You need to have something to discuss before people will respond. A list of three people you consider good bassists isn't exactly the greatest conversation starter.
As far as bassists go, Jaco is probably the best I've ever heard. Portrait of Tracy is such an amazing bass piece I still get goosebumps listening to it.
Cliff Burton is a huge influence in my playing, the guy has been emulated so often and it's easy to see why. Pulling Teeth and countless other live solos prove you don't need a guitar to make people take notice.
Lemmy is amazing. Not the greatest technically for sure but who cares? It's a miracle the man is alive and Motorhead, Eat the Rich and the whole Orgazmatron album are insanely good

Yeah pulling teeth is class. I just love the bass lines Justin Chancellor from tool can play tho. Its class on CD but if you actually see them live (Which i did i wednesday! :p ) Its so f**kin amazing. Pumpkins have a class bass player is well. U gotta rate Robert Trivio too

Michael James of Explosions in the Sky - this band plays the most amazing stuff in the instrumental postrock genre. Even though the songs have no lyrics they emote so much.
Colin Edwin of Porcupine Tree - a lot of these progrock band`s songs would be ridiculously incomplete without Colin`s bassline.
Tim Commerford from RATM & Audioslave.
Justin Chancellor of Tool.
Billy Howerdel - founding member of APC, and also main guitarist and bassist.
Jeff Ament - Pearl Jam.

Best bass player? Is that a question?
STEVE HARRIS
He's the heart and soul of the world's greatest metal band. World's greatest band. Up yours, Beatles, Elvis, Rolling Stones, The Doors, you rock, but next to Maiden you're nothing.
