I've tested it on my PC after I installed the retail version of Microsoft Virtual PC and I must say that I'm very content with it :).

No longer I need to use DOSBox and the likes to run some old DOS Games, I'm running DOS in a virtual environment on my XP now :). It's great for Games, which is the only thing I'm using DOS for, but I'm sure there's a whole lot more purposes for this open source DOS :) .

Get the open source MS-DOS, called Free-DOS, @ http://www.freedos.org

Don't ask for a retail version of Microsoft Virtual PC, get it from the known resources ;) ....

You are downloading an entire operating system, and in most cases, you are then going to install the operating system on your computer. If you already have another operating system on your computer, it may be overwritten during the installation process. If this is not what you intend, stop now.You still have Windows XP, right?

I'd love to look at that, but my same excuse for DOSBox: I can't install software on this PC.

Yes, I still have XP. Microsoft Virtual PC creates a virtual environment in which I'm running DOS, kinda like how Daemon Tools creates a virtual CD/DVD for U :) .

Read here for more info on Microsoft's Virtual PC :) .....

Yes, to everyone that is intersested. Kameo has a great point.

I much as I am reluctant to admit microsoft did something right, they did when they released the new Virtual PC software. It makes DosBox insignificant to anyone that uses it, once they get DOS, running on it.

But, If your are not using XP PROFESSIONAL, dont use it. It will install on home edition, but it wont run correctly and it buggy as hell. But on XP Pro, You are gonna be happy! :)

And as for FreeDOS, I have dabbled with it a little, and they are moving in the right direction. THey actually put a lot af hard work into making it as good as it can be, and its been around for a while, so they can be considered a trusted source.:)

Really? Well.. That's cool. I think Freedos is great. BUt I grew up using MS-DOS 6.22 and Apple ProDOS, so I will always be partial to them.

By the way, allow me to note theat just because I like old apple prodos, does not mean i like apple. I hate them and steve jobs can eat a rotten one. Non-gamer hippie artsy-fartsy macs suck. Yeah.. I said it. Sorry to go off topic.

This intrigues me, I may just play with FreeDOS a little more now ;)
