I use an N64 to USB converter. You plug a regular N64 controller into it, then plug the device into the USB port on your laptop. I bought one off ebay for $8 plus $4 shipping. $12 is cheaper then most pc controllers if you already have an N64 controller. If not, N64 controllers are easy to come buy at Game Stop, EB, or Ebay. I love being able to use an orinignal controller, and it works better then any regular pc controller I've used for N64 emulation.

I believe Lik-Sang.com has a similar N64 to USB converter for less than $13, so that may be an option for you. You may check it out here: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=207&products_id=93&lsaid=362012 (http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?category=207&products_id=93&lsaid=362012) (Warning: This is my affilate link, so I will make a commission if you purchase with this link! :))

Yep, thats the same one I have. Works great. Comes with a driver disk, but you shouldn't need it if you are using Windows XP. Just make sure you calibrate the N64 controller using the Game Controllers under the Control Panel, otherwise the joystick will suck.

You can use an XBOX 360 Controller (wired USB) if you're using Windows XP.
Good controller but if you're using P64 EMU you're going to want to download a controller plugin that allows you to adjust the deadzone...the left analogue stick is very sensitive.
There's a plugin that also allows you to set up profiles which are very handy for different types of games. A lot of games don't use the L button so you get some grace there. I recommend setting the Right Analogue as the C buttons for FPS Games. There are also game pads that are inspired by the n64, such as the old MakoPad (we're talkin' pluging into your sound card).
