Looks like Sony completely bet on the wrong horse.

Overall this test was to see what next gen game system player is superior, and based on these tests, I would have to say that the 360 add on is the clear winner. Movies on the Blu Ray do look great, but with color levels that are more even allowing for greater levels of clarity, HD DVD just looks better, even over component cables.

Yeah, personally, I see Blue-Ray, as the Next "BetaMax". So far the whole scene has been nothing but bad news.

I agree with DB, sceptin there is a slight chance it will win IF the PS3 picks up momentum and starts moving faster. If theres a PS3 basically every home then that means they all have a blueray dvd player. <.< which could spell trouble for the HD-DVD players. Specially since you have to pay roughly 200 dollars to get an add on to the xbox to play movies and even more money for a stand alone player.

We got a good magazine in Germany called SFT. That stands for Spiele (games), Filme (movies), Technik (technology, just if you didn't suggest this one). They do reviews of nearly everything related with this.

They had an article about Xbox 360°, Playstation 3 and Video Players. The recommendation of this mag, was to wait untill theres a player for both formats. I think, they're right. Regarding to the fact the PS3 does do BR-DVD, it doesn't HD. The 360 does HD with the extra drive you have to import to germany for about 300$, but there mostly won't be a BR-drive. So for the people who like movies: The quality of a movie always depends on the format, not the medium it's recorded to. Well complainig for the digital types as a 0 is a 0 and a 1 is a 1 (I thought about this sentence when people tried to tell about quality losses when copying CDs... :mad2:). So the quality aspects are explained as follows:

The standard PAL system resolutions:
768x576 (Standard TV set)
1280x720 (HD-Ready or low resolution HDTV a.k.a. 720p)
1920x1080 (HDTV a.k.a. 1080i)

It is logical that you have some quality differences on the screen of the different sets. If you watch 1080i-DVD on a 720p-set and the other way even, you get a quality loss regarding to the lower/higher amount of rows displayed. Therefore the image of the movie looks a bit buggy. The sites I requested for this information also wrote, that the HD-DVD contains mostly 720p and the BR-DVD contains 1080i movies. That means, you have to buy the movies, consoles or TVs regarding to the formats you want to use. I recommend the Blue Ray technique, as it will be the future because of the amount of recordable data.

So therefore you could wait for Hitachis "HD-BR-DVD and everything else" player coming out end of this year. Or just wait another year or two, so this players are purchasable to a fair price.

throwing this out there - you cant use 720p cables to judge a 1080 signal...

This convo is squashed, the real battle isn't even about anything Disc based, it's about anything digitaly dl wise, and wich can provide more for the money.

CDs allready seem like they're still that elephant in the room, that nobody is trying to get rid of.

I would so rather keep a game for more than 4 or 5 years without even dust itself scratching the surface of them and destroying them.

i still have nes carts that could play after you dropped a nuke on them.

I could probably test that if you give me the Materials =D
