When i download A rom that Ive never played before I think it would be usefull if there was A review to read before I bother with it. Now allmost no rom sites have this and I think it would be somthing that cool rom could use to make it unique against some of its competitors. This is like the screenshots myself and chaos master are helping with, not A difficult task but A time consuming one. So I will be more than happy to write some reviews for some of the roms on the site if you think this is somthing the site could benafit from?

I'll help out, when I have some spare time, that is.

I could write some good reviews for the ROMs I have had for awhile and are familiar with...

hey, aren't you supposed to be in ownership of the game your downloading the ROM for anyway;)

a review section would be good just for fun, but it may promote illegal downloading of ROMs people don't got the game for, which is something coolROM doesn't want, as stated in the agreement we make when we enter the ROM DL section

Well, that is true to some extent ;). Reviews are just reviews, and don't break any laws, so it is completely up to the person to comply with copyright laws.

well then, are you going to accept reviews?

I think its a good idea but you should have some criteria and good moderation if you want them to be worth while.
Some thing like insisting that the review be given an overall score and that the game be also scored on individual components such as Story line, gameplay, graphics, and the fun factor/replay value.
Other wise you could end up with a bunch of reviews like
----------------------------------------
Finle Fanbasy III. This game kicks ass! Its got like magic and chicks and everyon thinks its realy cool and stuf! Oh yea, its got funy birds to. Thetre real funy. lolololoz
----------------------------------------------
Just a sugestion.

Yes, I think there would be too many stupid reviews like the example in Elric's post. If a person wants a review for a game they can go to ign.com or a similar site. A simple review where people could rate gameplay ect. from 1 to 10 like in Elric's example would work.

A review section about the quality of a rom wouldn't be a bad idea though such as if there are any gliches/bugs in the rom, what emulator it would work best with, what emu settings would be best ect. things of that nature. So more of a ROM review section instead of a game review section.

You could also provide a link to a game review such as this link for a FF3 review > http://www.nintendoland.com/home2.htm?reviews/snes/ff_3.htm

SOmething like the reviews I use to write would be nice. Here's an example:

"Megarace review:
Ok, lets see... Great FMVs with real actors... check! Great cd-quality musics... check! Great gameplay... oops!
The main problem with the sega CD is that the softhouses thought they could just put some FMVs and cd musics in any crappy game and it would sell like wather!
Anyway, this is a racing game with a diferent aproach. Instead of just racing, you have to blow the other cars with missels and other weapons. One interesting thing is that everything happens like it was a TV show. Actually you ARE a participant on a TV show! The host, Lance Boyle is funny and make some nice comments about you. Its fun to watch all the FMVs, but its not all that fun to play the game... Anyway, this could be a great game, but...

1. Graphics: Ok, the graphics are ok. There are some nice looking things here, like the explosions and the smoke... but the cars... Oh, my god! They look like old matchboxes with wheels; they look like they are from some nes8bit game! And the tracks also look weird. They have a weird color, and the pixels are too big. The FMVs on this game are VERY nice looking though... It seems the producers spent soo much time with the FMVs, that they forgot the rest! (score: 5/10)

2. Sound: The sounds are... repetitive as hell! There are not many sound samples, you'll get tired of hearing the same sounds over and over again. On the FMVs, the sounds are great though. (Lance Boyle has a funny voice!!) The musics on the game are quite good. Most of them are techno, so if you like this type of music, you'll love the ones here! Still, since the sounds are too damn repetitive, you'll probably press 'mute' on your TV after some minutes... (sound 5/10)

3. Gameplay: Oh, the weakest part on this game. This game is ssssssssslllllllllloooooowwwwwwww... VERY slow! Like I've said before, your cars look like matchboxes... and they move like matchboxes. The control sucks, it takes 10 days just to move your car from the left to the right!!! Shooting also is not very good. You have to press the fire button some seconds earlier, since the controls don't respond imediatelly... Near the end, the car tends to get faster, since your car is better equipped. But, since the gameplay sucks, this just makes the game hard!! (score: 3/10)

4. Size: Ok, something almost good here; this game is a bit long. There are 16 tracks here, and they are quite big. And if you take your time to watch the FMVs, you'll be 'playing' for hours, maybe days! The replay value is low, since there's nothing new the second time around. But there are two secret tracks and two difficulty settings, so playing a second time could be interesting... (score: 6/10)

5. Fun-factor: Though this game is not that good, for some reason I actually had a bit of a fun with it. Maybe 'cause blowing cars is actually fun, doesn't matter in wich game! The FMVs are fun to watch, its impossible not to crack a smile with Lance Boyle and his stupid comments. This game is a good movie, but not that good as a game... (score: 6/10)

Overall: This is a weak game. The producers spent so much time with the movies, but they neglected the game itself. Thats too bad... Take a look though. You may enjoy it. Still, this game could be A LOT better! (final score: 4/10)"

*claps*

well, that was good.
I FELT STRONG EMOTION THINGIES FLOWING FROM IT LIKE THE ELEGANT MANE OF A HORSE ABOUT TO CARRY ITS MASTER INTO A FIERCE BATTLE!!

I say, If you get your point across, then it is a good review.

On the site would be easier to browse through than on the forum, maybe a cheat section as well?? Or atleast one that has Game Genie/Game Shark codes :)...
