Hi, I'm new to all things emulator. The reason I wanted to try them is so because I have a couple small kids and I would like them to be able to play simple, stable games on my PC. I'm planning on sticking with the Nintendo 64 games and have downloaded a bunch of ROMs.

But there are several different emulators, and nothing listing what the differences are. I plan on running this on a P4 2 GHZ machine with 512 RAM. Which one is best for stability and ease of use?

The poll includes the ones listed on the CoolRom website, but if you have specific advice, please post!

Thanks for any help!

You guys are all wasting your time. I am tired of saying this, but Project64 can't do crap. It won't even let you assign required plugins to certain games, it doesn't have NetPlay, and it doesn't let you export VRML geometry files for editing internally logged geometry from the game. These are all features that other emulators can do, not Project64. The only reason you all think Project64 is the best is because of the rating it has on emulator-zone.com, when really, it actually has relatively the same if not LESS game support, as proven by this list.

http://bmgcl.emuxhaven.net/n64mgcl/N64ConfigList.htm

Therefore, 1964 and Mupen64, together, support 1.5 times as many games as Project64. It"s that simple and not open to debate. The emulator sucks, go home, and stop spreading misinformation on the worldwide web. The only reason emulator-zone gave it a five-star rating was because it was the best emulator for beginners to use, not because it was the best emulator for everyone. The other emulators were either too complicated for beginners to figure out or, for some reason, actually sucked worse than Project64. For their complications, they can be called better than Project64, so their complication is quite necessary. You guys were right to recommend this emulator to newbies, but terribly wrong to call it the best. I hate that, because that tells me that you guys are all newbies, for only newbies are unable to use the other emulators in ways better than Project64.

Also, since this is, like, the fifth time a thread was started on the best N64 emulator, and the user who started this thread doesn't look at this thread anymore, I am closing this thread. No need for it to be open to posting, anymore, since it is a replica of four other threads. As for trying to talk back to me about simple facts, anyone who has an argument with what I've just said above...doesn't know how to argue or is too goddamn retarded to understand that Project64 is not the best and that this is a worldwide web stereotype, so for those people, get a goddamn life.

Well, it's not the best, but I wouldn't say it sucks....
