I'd say that MTV and VH1 has done more for the music industry than any artist could ever hope to do.
If I were to pick an artist, I would go by genre
Rock - The Beatles
Classic Rock - Lynard Skynard
Metal - Metalica
Rap/Hip - Bone Thugs N Harmony
Country - Johnny Cash
Funk - James Brown
Techno/Bass - Techmaster PEB
Emo - Green Day
Punk - The Ramones

I'd say Zeppelin did more for rock. I consider the Beatles to be a pop boy band and that Zeppelin was an actual rock group. I know there's a lot of people that are going to disagree with my view but I don't see the difference between the Beatles and Backstreet Boys except for 3 decades of change.

Just my opinion. I don't think Beatles was an actual rock band... The Stones where, though.
MTV and VH1 can suck &%#@.

No way, id say uv only listened to a hards days night. Listen to White Album and Revolver. Paul McCartney has invented loads of bass effects that are used today. They invented reverb which is used in every music genre and have inspired miilions of artists of many genres. Theyre one of the most diverse bands ever id say. Although i do like klendathus view of havin a particular artist thats done the most for each genre

Any one that thinks that the Beatles weren't a real band or didn't have a major impact not just on rock but on musicians of every genre just doesn't know very much about music history at all.
Its like saying that the printing press had no real impact on modernizing our world or that jet engines were no big deal.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion but, damn, I'll just stop there.
