View Full Version : Metroid or Castlevania?
Since both series have a vaguely similar gameplay style and are immensely awesome, I want to see which one CoolRom likes better. I've played every Metroid game and nearly every Castlevania game besides the newer PS2 ones and the one on the DS.
For me, it comes down to seven games: Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion: or Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, Castlevania 2(or three) and Dracula X? I can't decide yet. The Castlevania series has a lot of great games, but those newer ones kind of sucked, and the Metroid series has fewer games, but none are crap.
Nope, still can't decide.
EDIT: Castlevania also has better music. Can't forget that...

I voted for Castlevania, because of the differing theme.
I don't know, Metroid just never really captured me.
I'm definitely leaning towards Castlevania, even though the level design got boring with the last couple games. Well, the 2D ones, anyway.
Still, though. Metroid Fusion is my favorite GBA game of all time, and Prime held me inside for weeks, something no game has been able to do since Warcraft II.

I don't play either of those games; should I vote for "I don't play video games?" I mean, that's not true, so....
Hey, Kurt, how come you only want to film videos of games in Chankast (What is that, a Gamecube emulator?) when you like Castlevania, which I see has a game for the N64?

Chankast is a Dreamcast emulator, which I mainly use for fighting games when my friends hang out here. Sometimes I film me playing Third Strike if I'm really, really, REALLY bored. That aside, Castlevania 64 isn't nearly as good as Symphony of the Night or Dracula X. For one, it's 3-D. It's still a decent game, but if I told you I liked it more than the PSX Castlevania I'd be lying. LYING!

I choose Metriod. I like both, but castlevainia bores me after awhile even though I like to play. metroids though fast to beat, are game I enjoy playing over and over again

I mean, nothing against Metroid by any means. I just.. don't particularly care for most futuristic, space-themed games.

I like Metroid series better by far.
Sure I thought the Castevania series was okay as well but nothing compared to the Metroid series.

I think the Metroid series is probably the more well-known of the two, especially among those that have been "raised on Nintendo".

Symphony of the Night, Circle of the Moon, Dracula X, Aria of Sorrow and a couple others all have excellent replay value, because you can play the game through with multiple characters. Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid are just as addicting, but Castlevania is known specifically for replay value. Especially when you're trying to collect all the weapons or souls in a game.
The Metroid games are longer and usually somewhat better designed, but I have less incentive to play them again after I beat them. And the bosses in Castlevania are worth fighting multiple times just for fun.

Oh MY effing' GOD! You sick puppy! how can you make me choose?
Well, props to you, this is one of the most difficult polls to answer I have ever seen.;)
I cant live without symphony of the night, but losing my samus is just as bad. What will it be? I'm gonna have to sleep on this one, and vote in the morning.:mad2:

I think Symphony Of The Night is one of the greatest 2D games ever. And I do mean greatest. Top 5 at least. Metroid? Meh, good yes. But great?

First I just want to say this was an obvious choice for me. Castlevania is way better then Metroid in my opinion. Though I do like Metroid, Castlevania is alot funner.

Symphony of the Night is the best Castlevania of all time, but Aria of Sorrow on GBA is a very close second. I beat it on normal and need to start working on the hard version. Plus I need to beat it with Julius now. Fricken sweet!
I think Symphony Of The Night is one of the greatest 2D games ever. And I do mean greatest. Top 5 at least. Metroid? Meh, good yes. But great?Well, Super Metroid's right on up there. But Symphony Of The Night is one of the best games ever, so Castlevania wins, hands down.

Castlevania is a Godsend. The art in the level backgrounds, in the official character art, and the individual character stories. They all rock. I love this series so much. I was VERY lucky to find Symphony of night in the store. It was pre-owned and £25 (quite a lot for pre-owned), but I gladly paid that much for it. I haven't seen a single copy of that game in the UK before or after that time :D
I got into the series from Legacy of Darkness on N64. I have:
N64:
LoD
PS1:
Chronicles
SotN
GBA:
CotM
HoD
I deperately want to get Portrait of Ruin (Gallery of Labyrinth, in Japan) on the DS, set in 1944 :D :D :D
In case it's not clear, I voted for Castlevania :p

Honestly, I never got into much of the other Metroid games besides the original, but I played that to death and still do on occassion so that's where my vote went.
Castlevania, I dunno, they're good games, but for some reason or another I tend to give up halfway through. I dunno. I seem to get a few hours into it and my monster whipping needs are met so I put it down for another couple years. :-\
