I assume you are talking about Kirby's Dreamland 3 for the SNES.

If I'm right in my assumption then yes but only in one level.

The point of the Metroids in each room are for you to use any ice elemental ability (Like Ice or Blizzard or w/e) and freeze the Metroids. Then you can knock them into nearby lavafalls or something like that. At the end of the level Samus will be waiting for you. If you managed to deal with all the Metroids in the level then you get the heart-star dealie for that level.
