Well ever since Mr. DarthBrady said this, I've been wondering about it, and I would like to know how to do it. How do I connect my TV to my computer? The only thing I could find in my computer's manuel was a TV out (S-Video out) jack, which IDK what that is. I tried to hook my TV up to the computer that way, but no luck. Can anybody( DarthBrady ) help me?

There are probably more, and Darthbrady probably has a detailed guide or something, but it's a start. I'm going to try this with my older computer, which I think has AV and PC-to-TV support.

Okay, I'll check it out. Do you think that my TV might be too old for this stuff?
Okay, I'll check it out. Do you think that my TV might be too old for this stuff?I very much doubt it, unless it was, say, made in 1981 and lacking a video input slot.

I'll try again later though.

I just tried turning off my computer, hooking up the TV, and then turning the computer back on and nothing happened! I get this message when I try to use one of the Nvidia shortcuts;

Ok, I am here. I will do my best to get you playing on that T.V. of yours. ;)
Lets start with the basics, first, we need to confirm a few things, to help along the way. If you need help answering them, just ask.
Question 1:
-What Kind of Video Input Connections, does your TV have?
Here are a few common inputs:
*S-Video
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3176/svideorj1.png (http://imageshack.us)
*Standard RCA Video/Stereo audio
(By United States standards)
If you only have a white and Yellow, you have RCA Video/mono audio
Yellow is always video. White(or sometimes black) is always primary audio.
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/6928/rcavideolz2.png (http://imageshack.us)
*Component RCA Video (Basic type by U.S. standard)
(Three RCA cables, all for video. Audio must be connected seperately)
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/2791/componenthx4.png (http://imageshack.us)
*Coaxial Cable (just a regular cable TV connection)
*UHF/VHF (if you have UHF screws, your TV is really, really old)
Question(s) 2:
-What Types of Video Output connections Does your PC Have? Where are they located?
Here are a few common outputs:
*VGA Monitor (it's usually Blue, with 15 or 20 pins)
*DVI / High Definition (larger than VGA, usually white)
*S-video (standard) (like the picture above)
*S-video (PS/2 out)-this one requires a special S-video cable (looks like a PS/2 Keyboard or mouse plug, usually black)
*older PCs may have RCA video, or Coaxial outputs)
Question 3:
-What type of PC Video/Graphics Card do you Have?
(Brand and Model name)
Question 4:
What type of TV do you have?
(Brand Name, Screen size, and the model number if you can find it)
Question 5:
-Do you have your original TV remote? if not, do you know how to change input the TV input source (usually a button called somthing like "TV/VCR", or "GAME" or "AUX" or "Input")
NOTE: you also will need to make sure your PC video connections are for Video OUT, and not Video IN(capture/record) !

-What Kind of Video Input Connections, does your TV have?
S-Video, I think. I have the yellow, white and red wires, but it says in my manuel, TV out (S-Video out) jack.
-What Types of Video Output connections Does your PC Have? Where are they located?
I'm not really sure about this question.
-What type of PC Video/Graphics Card do you Have?
Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)
What type of TV do you have?
Sharp, 17 inches( I meansured with a ruler, so I'm not totally sure ), and IDK what a model number is, but it's maybe 10 years old :o.
-Do you have your original TV remote? if not, do you know how to change input the TV input source (usually a button called somthing like "TV/VCR", or "GAME" or "AUX" or "Input")
I do have the remote. If you're talking about going to the VCR( Or whatever is hooked up to it) channel then yes I do know how.

I will help you, but you have to help me and be more specific.
So it sounds like you have an S-video Jack and RCA jacks On your TV...Correct?
(just look on the back and see if they are there, the manual is usually universal for more than one model, so check the actual TV);)
And you have no Idea what kinds of video out jacks are on your video card? (thats an important one) (once agaom just look on the back of the PC)
get back to me on that, while i trace some info down for your video card.
How many Megabytes of RAM does the video card have on it? (64MB/128MB/256MB/512MB? - helps me to determine the correct setup/drivers needed)

One one side of the wire it's like the X-Video, except with more pins, and on the other side it's three wires, RCA( I think. Yellow, red, and white. )

IDK almost anything about video cards. Where do I look behind my PC?
256 MB RAM.

OK try this. Look at this Shot of the Back of one of my PC's.
You will see where I have labeled my video out ports on my video card.
I also marked my OLD VGA port, to show you where they normally are if you do NOT have an actual video card. (My PC didnt come with a video card originally, so I have a motherboard VGA port still, But it is Disabled by my Video Card!)
To plug a VGA monitor to my PC, I have to plug a "DVI to VGA Adapter" onto my Video card. (Which I removed, so no one gets confused when they look at the shot.)
So compare with the Giant Picture (I couldn't make it smaller without losing detail, sorry)
Does this help you a little more?
If so, let me know what your PC is got, so we can get past the hardware part of this, and see if we can get you ready to go! :)
NOTE: YOU WILL SEE MY VIDEO CARD HAS 3 PORTS, BUT I CAN ONLY USE 2 AT ONCE! (IT IS A DUAL-MONITOR CARD)
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/6863/backofpcaz4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
AHHH! MARGIN RAPE!
...
Anyway, where would I get a "DVI to VGA Adapter" and how much do they cost? This looks awesome. I've only done it once with a friend's help with his computer and plasma TV, which I don't have. His just had a couple of input-output cables that you plugged in, and that was that.

OK, so now I just need to make sure of some thing... based on what you said earlier. I know this is annoying, but you werent real ly clear as to which plugs are on what device.
This is what the cable you say you have, looks like to me based on what you described:
I am thinking the PC end of your cable looks like this:
http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/342/1000914ks3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Now I am not sure of this next part below, so please specify:
Does the TV end of your cable look like this: (standard RCA video/audio cables)
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/1627/rcavideowg3.png (http://imageshack.us)
or does it look like this: (component RCA video cables)
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/5803/componenttb4.png (http://imageshack.us)
or am I comlpletely wrong, and you TV end looks like this: (standard s-viseo cable)
http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/2281/1000915tc2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
so, which is it?
Also, you never clearly explained where the pugs on the back of you PC are located. Are they on actual video card like mine (the DVIs and Svids on my pic), or are they somewhere else? the reason I am asking this, is because if your video card did not come with your PC, and you installed after you bought it, and the s-video on your PC is NOT on the actual video card, but on the motherboard or somehwhere else like the front of the PC instead, its gonna make this a lot harder to figure out!

Okay. The S-video jack on my computer needs a wire like this one;

I need these wires for it to work on my PC;

Ahhh... Now I see.You Have a video card AND a TV tuner card.
So, I take it the cable only fits the TV tuner Card not the 4 pin jack next your VGA monitor jack, Correct? So thats where you had id plugged in?
-Look At the TV tuner card's s-video jack (its hard for me to see to read in the pic, bututs still a mighty good pic ;) )
-Does it say "AV IN" (is what it looks like), or does it say something else?
The one you really need to use to make it work with your TV easiest, is going to be the one with the 4 pins, in you Video Card, next to the VGA monitor plug.
But I am now assuming there is not an s-video jack on your tv, Just RCA. Right?
So, now, lets see what we can figure out about that TV card. Maybe it will let you, we will see. This will be tricky, TV cards are whole different ballgame.

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9284/tvtuneruj8.png (http://imageshack.us)
If is says, AV IN, by the 8 pin s-video port on it, then it is a Capture port most likely, you can use it for all kinds of cool video stuff like recording TV to Divx and stuff, But it's only video IN s-video, so it wont send a signal to a tv, just recieve signals. Get it? Anyway, the pic is kinda fuzzy on the card above, so I must ask, are those other 2 things Coaxial Cable Ports? if not, what are they? and what is printed by them(where I circled yellow)
But Anyway, the easiest way for you to hook your PC up to your TV to play on, is gonna Be a Standard 4-Pin S-Video to RCA Video Cable. You'll just plug it in next to your monitor and restart; an poof! it should work. ;)
To See the cable I am Talking about, Click Here! (http://www.national-tech.com/specs/10s2-32006g.htm)
But as I said, you have TV card, which is good. Hell, I wish I had one.
And depending on what card it is, and what its capable of, you may be able to use it after all. We'll just have to see. I dont have time to get into it right now, I have company visiting right now so I have to go. But until then, I suggest looking in your Device Manager (http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-420) to see if you can find some info on the TV card. Look around, dont be afraid of it, as long as you dont make any changes while browsing through the Device Manager, you should find the info in what all your PC components are listed as under windowsXP, as well as the drivers running them.
Until then... Hope this helps out so far, and I recommend gettin' that cable!

You should really watch This Episode (http://revision3.com/systm/mythtv/) of the show called SYSTM

No prob, but dont forget, if you get the cable (4-pin s-vid to rca video yellow), remember you will still need a cable for sound.
A great cable to do this, is very common, and even comes with most portable CD players. I bough one at wal-mart for 4 Dollars (just the cable, not a CD player). It is a cable with the standard mini headphone jack on one end, and Red/White(or Red/Black) Stereo RCA on the other end. So you can plug your PC Sound right into you TV or Home Stereo!
To See the Cable, Click Here (http://www.mycableshop.com/sku/MUMFRCA.htm)(you might want one longer than this one though ;) )

The Graphics coming from my Emulator, Put the actual N64 to shame. I am sure you will find, similar results :)
Lol, well I hope so. I'll try to get the wires today. I'll go to Best Buy, I'm sure they'll have them.

Oh, I never noticed you replied here, sorry so late.
I am very glad it works for you, I knew that would do the trick! ;)
Everything sunds normal to me. Keep in mind that your PC's monitor is able to use many more pixels at a higher resoltuion that your TV, which is why desktop or browser text may seem "fuzzy".
But the main reason for trying this, well, you hit the nail right on the head buddy! Its all about the Pro's and Cons of using a monitor instead of a TV. True, a monitor has more detail, which allows you to see more clearly. BUt this is a bad thing when you are trying to run someting on your PC that designed for TV, such as a emualted video game. Why? well look at it this way:
Using a monitor, you get more detail. this is good and bad. Good is a sense that you can see graphics in more detail, but Bad, is a sense that with getting more detail, you can also see graphics FLAWS more easily too, like jagged pixellated edges and an overall "unsmoothness".
Using your TV, helps to restore the games original beauty, so you can view it the way it was meant to be viewed. the TV's lower pixel count will "smooth out" some of your graphics so they look more like the real thing.
-And in some cases, BETTER, with all the new graphics features most emulators have, that the original game system console did not have. ahh.. If you could only see the difference between my actual N64 console, versus Project64 on my TV. It blows the N64 away! it looks so much better!
SO with that said, enjoy, and have fun with your new found toy! get a hookup adapter so you can use an N64 or PS2 controller on your PC, and you will be in emulator heaven :) trust me I did!

They work great, but I love the mario 2 on Super Mario All Stars on SNES. When I got that for christams back in the day, I couldnt quit playing it!

I saw a thread about connecting your PC to your tv, I'd like to know something, after connecting my tv do I need to my monitor connected also or can I remove my monitor and use my tv as the new monitor?

If your video card supports TV out, and you have the appropriate wires, I don't think you will need to plug your monitor in - just the TV.

Admin is correct on this one. If your graphic card supports it, ususally you dont need the monitor. However, Some cards require you to start up with the systems default video port (your monitor) and then switch to TV.
From personal experience (and a lot of it), as long as you have at leat a pentium 4 PC with Windows Xp and an Nvidia Graphics Processor, you shoudl be able to just plug in the TV, turn on the PC and Go!
**By default, standard TV usually cant achieve higher that 800x600 resolution, and remember, the pixel count is much less than the monitor, so small text will be difficult to read on a TV. But emulators Look closer to the real thing than your monitor ever will, with the right graphics card.
I recommend an Nvidia 6600 or higher graphics card with S-video output, PCI-Express x16 if your PC has it. But if not, go for AGP.

By the way, I am merging this thread with the orginal thread on the same subject, tommorrow morning. No need for two threads about the same thing. Just trying to keep the formus neat and tidy, nothing personal. :)
