Are there any emulators for Mac OSX?

I'd really like to find an emulator that is mac compatible. Any ideas? :confused:

An emulator for what system? I don't know of any emus for macs, but then again, I don't use a Mac. Can't you get a program to emulate Windows OS on a mac though, so that you can run any windows program on a mac? I don't know what its called, but I am pretty sure there is a program like that out there for macs.

Well...do you know about MS-DOS? If computers boot in DOS mode whether they have Windows or not, maybe computers with MAC do. And there is a way to emulate in DOS mode to a limit. If you don't know about DOS, forget I brought it up. You don't want to know.

What is your obsession with DOS? The only thing dos is useful for now days is booting up in it to format a HDD, maybe some pinging and network stuff. Nothing your average home users really needs to know about. There is something called a Mac DOS card that I think is used to to run DOS on a mac, but its a seperate peice of hardware that you'd have to buy.

The thing I mentioned eariler is a X86 Emulator, or Virtual PC. I don't know if they are free or you have to buy them, but they allow you to install windows only programs on a Mac and run them.

Jambog, I've learned a fair much about DOS. If that's the only way to play video games on a Mac PC, then do it. That's why I suggested it. Why do I like DOS? Again, the madness touches me. Oh, feel the insanity flow.... Then again, I just like it for God sake. Don't ask why. It was just a suggestion, merely one that might actually work. And I'm not entirely obsessed with it, you understand. DOS does things that you can't direct in Windows, more powerful than shortcut files. That's about as obsessed with DOS as I get is in its unique abilities outside of Windows. As I've said, if you don't know about DOS, forget about it.

I'm just saying, I've never met anybody that uses or really even knows anything about DOS except maybe network people or programmers. If someone is computer savvy enough to do computer networking/programming then they could figure out how to use an emulator. The people who use this forum are average, probably below average computer users who just want to play same old nintendo game. They probably haven't even heard of DOS, more less how to use it. Keep suggesting it if you want, but I think it probably confuses people more then it helps them. They have a GUI emulator for every system now I think.

The only thing to mention DOS for is MAME since there is a MAME version that you need to use DOS to compile, but now they have MAME32, so you don't even need to use DOS for that anymore.

Knowledge of DOS has nothing to do with knowledge of emulation. Saying that people here R average is downright stupid. I dare to say that I know a ****load more about emulation than U do, not to mention the knowledge Remorse possesses.

Screw DOS dude, this isn't 1996, it's 2006.

U seriously need to stop mentioning DOS in every thread people seek help in, it's not going to help them in any way so why even bring it up?? Learn about the Win32 versions if U want to help them out, all U do is confuse people with Ur nonsense about DOS.

Obviously the gurus know about how to use emulators, especially you Kameo, I have no doubt you know more about it then I do. I meant that most of the newbies that come here and ask for help aren't computer experts. I've helped newbies get started with emulators that didn't even know how to unzip a file. I meant that a lot of newbies that come here and ask something like "How do I get emulators to work?" are just average home computer users. Most, if not all, of the established members of this site know alot more then the average computer user. Either way, I didn't mean the gurus, I meant newbies. Sorry if I offended you.

And I agree, if you want to help people with emulators Iconclast, then learn the Win32 versions, DOS is just gonna confuse people. You should only mention anything about DOS if someone asks how to use it to compile MAME or if they want to use a DOS emu to play some old DOS games.

It takes more than that to offend me but to say all users here R average or below average PC users includes me and Remorse as well. I can't exactly say the two of us R average users ;).

But yea, most people who visit this place R obviously from the 90's, they didn't grow up with the old C64 and such, for them there was no DOS, there's Windows for them only. Mentioning DOS isn't going to help them in anyway, it's pretty much useless information for them as they probably don't even know what a commandline is, I had quite some PM's from someone if I was able to send him one :rolleyes:. That should say it all :p. Please stick to mentioning the W32 versions only, they can't handle DOS...

Well offended or not, I should have chosen my words more carefully and not used the word "people" thereby referring to all members of the forum including gurus. I would consider all gurus, some newbies and emulation wannabes of this forum to be far more knowledgeable then the average pc users. I was referring more to newbies who join to ask questions as being the average pc user who doesn't know what the hell DOS is.
