zelda majoras mask (help me please!)

can sumone please help me out, why cant i assign items to the c buttons on zelda 2? when i press start the menu comes up but when i press left and right, it just changes to the other menus and i cant select the item i need to use. im supposed to give the moon tear to the deku scrub in clock town, but i cant do it because of this. can someone please give me an explanation of how i can solve this problem..

Zelda 2... Phh! It's actually Zelda 5, I think, not counting the handheld zeldas. If you haven't played the old zeldas, u haven't played zelda.

I really don't think he cares, am assuming your using the emulator for it?
Well if you are it sounds too me like your just pressing the L and R buttons, Check with your key controls and highlight an item and press C up,left or right.
