I love the horror film genre. It gives a certain adrenaline rush...That can't be beat.
Since I don't have a favorite horror film...I guess I have to go witht the "Nightmare on Elm street." Series...http://www.dvd-forum.at/special/nightmare/bilder/freddy-krueger.jpg http://www.dvd-forum.at/special/nightmare/bilder/nightmare2-11.jpg

I liked the House serie, the Evil Dead serie and the first Exorcist movie. Maybe because I was still a kid back then when those movies were released. Anyhow, they scared the hell out of me back then :D .

Today the day they bore me, especially that whole teenager slashing movie crap like Scream or I Know What U Did Last Summer, such a load of pure garbage.

My vote goes to Rocky and Bullwinkle :p ....

Well, I'm a few years younger, so I was a little kid when they came out(or not even born yet -1983), but add the Amityville horror series to that post, and its like you read my mind!

The original Night Of The Living Dead was just fantastic and started a love affair with zombie movies that still lives with me today.
The Evil Dead is probably my favorite series but if Rob Zombie comes out with another movie to continue what he started with The House Of a Thousand Corpses and The Devil's Rejects I would say I had a new "Favorite.
If I had to pick just one movie right now it would be The Last House On The Left.

my favorite horror film would be saw or house of wax, its been a long time sence a movie actully made me cover my eyes and look away befor them movies. they bring out a aspect of horror that was never really touch on by film befor them. i'm really not bothered by monsters and scary faces because i know its not real, they make me jump once in a while but its only that split secound of fear. and movies like freddy, jason, micheal myers dont bother me because they dont drag out the killing. most of it is just being chased untillyour caut and get killed in one shot. -------SPOILER ALERT--------
the idea of haveing your face being pealed off then choped in half while covered in burning hot wax and being unable to move a single finger or even scream just freaks the hell out me. and the idea of having to chop off your own foot or cut your own eye open is just horrible (from saw and saw 2). compaired to stuff like having an axe planted in the back of your head just doesnt scare me.

The first Saw movie was great but the second one didn't do much for me.
It had its moments but for the most part, meh. I'll be going to see Saw III as soon as it opens though!

SPOLIER ALERT

in saw 2 when the guy has the key stuck in his eye i would have just stuck my head into a corner, or broken a leg off teh chair and stick it in the middle of the trap. that way when the timer goes off it wont be able to close :P that way its like "hey i'm half naked with a key stuck in my eye and a crazy spiky metal mask around my face but at least i'm not gona die.... sure hope someone finds me....." :P

Freddy rules, if only because he's more original than "stalk someone, slash someone, repeat". I'm kinda shocked there's no Friday 13th on that list, or texas chainsaw.

Ok, so there's slight difference between the old and the new movies I have to mention here. Click on any movie title to get further information at www.imdb.com (http://www.imdb.com)

So for the new movies are made for the masses, let's say they are mainstream like Saw (2004) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387564/), House of Wax (2005) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397065/) or Scream (1996) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117571/) (BTW this sucks! Even if it's a WC (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000127/) movie).
On the other side there are the oldskool movies like Nightmare on Elm Street (1987) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087800/) (best and most creative ever), Hellraiser (1987) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093177/) or Evil Dead (1981) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083907/). By the way, if you're in to Wes Craven (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000127/) you should have noticed, that "Scream III (2000) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134084/)" might be a remake of "Nightmare on Elm Street 7 - Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111686/)" as it has basicly the same story.

But what am I trying to tell you? As mentioned the new mainstream movies are not that scary anyway, because they are mainstream! Get it? So you can't compare old and new movies.
Where's the frontier between them? I would say it is around the time of 1990 to 1994 where the horror genre has changed a lot. For example: I have seen Halloween: H20 (1998) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120694/) and was barely dissapointed that it was just a mainstream-remake of the original (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077651/) from '78!
Now I'm asking myself why I'm writing this...

Just wanted to say that Freddy Krüger was the meanest, "can get you everywhere in your dreams, when you can't defend yourself, 'cause he normally that quick you don't notice it" character of all times. Did I mention Evil Dead (1981) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083907/)? I did! There are just slightly differences between Evil Dead (1981) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083907/) and Evil Dead II (1987) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092991/) in the storyline, so we could say it was a remake. But Army of Darkness (1992) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/) really was a fun horror title I like to watch often.

So I'm an oldshool horror movie lover! Have to get a grab on the original The Hills have Eyes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077681/) from '77 for some comparing issues about raping girls and doing other things like that in the actual version.

Also I like video game horror movies a lot like Resident Evil (2002) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120804/) , Resident Evil II: Apocalypse (2004) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0318627/), Doom (2005) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419706/) or Alone in the Dark (2005) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369226/)

I think I've done a good job on this... :D
