what are we going to do with them? will they be cancelled after no response for a set amount of time? i wouldn't mind going in and weeding out all the dead accounts... (yeah, I know its a lame excuse for power...)
but seriously, once the forum gets bigger, many people are going to make accounts and forget about them. you may consider appointing a "head of account management" to do something like send a warning email a week before a dead account cancellation sometime in the future... That way, you can have more time to lead the forum forward.

What are you talking about? We only have 200members. It's a little soon to be thinking about that.

thatsright iceman and besides dead account or no it makes the forum look more popular lol

the key word were "in the future"
sooner or later, when coolROM is popular wihout dead accounts, they will only be a nuisance and will make the member list look fugly...
am i the only one who thinks this???

how will they be a nuisance?

if the admin wants to take a census or something else that involves all members, he would have to sift through dead accounts to find active ones
they make the forum less efficent
PLUS they waste space on the database (hey, that rhymed!)
i'm not saying the issue is urgent, or even necessary, i'm just making a suggestion...
So true... this will be an issue in the future.
But the number of members will be significantly lower if this did happen though. I guess its better to wait until after the forum becomes more llively.

What issue will that be then??
Do U really think that with all the ISOz and the ROMz this site has there's going to be a problem with accounts taking up too much space?? Posts might be able to take up some space, eventually, but then U just delete a bunch and it's alright again, it's not very likely people will dig up posts from over a year ago so those can be deleted.
Account deletion?? That's quite a horror, let's say Ur account gets deleted after not using it for two months. Now something happens, Ur PC get stolen or U've lost Ur internet connection and U R not able to log in for what ever reason, wouldn't it be a real ***** to find out that Ur account got deleted when U come back??

Kameo, Kameo, Kameo...
are u having a bit of reading trouble?
i was talking about UNUSED accounts!
It states it in the title!
I don't think anyone would cry over an account that they have never used; they could just make another one; one they would use.
As far as the dead accounts not mattering, well it may seem that way, but having an disorganized forum may make the admin and coolROM look unprofessional to potential members. Good businesses make sure that every aspect, no matter how small, is properly maintained. As Franklin once said "A small leak can sink a great ship."
As for the space thing, you got a point there...;)

perhaps to prevent confusion, accounts that are old and have not been used at all from registration could be called "stillborn accounts" rather than "dead accounts" (accounts used, but not used in a very long while)
I am saying we find a system to get rid of hopeless "stillborns"

How would you know if a account is unused? What if the person went on vacation or what Kameo says you get your PC stolen. You would think the account is dead not unused. If by unused do you mean like they never posted? If so who the heck would create an account and not use it.

I really don't see a point in deleting them, what's the use of it?? There's going to be thousands and thousands of people who come here, create an account, only post once or twice because they got some question that they want to be answered and then they never return, that's pretty much normal on a forum about emulation.
If U R going to delete the accounts that R not used then, eventually there will only be accounts from people that visit on a regular basis, this doesn't make the forum more professional, it makes it more like an elite thing which I personally think is stupid.
If U want to look professional then gain some knowledge about emulating things and help people out, don't give them half arsed answers which isn't really going to help them. Know and understand what U R talking about and put up some great support to all of those who don't know. IMO this will make the forum look more professional than deleting a bunch of accounts...

Iceman:
you can see the unused accounts at the member list
they are the ones with the post count at 0
I am not saying we should get rid of accounts with any posts, good sir.
Kameo:
unused accounts will take up some space, eventually, but then we can take a bunch and delete them and its alright again, its not very likely that a person would dig up an account they never used a year or so later, so those can be deleted.
I am proposing this as a sort of maitenance program. Think of it like windows xp's desktop clean-up wizard. If unused accounts become numerous enough to cause a problem or something, we can just delete some; simple as that. People who don't use the forums should never get in the way of people that do.
if people only ask a question and never return, as you say, then their accounts are purposeless information on the coolROM database. The accounts will not simply go away, sooner or later, they may need to be deleted. if they want to come back to ask another question or whatever, they could make another account, rather than us keeping the old account assuming they will be back. I was not suggesting we delete used accounts anyway...
I am interested in learning about emulation. U and Msjl2(i can't spell it) have done a good job posting walkthroughs, and I hope to be as knowlegeable as U 2 sometime in the future. if you continue to write them, many people would be saved from the trouble of signing up when they only want a quick answer to their question.
also, if by "elite," you mean participating at all, then yes
sheesh, it's like a press conference in hizzle! :D ;

I believe you have a point there chaos, but that's something we shouldn't have to worry about for now. Right now, I am trying to get the forum growing, and any members (active or inactive) will not hurt. When we get to the stage when you need to clean up unused accounts, I will be sure to contact you :). Thanks for your concern.

I always assumed we had so many because you couldn't look at the iso links without being a member, but I was a member before that and never checked so tbh I haven't a clue.
EDIT- Nope, non-members can't even view the threads. If there are no posts on these old accounts I really wouldn't mind if they where deleted, were there some need to.

Like Kameo said earlier in the thread, I see no point to this. People come here for emulation questions and never return. Happens everywhere, so I would rather leave it as is.
