MAME emulator help please

Right, Ive been trying to emulate mame games using the MAME 32 emulator BUT I just dont no how to use it. If someone could please help me with all areas of this emulator please do. When I say alll areas I aint jokin I just dont have a clue about which one to download or how to play the roms. I also heard youv got to convert he roms into ms dos format or somthing? Is that true and if so I dont no how to do that either?
