battle Network games at the drop of a hat. Yet, the only thing they can do with SF is come up with anniversy collection or ports to the psp. I'm not saying those two are bad just they need to focus more on bring back the SF franchise.

You're right; they're sifting out games like nobody's buisness, but no good fighting games. I'd even settle for a new Darkstalkers game or something.

The Team I use in MvC2 the most usually consist of magneto, guile, and b.b.hoodWhy Guile instead of Charlie? Just curious. The only reason I could think of is he has an easier punch super to combo off of and higher HP priority, but does somewhat less damage with his blade-fury-ish super. Also, Charlie's kicks do way more damage.

And you're talking about magneto's HK LP HP juggle?
Panda

No althought that is a good juggler, theres one if you use magnetos levitation after you use his magnetic disruptor, you'll be able to land five hits before your levi ends, after that if you bring in guile as soon as you finish the five hits you can perform guiles sweep attack and go straight into his launcher, after the the opponent is launched in the air, you can bring in magneto and go into another air juggle.

I've only been playing Mags for like two weeks or so, so I only know his simplest combos and juggles.
On another note, have you ever tried Mag's force field when your opponent's doing a super? I keep trying it but I either can't get the timing right or it doesn't work.

It's a terrible move when you're fighting pixies like Wolverine, BB Hood, Gambit, Silver Samurai, etc. but it can wrack the nerves of a Sentinel or Juggernaut player pretty badly if you time it right.

Guess I'll have to practice a little more with it then try and get its timming rightWell, don't try too hard, because he has a lot of far better moves and combos. I've been playing him for less than a month and I've probably got 10% of his moveset down. Instead of force fielding, wait until after they miss particularly badly with a HP or a long move with bad cooldown, then do that Magnetic Grab or whatever it's called and use DHP immediately followed by the punch super, or just string off into a combo. It's better to dodge then to try to use Force Field, because the timing on it is so hard to pull off.

I know they're out there, but for some reason nobody playes her in the arcades or tournies, even. Most people who like Cammy usually substitude Ken or Rouge instead for some reason.
I just started Ken seriously about a month ago, and he is the best anti-turtler (and excellent AA, too) I have yet to use, along with Storm. His launcher is just so easy to combo into, even after his HK overhead, which is more than you can say for most players. I can't get the timing of his AA kick super, though.

Nah, haven't seen it. Is it on Youtube or GodWeapon? I have, however, seen a vid of a Hugo player parrying every single one of a Remy's projectiles (in a minor tournament somewhere in Korea), along with every single one of his other moves. Remy was spamming Sonic Booms and proj supers for a long time, and Hugo parried every single one of them and baisically 3-hitted the dude with a grab combo when there was 3 seconds left on the timer. It was on a real arcade machine, too, not one of those fake things that show up everywhere.

Yea they do spend alot of time on that but for its hectic fighting i can suffer through a few chat scenes.Well, the chat and dialouge don't bug me as much as, say, the actual KOF games. What DOES bug me is that the game's tiers are so insanely different. In Gulity Gear XX#Reload, the game I occasionally play and my favorite of the series, I play as Venom, Eddie and Slayer a lot. Slayer and Eddie are the two highest-tier characters in the game, and I have not lost three matches yet with either of them. Venom, however, is very fun to use, but his attacks to crap damage, his priority is low, his health seems to be abnormally low, and he's generally a low-tier character. I can still win occasionally with him, but it's not really that much fun playing a game with rigid tiers.
MVSC2, however, has very loose tiers. For example, the highest tier chars are Storm, Sent, CapCom, Magneto, and Cable. I have seen a guy who plays with Cyclops, Charlie, and Silver Samurai absolutely annhialate his way through a tournament full of people using the god tiers.
That's the best explanation why I like this game, anyway. That and the character selection. There's just so many!

I was more or less just referring to Amigo and Sonson. I can combo from SS's lightning super or his shuriken super into either Magneto's Magnetic Storm, either of Storm's supers, Sentinel's kick super... actually, you can combo it into pretty much any fast range super. My personal favorite is going from it (with level 3 meter) to Ken's forgot-what-it's-called-kick-super that goes only above his head and then to Charlie's Sonic Boom super, so I can use Ace Throw and start a combo.

Depending on my mood and the motions my hands feel like playing:
Ryu, Ken, Akuma. Especially against Sentinal, who I hate. Ken's dragon punch assist knocks him out of the air, and then I go infinite on his big target @$$. Sure, he just needs to land a few hits to kill my characters. But I just need to land one! Against Magneto, good timing with Akuma's hurricane kick assist sets up brutal combos, especially Ken's glitched air hurricane kick. Against Cable, Ken's dragonpunch assist and he and Akuma's rushing dragonpunch super.
Silver Samurai, Blackheart, Doom. Silver Samurai dishes out massive damage on point with Doom rocks assist pinning people down and Blackheart taking anyone out of the sky, especially that annoying Storm. Silver Samurai is too slow against some of the better players, but he murders weak and medium strength players. Doom rocks also help build up the massive amounts of super meter that Samurai consumes.
Strider, Doom, Blackheart. Of course. Strider/Doom Trap, Doom/Blackheart Traps, and Blackheart/Doom Traps. This is a great team in my opinion. I use Strider/Doom to kill Cable and others of his stature like Magneto, assists to set up the infinate on Sentinal, Blackheart to take Storm out of the air. Sometimes, against a strong Cable player, I'll use Ken rather than Blackheart for the invincible assist to protect Strider. The Blackheart/Doom Team is great for really slowing down the match and making speed-demons using Magneto fight at a much slower pace than they're used to.
By now you know I hate Sentinal. My favorite Sentinal Killer is of course Collosus. He is the perfect Sentinal Killer, as almost all of his moves win out, and his upwards shoulder rush beats just about everything the big dumb robot can dish out. Usually I use super armor, and then use my assists to kill his assists so that he has no protection and no useful set-ups. But against weak and meduim strength players, I just kill him straightaway. For these purposes, Collosus goes great with just about anybody, but I often use him with Blackheart to ground Storm and Doom to pin down other quick little characters.
Zangief, Ryu, Blackheart. MechaZangief= Unstoppable assists that set-up very easy supers... Actually, I guess it means unstoppable almost everything! Zangief is always just so much fun to play! Great for killing strong Magneto players. (Sometimes must beat the hells out of their assist first.) Against strong Cable and Sentinal players, I use him as an assist, using his Spinning Lariat rather than the throw. IF called with proper timing, he will take Cable out of his super, even though the point character gets hit. I always enjoy the look on the Cable player's face. Also fun to take Juggernaut out of his super. Speaking of which, for loads of fun with huge damage combos, replace Ryu with Juggernaut. Also, MechaZangeif is great for killing all sprite characters like strider and wolverine. They are pretty much useless against him, so long as I keep my assists beating their's. And if not, that's what the Spinning Lariat into a super is for.
I suppose I use about half the characters in the game, and I have more teams, but these are the ones I am most known for around the local arcade. Not that I'm claiming to be mvc2 god or anything, but I can hold my own against most.

I had such terrible luck with DC emulation... Chankast is crap.. and nullDC played my CvsS2 iso once! but then freezes after the main menu... so I gave up..
How I'd love to play Spawn In the Demon's Hand again..
