I recently started reading the most fascinating book I've ever read. All of my explanations are on FD's forum. Feel free to discuss them here.
Chapter 1: The Fourth Dimension (http://emulysianfields.110mb.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1853&postcount=2)

I see, so basicaly each dimension is the previous dimendion of the last and the fourth dimension is beyond comprehension. So isn't it possible to have more dimensions beyond comprehension?

So isn't it possible to have more dimensions beyond comprehension? There are more. M-theorists believe that there are 10 dimensions (My numbers were off) They didn't pick this number for no reason; there is some very specific mathematical reason that they have 10.
But the reason the 4th dimension is so vital, and the reason we are almost 100% sure it exists, is due to Einsteins theory of relativity and the curved spacetime/gravity stuff. I haven't gotten that far in the book, but when I do I will be sure to update. I don't know about you guys, but I find this stuff to be fascinating.

I guess... That is if you're head doesn't explode. Also, ten huh? That's a LOT of directions for each dimension... Or am I confused?

I guess... That is if you're head doesn't explode. Also, ten huh? That's a LOT of directions for each dimension... Or am I confused? There are differences for all the dimensions, not all of them are directional... (trust me I'm just as confused as you) I haven't read much on the M-Theory yet, so I can't answer all of your questions yet. I have no idea why the different dimensions are supposed to exist, with the exception of the 4th. The fourth dimension, we know exists, because of the curvature of space in the third dimension. (yeah I don't understand it exactly yet, but just trust me) Basically, if Einsteins theory of relativity is correct (and it IS, 50 years of scientists bustin their assess off trying to prove it wrong have yet to disprove it), then the 4th dimension HAS to exist.
How terribly confusing am I being right now?

Not very. Oh, that might explain why light is defracted in water then right?

Not very. Oh, that might explain why light is defracted in water then right?Light being refracted (not defracted) isn't a product of anything grand. Light moves at a certain speed depending on its medium (what its traveling through) Light traveling through empty space moves the fastest. When light enters the atmosphere, it slows down slightly, and that slowdown causes a bend in the light that is slightly visable. When light travels from air to water, or even air to glass, it slows down even more.
Want to hear something awesome though? Did you know that light is actually affected by gravity?

No, I didn't know that... Did you know flippers, forelegs, flippers, and wings of different mammals are variations on a common structural theme?

Whoa! Those are some LONG videos, and so many!I can't wait to get to read about M theory... looks sweet.
I'll probably check out those movies then.
And yes, actually I do believe I knew that Majora.

My theory:
If there really is a fourth dimension, it isn't here because I can't see it, as I believe in what I see and therefore refuse to belive the earth is round until I've been around it.
So this fourth dimension must be somewhere in a galaxy far away. There might be a four-dimensional world somewhere. In that case, there could very well be a two-dimensional world. Now THAT'D be cool. That's where I wanna go.
Oh, and by the way, I actually read what you wrote on EF, I pretty much understood it and I know it totally goes against my "theory" :D
I wonder if it's possible to simulate the fourth dimension in a computer?

Those aren't fourth-dimensional objects... They're just unrealistically bendable three-dimensional objects.

there is a big loophole when we try to define how many dimensions our universe has. There is actually no limit of how many dimensions there can be, at this point we believe what..11? this is because we know of 11 dimensions that may exist. For all we know there is an infinite amount of dimensions, but sure enough it is not a finite amount.
infinite is physically and mathematically possible. in every aspect of physics.
Mans greatest downfall in expanding our knowledge of space is the simple
concept of infinity.

I am surprised No one mentioned The Tesaract the four dimensional Hypercube Building block encompassing Length, Width, Height, and Time(In my opinion this is a moot point because time is irrelevant and is a man made concept to keep from going "crazy" like people who are out of sync with reality never Knowing Where, When, and What they are at any given moment, for you are not really part of anyone given reality, but part of all constantly shifting, I also believe in infinite possibilities anything that can happen will happen it is in whether it happens in your reality or one of the other for there is a different path for every choice anyone has ever made or will make... I am sorry if anyone doesn't like my view)

If time does exist, only a god could traverse it, since humans are bound by the laws of time if real.

That is what I said in a time travel thread last year that time is nothing more than a concept we as humans give meaning to. Also one should note and has not been mentioned in this thread is the exsiten of the mutiverse or interdimensional travel thought worm holes to a parrall (and yes my spelling is bad) earth. To a earth unlike our own.
