Something I've been pretty interested in this last year... Is there any particular style any of you are familiar with?
I have a thing for ninjutsu, the art of war. They teach you the most effective way to manipulate (eventually kill) your opponent using very little amount of strength. All you need is a bit of intelligence and awareness to learn the art. A combination of swft, simple movements from your body will do the rest. Very, very violent. You'd never lose a fight again if you learn this martial art, I promise you that. It's absolutely crazy... It's also full contact. In a real scenario you'd know how to apply what you've learned quite easily having tried it out full force on your partner already. Eventually, the pain just becomes your friend because of all the full contact training. :D

Funny you mention, I just started taking martial arts like 3 weeks ago! :D
I take Tae Kwon Do in the traditional style, mixed with a little jujitsu and judo self defense techniques.
Like you said, the jujitsu/judo self defense techniques dont require as much physical strength to execute, but could be lethal (or at least "mortally wounded") very easily if you wanted them to be.
But the class is 95% tae kwon do, and I am finding very fast that I am one very out of shape geek. lol. Some of the training I have had so far physically, has been the hardest thing phsically I have ever done in my life. VERY Painful.
But all around, I love it, and can't wait to start getting better.I train every tuesday and thursday, and practice my moves whenever I can. Soon I will be taking my first "belt test".

Cool. Ninjitsu. I've been doing karate for four and a hlaf years now. I'm Going for my black belt this november 2007, and then I'm starting Jiu Jitsu. I want to learn more styles.
Its a great thing to learn, keeps me off the computer haha. I like going to the tournaments and crushing people. Im undefeated :P. Never lost a fight yet, except agains this black belt who was like 40 but it was a practice fight and I just had two fights right before so I was tired. Anyhow, still would have got my *** kicked haha.
my favorite kick is tornado kick, Im really good at it. Anyone else have a favorite kick?

I noticed that the first time around too, but now I can pull off 60 pushups on my knuckles and 200 situps. We have to do it for our black belt test :P
Plus theres the fighting and kicking and what not. Good luck on your belt test, the first one is always the easiest. You go for your green first in your style or something like that right? In karate your first belt is white then yellow.

WOW, I cannot do 60 on my knuckles yet. But I am trying to do more.
The Tae Kwon Do style we do the belts are pretty similar to Karate. We start off white, then yellow and orange then green, and so on..
FINALLY got my Gi uniform today, it took forever. I'm sure nobody forgets the first time they put that thing on. Good ole' stiff canvas feeling. But after I while, I found it to be very comfortable.

Yes, its loose enough for air to get in, but not so that it falls off.
I get a special Gi when i get my black belt, ares are normally red , and we wear blk pants along with it, at black belt, we were black gi's with white and yellow black pants at the sempai level..
Are the ranks the same for you?

I don't know any arts, but, I practice stuff that I learn about, or see people do in person, or on TV or something. I know little bits of Ju Jitsu, and a lot of techniques that use the opponents strength and weight against them. I certainly do enjoy it. I can do like 120 or so push ups, and I usually stop there, because that's a pretty high number. Also, in sparring, I can beat my friends, and one of them is a 4th degree blackbelt in tai kwon dao. He's qualified to open his own dojo, and is going to get his 5th soon. But, if we use staffs or swords, he kicks my ***. So, I need to learn an art there. I eventually want to know both Ju Jitsu and Akido, that way I'll have both an internal and an external, and pretty much the best ones, at that. I'll also finish learning wrestling, so, I'll be pretty well rounded. If anyone knows any good ways to learn martial arts without being able to afford an instructor, let me know. :)

Taekwon-do for me. My instructor has some seriously hardcore drills. I also go overseas to attend training camps and tournaments. Very physical heh im very slim but some of my kicks can knock just about anyone back (including the big strong ones) even when holding a shield.
The belts over here go white, yellow, green, blue, red, black and theres a grade in between each belt represented with a tag on the end of the belt in the colour of the next belt up. e.g. Yellow belt, green tag.

duh lol. Karate is probably the mascott for martial arts. Just ask anyone random person about martial arts and they'll probably mention it as being karate.
Why do you do karate?

I start Kenpo in a month, so I'll have to see how I like that. I tried Jui jitsu for a bit but i wrestle in college and wasn't cool with being on my back.

I'm really good at boxing, and I'm looking for a class to teach ju jitsu. i already know a few moves with ju jitsu and i really like that style. i also want to learn a little bit of kick boxing, i'm been practising it by myself basing it off stuff i see on TV but i dont know if i'm doing it all right so i want to take classes for that sometime in the futer to.
