well go to options and somewhere there will be a config for your controller although i have never seen it say the controller needs to be connected even if it isnt set game maybe?

You don't need a controller. You change the keys around in configure controller.
Initially the controls are as follows:
z-z
x-a
c-b
a-l
s-r
arrow keys-control stick
page down- c right
end- c down
delete- c left
home- c up
4, 8, 6, and 2 on the numberpad- d pad
f1- reset
f4-speed up framerate\limit framerate
f3-screenshot
there is probably more f keys involved that I can't remember right now
also, you can play awkward multiplayer by configuring 2 or more controllers

That would be so funny...but I think I've done that before...can't remember. But I do remember me and my brother playing star craft 64 on the system and we put some card board in the middle of the screen lol. I didn't want him to cheat. lol

does you computer have a game port? if it doesnt it might need one, and if it does, it might be reading it and you may have to uninstall that device so the emulator does look for it.
