I have been thinking about getting a DS emulator for a while, but I need to know something. How does playing a DS emulator compare to the actual experience? I mean a DS is touch screen. How could you play games like meteos without a touch screen? How!?

With your mouse....

Well most games aren't really emulated enough to play well, but they will soon. It's just a matter of time.

No no, there are DS emus and there are DS ROMs. Most ROMs don't work too well, and the ones that do are slow.

Huh playing ds games with your mouse... yeah that makes sense...

But I thought that you could only play with either your keyboard or your mouse, not both?

You can, heck I have a PC controller, and I can use all three at the same time.

I'm not gonna bother with them for at least a couple of months. They run slow and buggy.

A DS emulator is *nothing* like the real thing. They're useful devices, however, for trying out games you think you'd like to buy. Too bad the compatability lists are so short with them. I think the top emulator can only fully play about twenty-thirty games. Still, they're advancing pretty fast, so we can expect better versions in the near future.

I have a controller that doubles as a mouse. So that would make it easier for me to play DS games probably if I could set it up right lol! Though I have yet to figure out how to get it to work on the mouse setting besides moving the cruser around.

A DS emulator is *nothing* like the real thing.
Now what's wrong? Do you actually NEED the physical thing? A game is a game, no matter where you put it.

Like I said, you can use your mouse. I played a DS before, and the touch screen is the worst part. You have to try and play a game with that pen/stick thing in your hand... OR you can take it out and put it back in every 10 seconds. It's annoying!

I myself perfer to pay for games I enjoy playing. if I have the money and can fiind the game in store, I'll buy it. and what about the touch screen? I remeber hearing something about the mouse being use for touch screen features, is that ture?

It's annoying! That's funny, it works fine for me and all my friends and everyone I know and their friends and everyone who owns a DS and plays it regularly.

To be good with the touch screen (which is, by the way, the DS's most appealing feature) you have to have at least a basic knowledge of handwriting, and pretty advanced fine motor skills. With the mouse, you don't get the same kind of exact precision you get with the actual thing. If you can control the stylus well, it's going to be a lot cooler than the emulator. That, and the DS is portable.

Depending on what game I'm playing, I usually a. leave the stylus in it's mold until I need it, or b. keep it in my hand. It's not really that hard. Plus, with the emulator, you need to continually move your hand from the keyboard to mouse, so it's not that different. </sleepy>

Yes the real thing is better, but not by much. What difference does it make if you have to take the extra 2 minutes to start the computer to play the game? I'd rather sacrifice those 2 minutes and get the game for free instead of working like hell to get almost the exact same thing. I do understand what you mean. It's like renting a car. You might not pay taxes on it, but it's not really yours. :/

Now sorry I got off-topic. I had to say that! But yes the DS is emulated really crappy. I would wait a year til all/almost all the games are playable.

They're too small and easy to lose, but they serve their purpose fine. I think I still have one left... let me go look for it. I want to play Lost Magic.

I never had a problem with using the stylus when I had my DS. I actually enjoyed the fact that it had a touch screen. Thats why I like it over the PSP which is just a portable version of the PS.

I never had a problem with losing styluses either, but thats because I always put it up when I was done or I just used my finger.

True I lost the first 4 I made but I still have 2 left. As far as the stylus being very annoying when you play, I just hold it in my teeth until I need it. Playing w/ the stylus is not a big deal at all.

All it needs is a quick register (screen name/e-mail) and all of the GBA roms work fine. I haven't tried the DS though (take too long to download on AOL) so tell us how those roms are.

There's a few compatability lists floating out there somewhere, I'll try to find one and PM it to you, Meanwhile, you might want to try Google.

EDIT: Found one. This emultaor seems to be the most widely used, from what I've seen. http://www.desmume.com/nds-roms-compatible.htm

What PC are you running and what ROM are you using? I've only emulated the game a few times and it seemed to work fine for me, except for a few graphic scrambles.

Don't ask those things here! It's against the rules!

But you could always use google. ;) There are plenty of sites that give out GBA games. And there are some sites that give out NDS games.

Really?? Can U tell me which of the DS emulators has an option for a joystick?? Because I haven't seen one so far, keyboard/mouse only :) ....

All NDS Emulators run like crap. They run very few commercial games. The ones that do run, dont run very good at all. You will all have to wait awhile. One game that I did get working good with Desmume was that Princess Peach Platforming game.

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean that. I meant that you can play with a joystick, mouse, and keyboard on emulators, IDK if any DS ones have that option though.

A couple more months? Maybe a couple more seasons, but not months. It's been going REALLY slow, and bearly any games work. Maybe in half a year or in that range, but I don't think they'd go too far in a couple of months.
