The original thread "CoolROM Video Bragfest" was deleted because it was full of, well, shall we say crap? Mostly links to expired videos uploaded using FileSend.net. FileSend's good and all, but in this thread, users should only use PhotoBucket or some other media-uploading website to upload videos and link to them here. I'm not sure, but I think ImageShack is also OK; it depends if it only hosts your video for a certain amount of time or not, which is not a limitation for PhotoBucket.

So, to start off, these are the videos that remain viewable from PhotoBucket.com, and were filmed by Iconoclast:

Spirit Temple Boss Battle: http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j112/rswedlo/Videos/?action=view&current=Movie.flv
The Unnamable Boss Battle: http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j112/rswedlo/Videos/?action=view&current=HolyMoley.flv

*For some reason, the second part of the Spirit Temple Boss Battle was cut off. I'll fix that if someone wants.

As for the rest of the users, those who do not have Fraps, can get it from www.fraps.com (http://www.fraps.com) (I think it was) or post requests or challenges of us to film videos. For example, film beating Majora's Mask using only the Zora Link transformation mask (and avoid that fire beam) without getting hit once.

It says that videos over 5 min long will be truncated. OH NOES! Gotta watch that.....

We should get CD/Kurt/admin to sticky this....

Uhh, the mofo previously known as Fraps now makes faulty videos that nothing can open. This isn't good.....

There's a program out there that might work, called HyperCam 2 (I believe. I could be wrong).

I don't know where you'd find it, though. Google is probably the best bet.

Fraps won't work with Chankast... ever. Just an FYI. It works pretty well for every other emulator and most PC games. I open it with some program I got somewhere that I can't remember. It was a trial version.

If you want to make Chankast videos, I recommend the excellend Chankast Alpha .25 Utility Pack. It comes with a bunch of useless utilities, and two great utilities: SnapIt (I think) and AVI Recorder, which is one of the only ways to capture emulated Dreamcast on video.

I'm not stickying this until it reaches five pages, but CD can do it if he wants.

I either use Fraps to record videos, or, for special reasons, take screenshots of my entire gameplay, import them into Jasc Animation Shop, save it as an AVI, import to Windows Movie Maker, export as WMV, and we have a movie. I don't know if Chankast (whatever that is) will take screenshots, though.

Now with the videos. I'm busy preparing something, so none from me yet.

Uhh, the mofo previously known as Fraps now makes faulty videos that nothing can open. This isn't good.....Fraps records videos that are readable by Windows Movie Maker, and that should be sufficient to you. I may not be able to edit the video with Animation Shop because of excessive video elements that were saved in the file, and that's not Fraps' fault. Don't worry about it.

You think I didn't think of WMP? The files are corrupt somehow. And I worry about everything. EVERYTHING.

Fraps still works fine for me. I make the videos (I can only do this with N64 emulators so far, as I haven't found any others that it works with), then I import them into windows movie maker, then I convert to a .WMV, and I save. Since the .AVI is usually around half a Gig, I like the 10MB .WMV a lot better.

Damned interleave....

Fierce Deity, what's interleave? Crazed Dragon, could you delete that post of yours so that I can get this last post on the first page of this thread? I forgot to add something here. Also, could you change the icon of this thread to this? http://www.coolrom.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif Thanks. And, yes, make this a sticky by whatever prerequisite you see necessary.

The following users are known to post videos of their gameplay:

chaos master (a.k.a. CM)
Fierce Deity (a.k.a. FD)
Iconoclast (If you're desperate, call me R.J., w/ or w/out dots.)
Kurt (only for Chankast videos, I think)All other users may only post challenges for us to film things or post questions about filming or how to 'film' these videos. By 'film', I mean 'produce'.

What did your brother do to cause that? Or did he do it himself? No, I mean, this happened to him. That idiot wanted to get his hundredth coin by shooting out of the cannon, making the star appear in the air, go all the hell the way back up there, and shoot at it again. IDK why; just wanted to do things the hard way, I guess. I told him, just jump off the island, pick up a coin, and you got the star, but he ignored me, shot out of the cannon, and got the wrong star, inevitably. What an idiot!

He is, and, in the Chinese Zodiac, he was born on the Year of the Chicken. Man, these zodiacs and horroscopes always seem to come true...not to say he's a chicken as in a coward, but a moron.

Anyway, I think I'm going to get some more Super Mario videos, after I get something else set straight.

Oops. Forgot to use Photobucket. Ah, well, it was crap, anyway. There are parts of the video I did good, but some parts, like letting myself get held up by those bullies, were embarrassing.

No more from me, for a while; I'm working on something big, now.

Many of us voted what sign were are voted in in a thread named "Chinese Zodiac," which I think I started in the General Chat forum.

This: http://www.filesend.net/download.php?f=cc0bf4e72df55d9937d6f6827e3ba7a9

The project is a little stressful, but I was able to get the spinning globe and the music looping correctly. The really hard part is the text...you can't type in that font; I have to import those characters.

Although, hey, you could help me out on this project, too, if you want. I got the music optimized perfectly for WAV format, but I can't convert it into MP3 format without SOME minor loss in quality, usually crackling. If you think there's a way, I could send you the sourcecode.

Try as I might, there is nothing more I can do to decrease the file size except for a few image optimizations that aren't even worth it.

Holy crud! Did you draw that or record that or what?

I have a mega awesome audio editor, so I can use that to convert it if you want. I used it to make my toad song for that FLA you compressed for me.

Holy crud! Did you draw that or record that or what?Four words: I am the master.

To make the globe, I held F12 in 1964 to take screenshots. I cropped out the globe and erased many pixels. The screenshots were combined into an AVI, and reformatted into a GIF. The music looping was difficult to program.

But I want the SWF smaller in file size, and to do that, I may need Fierce Deity to format the WAVs in MP3 format, without losing conspicuous quality.

I did everything I could; but I couldn't get that thing under a megabyte in file size. In AVI video format, it was 8 MB. In AVI format, 8-bit color depth, which I was luckily able to apply, it was 3 MB. I just saved it in GIF, and 256 colors seemed enough, in GIF format, 1 MB, divided into 94 images.

Now, I just have to program the menus, and it'll look like I made my own emulator for the game The World is not Enough 007. However, I cannot make the part of the game that you play, just the menus and the loading screen.

Fierce Deity

I may be able to help you, but not what you are thinking. I can still compress those if you want, but, if you use http://imageshack.us, you get 1500KB, which is a bit less than 1.5 MB. So, if it is that small, then the more power to you.

Iconoclast
08-29-2006, 08:45 PM
Yeah, I saw that, 1,500 KB.... The spinning globe is already a megabyte, though, so it may be impossible to get the SWF down to even that size.

What's that old website you used to use? Before photobucket, some site that you said had issues with the SWFs you uploaded? Maybe I could try that if it tolerates larger SWFs.

Anyway, this is really getting off-topic from video game videos, so in a matter of time, I would hope that Crazed Dragon or Kurt deleted these previous posts. Further discussion of this should probably be kept in private messages.

I think it was FileXoom.net, but you can't host directly for too long, or they remove the lnk. It's hard with Image Shack, but possible. Thing about imageshack is, anybody can download it.

Iconoclast
08-29-2006, 08:56 PM
Maybe I should just forget about making it less than 1501 KB, and just use FileSend to upload it. It may only be temporarily available for download, but that's OK; hopefully it'll stay long enough for some of the users here to see it.

You know, using that MS-DOS binary editor, you can rename the title bar description of a Flash publication, publised and compilied with Flash Player as an EXE. You can even edit the About Macromedia Flash Player... option to "About TWINE SWF Imitation" or whatever with hacking like that, but only if it's an EXE, not an SWF. Just saying.

I had a feeling I should've started this in the Graphics forum so I can delete these posts ASAP. That's why I tend to start important threads in the forum I moderate: If you want something moderated right, you gotta moderate it yourself. I'm just online that often.

Fierce Deity
08-29-2006, 09:00 PM
You don't need a MS-DOS editor for that. Go into the publication settings and under export types check .EXE and it will make you a self-executing Flash file. Pretty nifty, especially if the users don't have that Flash Player yet.

I know how to publish as an EXE, but I meant changing the title bar description, Macromedia Flash Player (version #), to whatever you want.

Anyway, I tried noodles' site, and I uploaded this video. Though I said hell and used FileSend anyway.... I don't think any of you Super Mario 64 gamers are ever going to beat this level, because Mario took a jump and forgot his Wing Cap.
