Help me with the Atari 2600's Adventure

I have Stella, and I got Adventure so I could try it out, as it is reportedly the first game with an "Easter Egg" in it. Problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to play it. Ditto for Asteroids. It's not my system or anything, because The Adventures of Tron plays fine. Help?

Probably a emulation issue or a faulty ROM. Try using MESS, it's the equivalent of MAME, but then for consoles. U can get it at www.mess.org ...

I have used stella and after I load a rom I have to hit the "\" key then hit reset in the menu that comes up then a rom will work. I don't think you can configure the controls either, you can only use Spacebar for the fire button and the arrow keys for direction buttons. I'm gonna check out this MESS you speak of....
