Ok, I gotta know. What is with the Annoying pop-ups that are appearing all over the forums, over words like "computer" and "internet"?
This is not appealing at all. Now every time I scroll through the site to use the forums, I am being bombarded with these blue words popping up a note trying to get me to buy a computer from some unheard of site.

The first one I seen in a post, I thought was a URL link they had posted so I clicked on it, and Norton tells me that there has been an attempt to install adware on my PC automatically, and it asks if it can block the sites.

Is this something done by the site? Or is there some strange adware installed on my pc? Anyone else getting this crap?

Look, I dont want to be complaining, but the whole reason I use this forum, is it isnt filled with pop up ads like others. Until Now. I understand it takes things like advertising to keep sites like this going, but.... Why does it have to be this way? or am I just being retartded?

I got them too. I know that Snesorama has them, so I just think that they're advertisments. I mean unless you have a sponser, you'll have to pay for the site yourself... so I think admin put them up for more bandwith or something.

oh well. I dont like it, but if it help our beloved site... well okay so be it.

Hey guys, sorry for causing all the confusion. I was recently approached by Vibrant Media, and they wanted me to try running their contextual ads on our forums. At first I hesitated, but later decided to give it a test run, since our bandwidth costs are growing each month. I know this may annoy some of you, but if this type of ad can make equal or more than popups on our site, would you guys prefer it?

if its keeping this site going then i'm fine with it

Yes, if it will keep us going, then so be it! With CoolROM's increasing expenses, we will have to compensate with more revenue.

Well, If it keeps the site going, that's ok with me.

I just cant stand how when I move my mouse cursor to click on something, and the ad pos up in my way so I cant click where I wanted to without clicking the ad:mad2: . Other than that, it could be worse I guess.;)

Thanks for your time.

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Besides, no one's going to even look at these links that appear in our posts, so in a positive perception, you may as well think they're paying you for nothing.

Yes, at first I thought Iconoclast was trying to PM me some sort of adware. I was like WTF? Then I realized that this was the same feature eumparadise had, and it was an epiphony of sorts. Anyhow, I'm not a fan of it, and I liek popups better because I can X them out, assuming they aren't just blocked by firefox or norton or something. But whatever.

What the?!?! Gosh, Dang & Heck! Ads, Ads and more ads every where!
Why, it reminds me of the early days of cable! Sure, we believed them when they said the great thing about it was NO ADS! None, nada, zip!
Paid dang good money for the service and they slipped 'em in on us.
Sure, sure, it would be totally different if we got all the gaming goodness this site has to offer what with all the ROMs and Emulators and contest and a place to talk about them and have a good time if the site were --FREE-- but, um. Er......................

never mind.

After careful consideration, I have decided to remove all contextual ads from our forums. I feel that our forums should be an ad-free environment for our users to converse in, and I will try to keep it that way in the future. In the next few days, I will also be debating whether or not I should drop the loop voting system, or drop top site links altogether. As long as CoolROM.com is forever in your hearts, that is all that matters, right? ;)

Oh, I am so happy now!

See people, that is why this forum is the greatest Emulation Forum EVER. :D

But to be honest, I could care less about the loop ad things ( you are talking about the ESA rom thing where they vote, right?) I say there is no harm there. It serves its purpose of getting votes (i assume), it distracts leechers and its not like there is some abundance of people posting questions about it, at least no more than before we had the loop voting, IMO)

I'm just glad to see the context pop up ads go! three cheers for that!

If you ask me i say it should go. we don't really need it do we? alls it does is make newbs mad and want to give are be loved site a low vote. plus that anime thing is just wrong, i know you can't coontroll that being there but it still wrong and makes it look like coolrom supports it and we don't want that do we? well these are just my opinions lets see what others think

Just the one on the main page would be my suggestion. Voting costs us nothing, and it's a way to support CoolRom. Right?

Thank you for your comments in such a short amount of time :). The reason why I thought about removing the voting links altogether is because of the adult ads on them. I know there are other top sites without them, but those ones receive little traffic, and would be not worth the amount of hits we send in. I am sure there are other ways we can promote our site.

Well what sort of stuff do you need? Sponsers, or something like that?

I didn't realize the adult ads were part of the system... I thought they were some kind of sponser-inflicted thing. An alternative would be nice, though. :)

Well, the adult ads on, let's say, top50emu.com, are basically sponsoring them. I am pretty sure they get a decent income on the ad, and that could be the reason why it has been there for so long. Currently, CoolROM has a pretty good list of sponsors to help pay for our server fees, so that should not be a problem. We only need to get the word about our site out there, too as many people as possible. Basically, the more hits we get, the more revenue we receive.

Fierce Deity

Well, the adult ads aren't good, but lets not get rid of that or the loop voting until we are certain we have found an alternative. The same way thgat you don't quit a job until you find a new one, or at least a possibility.
