I want to purchase a graphics card that is both high end and mid-ranged price, so I thought I would go with a Geforce 7900GT. But I've read alot of different reviews for this on different sites with different manufacturers and many people are having some major trouble with this board. Does anyone have first hand experience with this board and if so tell me how it's working for you, or even have some knowledge as to how/why it's having so much trouble?

The only way I know of to play chess online is to use NetPlay on Project64k.
I mean, or we could just post images of our moves one by one here, but that's a little...
Do you know anything about NetPlay or KailleraClient?

I've never heard of either so fill me inGet the software called Project64k here.
http://www.ngemu.com/n64/pj64k.php?action=get&id=229
Download the files in the zip archive that comes up to whatever directory you like. Then run the file 'Project64k.exe', not 'Project64.exe'.
Once it opens, choose the "File/Start NetPlay..." command.
Now, then it takes you to a list of servers. Usually, you want to meet an user in a specific one, and start a multiplayer game, there.
But because of my dad's restrictions, I can't load any of the servers. I'm sorry, but I can't play chess right now.

I'm running two 7900 in SLi and I've never had a problem with them, the closest thing to a problem I did have was that I needed to buy another fan for my case because of the heating issue. If you do go with the 7900, I'd recommend going with Evga as the manufacturer, they offer a double lifetime warranty for free with the purchase of the card.

also EVGA cards are better than other nvidia based cards.
if you look for a card cheap but powerful try the 7600gt is cheap for the perfomance it offers.
but in my case I thought that buying the most expensive card would compesate the time.
By example the 7950gx2. yeah is very expensive but will pass very but very long time before buy another

It depends, BFG Tech gets better core clock and clock frequency speeds on its pci-based cards, but Evga gets better performance out of its AGP 4x/8x cards. XFX also makes some of the best out of the box over-clocked cards out there.

I'm looking for something that can run some very demanding games on high or very high, including F.E.A.R, Civ IV and Doom 3, so I think I need to go big on the graphics card.

Well the 7900 will run all of those games on its highest setting with ease, but that wont matter if you don't have enough ram. The games you mentioned are very big resource hogs when there set to there highest, F.E.A.R in particular, I have 2gigs of ram and I'm still only getting about 80 FPS when I run it, doom 3 can be ran relatively easily though with only 1gig of ram, and CIV IV really likes that you have 1gig of ram.

Yeah I'm intending to go big on the ram. Most likely 1 gig of dual channel at first and then a second a while later.

Are you planning on going with the agp version of the 7900 or the pci-e version, and are you planning on overclocking it?

I am pretty good at chess too, but Iconoclast can beat me. I was never really ofically trained, I taught myself, so I guess I am proud to even be a challeneg for him. I have beaten him too though, but I'd say he's better.
On topic: My video card is integrated into my motherboard, so I am sure whatever you get will be better than mine!

Actually, would you believe me if I said no one taught me how to play other than myself as well? And I learned how to play in one of the worst ways possible: Randomly guessing legal chess moves in a chess program, learning a pattern to see which moves were legal and which weren't. Then, I found several other ways to improve, such as the Virtual Chess 64 tutorial. Go through that ****load, and you'll improve.

I would say that I choose the nerdiest way to learn; books. Yeah I spent money and time on books to help me improve. They worked great though so I say it's worth it.
And Iconoclast if you can't access any servers like you said we could always do it the old fashion way; use an instant messenger or something and chess notation to call out or moves. We'd each have our own board and move each others pieces. Actually this works pretty well, I've done it over the phone too.

I learned in almost the same way, when i got my first computer, it came with chessmaster 4000 and was my only game for the longest and I learned to play from that.

I can give you an overclocking program designed for Nvidia based cards thats pretty good and lowers the cards performance if its exceeds its heat threshold. IM me if you want it and I'll send it to you.

At this point I've only got $300 and I need 600 to finish up my pc so when I finally get it all done I'll take you up on that.

The program is free, I thinks it's called coolbits or something, don't really remember since i installed it a long time ago, but it is the best overclocker for those cards.
