I looked down at the site stats and noticed that the difference between the number of total members and the number of active members has increased dramatically.

why is this and what exactly is an inactive member?

It means that there have been 541 people who signed up and that 446 of them made a post ;)...

Maybe if a person doesn't make a post in a month, they become inactive, but that's just a guess.

I think "inactive" means that the user account exists, but the user owning it is not logged in.

Did Y'all not read this? The person is inactive until they make atleast one post. A person could have an account for weeks, log in everyday, but still be an inactive member if they have a post count of zero. On the other hand, a person could make an account, post one reply, then not log in again for a really long time, but that person would be an active member. I have no idea how long an active member would have to go without logging in before they go inactive though.

I don't think that is right because there were a whole bunch of 0 post accounts before and there were only 2 inactive users. This was back when ridley was away due to his virus problem.

Hmm, could be. I never pay attention. I just figured that it would take like a year of someone not logging in to be inactive. SOmetimes I sign up for a site, go months without using it and then sign in six months later. Since this the forums hasn't been up for very long, I figured no one would be inactive due to not logging in.
