I was wondering if there was anyway I could assign more of the internet connection to DLing since I have dial up. It usually starts going at 15KB but eventually drops down to 2.8KB or lower. If anyone knows of a way I can make my DLs go faster it would be much appreciated.

Check Ur ISP for what Ur actual up and download speeds R, if it's like 2.8 KBs, which I can hardly imagine, it's never going to get faster, U get capped off by Ur ISP, ask Ur provider.

But isn't dial up a little bit 1996?? Is there no better provider in Ur area or something?? And if there is, don't U think it's time to switch to ADSL/cable ??

Haha very funny -.- I live in the country so dial up is our only option. There might be wireless that can come out here but max, moms bf who gets the internet, hasn't gone and asked about it. I wish he would......tired of this dial up crap...I miss my DSL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do I go to check my ISP? I looked in my properties of my net connection and didnt see it.

Yes, it is normal for dial-up downloads to start much faster, and then slow down. This is pretty much what kameo said above. When you download, the uploading server 99.9% of the time, is gonna have a faster conection then dial-up, and will "cap" downloads form dial-up connections, and well as your ISP capping them too.

when I used dial-up, DL speeds were about 3 to 4 KB max, it really depends on your area and signal strength. That and the fact that most ISPs are starting to cap dial-up at a very low speed, so you will want to get broadband.

Hmmm... I have dial up, too, yet I live in the suburbs, so I could have an internet connection up to 30 Mbps here....not that my parents would get that. My ISP is AOL, and I get 5 kbps on average. One time, my speed was at 25+ kbps for a few minutes! How is that possible on my modulator demodulator?? o_O

I have 56k dial-up, and when I download something the download speed starts at 2kB/sec and goes up to about 7kB/sec, or maybe even faster. I live in the Land of the Midnight Sun and I got dial-up, and it sucks, but my dial-up is unusually good for a dial-up.

i have Cox Cable and I on average get 250 to 300 kb/s download and 300 to 350 kb/s upload on bittorrent. when i'm downloading from a good server, like the ones from download.com or so, i get on average 3mb to 4mb per second. defintely upgrade, dude :).

try this for fixing/tweaking slow download speeds: http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

and try this for seeing what your average up/down speed is and compare it to what you should be getting from that specific ISP: http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest
commoen, i said i had dial-up not a dsl...???

Here's my advice on dial-up. Get rid of it. I f you think it's slow, it's because it's dial-up.

Dial up is NO GOOD!! DSL is almost as cheap and the vastly increased amount of stuff you can download per second pays for itself quickly.

Wow, what brought this thread back from the dead? lol

anyway, like it was said in an above post, and I dont mean to offend anyone, but....

If you are using Dial-Up, than you problem IS Dial-UP!!! It's Web 2.0 Dude, Dial-Up is going to just get slower, and slower. Most sites today are even starting to limit bandwidth to ALL dial up ISP's, So they stop slowing down braodband users trying to browse the same site. Its no different than driving a car, and being stuck behind a really slow driving old-person. get it?
