I am trying to run PJ64 1.6 on my laptop. I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 with 2.8GHz P4, 512MB DDR RAM, Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME graphics controller. I have played around with the the settings but can't get more the 40 FPS out of it. I've downloaded the latest graphics driver. It may not be possible to get it to run at 60 FPS, but anyone have any ideas of settings I could use?

P.S. any game I have tried will play fine on my desktop PC so I know its not the game file. I am particularly trying to get Goldeneye to work.

Try reinstalling windows, OR that maybe tough to save your data, but I bet that running a high quality Random Access Memory test may increase the CPUs capability for running display settings. I somehow was able to increase my P4s settings from 8-32 up to 96bits which means that I could run minimal 256colours which most laptops should be able to use. But you may need a lot of memory, my P4 only has 256MB DDR3200 RAM so it runs fast but still for better fps I need at least 1gig total. I have seen it done how laptops run with a external monitor as default that runs a higher hrz that might alow the device to be upgraded and that could solve your resolution problem again laptops display are great, I have a Toshiba Tecra 8200, their displays also depend on the CPU methods of proccesing data. Mine sux for high resolution but it looks great on an external monitor. Im not a IT pro so this may be of no use to anyone.

Yeah, I'm afraid that my problem is not enough RAM plus lack of having an actual video card. How do you go about running a Random Access Memory test?

I'm pretty sure that the graphics chip is your biggest problem. You may want to lowar the emu's resolution to 640x 480 too that might help.

I got a Fujitsu Lifebook with 256 MB of RAM and it runs Goldeneye fine; your problem is elsewhere.:)

Also it is "Ready Access Memory," not "Random Access Memory."

Also it is "Ready Access Memory," not "Random Access Memory. Wrong, it is Random Access Memory, RAM. You're mixing it up with ROM : Read-Only Memory. =P

i had no trouble getting pj64 1.6 to work. i didnt have to change any settings, and it runs at about 60 fps, with some fluctuation (but i only notice because of the fps counter display. diddy kong racing, mk 64, and star fox 64 all run perfectly. im using a 1.73 ghz fujitsu laptop with a gig of ram. my resolution is on 640x480 but it still looks great. try that, and turn anti-aliasing and all that stuff off, for me that was the default setting. if your a big graphics buff you might not like that but i cant tell the difference. like i said, mine worked straight away with the default settings

This is the only time I will be wrong, so savor it!

I remember somewhere it saying Ready Access Memory

Wrong, I know exactly what ROM is and I am not mixing it up!

HEY! Put that tongue back in yer mouth!
Note: If someone stuck out their tongue in such instances in real life, it would be really creepy, no matter how lithe, pink, and thin their tongue is. (I know because my tongue reigns supreme.)

Where ever you seen "ready access memory" then you seen wrong, I have never heard it called that...except by you.

It was in PC's for Dummies.

Your problem is that you only have 512 MB Ram, have integrated graphics, and (I'll bet) are running WinXP.
512 MB is the recommended minimum for WinXP, but your integrated graphics uses some of that RAM too, so you have less than 512 for WinXP when playing games.

And Golden Eye & Perfect Dark are the 2 N64 games the PJ64 runs the slowest, although if your comp is good enough, you can run them at full speed.

You could try 1964 which seems to run better on older/less powerful comps than PJ64:

well, in all fairness, "ready" does make sense. it's ready to be used for whatever purpose it needs to be used for.
