Anyone have a writeup on how to wire the 64 controller to a usb cord?

I'm not talking about getting an adapter....

wow this could be intersting
if you do find a writeup please let me no how it goes:)

Why not just get an adaptor they are only $10?

If you were really interested in building your own I could draw up a schematic from the one I bought, but buying electronics parts can usually only be done by buying them in bulk so by the time you bought the parts and breadboard to make it (not to mention probably having to tear an old N64 apart to get the port plug) you would save time and money just buying an adaptor.

They don't look to hard to make if you have any experience in electronics

1 20pin IC, 7 resistors, 2 zener diodes, 3 capacitors, 2 LEDs, 1 switch and a partridge in a pear tree. Not to mention the PS1 and N64 controller ports. Like I said you generally have to buy resistors and capacitors in bulk and ICs although usually not expensive, can be hard to track down the right one.

Do yourself a favor and just buy one here >

Well, I looked for a schematic for ****s and giggles and it took me all of 3 minutes to find one. Did you not even bother to look on google before posing this thread? Anyway, not a very detailed schematic and it doesn't give a part number to the USB controller, but the part number on the one my adapter is CY7C63000A and its a 20pin just like the one in this schematic so they are probably the same one. This is alot different then the way the one I bought is built, but then again the one I bought uses PSX controller too.

I tried to make a parrellel port interface one time... I wound up spending about 20$ in parts, which took about 3 weeks to find, and it turned out the damn thing didn't even work anyway. My 2 cents... option 1, buy a USB adapter and a n64 pad. When I tried the parrellel port thing, they're weren't many adapters available, in fact, they were few emu's for N64 ;-). option 2, find a PC gamepad that has enough buttons and use it. I have seen many knockoff gamepads for PS 1 and 2(gravis gamepad pro is exact as ps1 i think), and I am pretty sure Interact made a "makopad" that merged the three "handles" of the n64 pad into 2. I am sure someone makes sometime of aftermarket PC gamepad that you could prob find on ebay for 10-15 bucks.

If you are feelin frisky, I found this site on how to make one...

Pretty sure the above schematic was from this site.

Exactly my point, if you are planning on doing this to try to save money, you probably won't, just buy the adaptor for $10. If you want to do it just for something to do, or for a school project, then well, now you have the schematic so build it. Good luck trying to find the IC chip for it though.

EDIT: I've looked a little more into this and CY7C63000A-PC is the correct part number for the IC, the bad news...its a microcontroller which means you need a PIC programmer to hook it to your pc, then you need to learn how to program it (if you don't already know) Here is the site I found the schematic on, it has the source code to program the IC>

Yeah, I checked this link out, it is the same schematic and source code on the link I gave, but this one does have a link to buy preprogrammed ICs...unfortunately when you click the link to buy them it says "This site is currently under investigation, any email sent to this site will be investigated"

WHOA, that's scary... Maybe a disaster happened and 300 are dead...

*runs around screaming like a pansy*

Just buy it like jambog said and you won't end up a statistic...

hmmm, that looks tricky, I swear I saw a detailed writeup with pics before, where they just cut the cords open and spliced them together.....

Yeah, I am pretty sure that is impossible. You would have to have some sort of USB controller so that 64 controller could communicate with the PC. If you want to use an N64 controller on your PC why not just buy the the adaptor? that $10 includes shipping. the adaptor is $6.99 + $3.00 shipping and no tax so $9.99 you can't go wrong. Plus you can use the N64 controller for all emulators, I use it for NES, SNES, Gameboy/advance, Sega, N64 can be configed to work with all of them well.

You may be thinking of a Playstation or SNES LPT interface. I saw a few sites that used diodes to connect the gamepad cable to a db-25 connector, then used directpad pro software to use the LPT port. Can't remember the name of the site though.
