This is the thread on the subject of CoolROM, mostly the forums. Discuss.

The way things are going, it seems the forums are going downhill. People have started going back to school, and the events of today made some people leave. A lot of "regulars" have their own sites now. I think today is a low point for activity. CoolROM is based on links between people that go there as much as it is for the ROMs and support. It bred some sort of freaky teenage cult who helped each other get instant gratification. A lot of what keeps CoolROM going is that the people who have spent time here don't want to leave it. CoolROM is a lot more personal than joining a larger forum.

Also, some people here **** me off. I'm not gunna lie.

Well, yeah the forums are going downhill, and, granted, we're all trying keep it from happening, but, the only person who can impose real rules and actually code stuff here is admin, and he's not here. Add/remove forums, make clear rules for what is allowed and what is not, aside form just catering to what everybody wants. Otherwise, this place is going to get 4chanish, and I totally won't come back.

Well, instead of acting like a bunch of ****ing babies U all might wanna start respecting each other and talk about it instead of fighting each other. What good does fighting bring?? It'll only destroys more than it creates.


Stop using Ur mod. powers as it's obvious it does more wrong than good. I'll point that out to Admin. We have too many mods and they all want a piece of the pie, this is the result.


I say it has to stop. Now. And I'm not joking. Try me and I'll **** the lot of U off by deleting everything. And I really mean everything. Not just merging or soft deleting. It'll all be gone. Call me power abusive if U want but all this playing with those threads is what lead to this. Once deleted there's nothing left to fight about, might be a good solution. :mad3:

I really don't know. I honestly haven't been here in like, a week, and I'm only here because I was told something needed to be resolved. If it doesn't stop, I'm all for deleting everything,it'd give it all a fresh start. Just don't delete the emulation documents and stuff. There are some good guides in there, and after all, that SHOULD be what these forums are about.

Mass Pruning won't do anything, it'll just lead to more arguments. Just delete Random Info, and the stuff that came afterwards and leave it at that.

Also, I'm pretty sure admin doesn't actually know about any of this, and if he came to the site and found that a load of stuff was deleted, it wouldn't be a nice surprise.

Why? It didn't cause anything. It was just the fact that there were 2 threads that were the same and people disagreed. No point going on a 'cleaning spree' since it wastes time and nobody actually cares about spam threads. Hell, you could even just get admin to rename "General Chat" to "Spam" and everything will be fine.
People need a place to fit random crap because it's what makes the forum fun. General Chat gets high traffic for a reason.

Well, it's CoolROM. The site is mostly about ROMs, and the forums are supposed to be for helping with emulation issues as far as I can tell. As I said, General Chat should be allowed, but, it shouldn't revolve around it, and this shouldn't be a site about teenage gamer drama.

It's a community, it happens in all forums. There's a large Emulation section with a fairly decent number of boards (Despite them being a bit wide-range) if you want to talk about ROMs. All of the other boards are for other topics to discuss just for the sake of it. Forums with a single topic don't go down well.

And it doesn't really revolve around General Chat since it's only used by the regular users here. All new members join because they want to know something about Emulation.

Yeah, but, out of today, how many topics have you seen about emulation? Not to mention, something definitely needs to be done about the general chat thing, and I definitely think we need some sort of rules. General chat shouldn't really be able to be off-topic, but, there should be a clear definition of how to not let it get, with like 50 topics about nothing.

That's got nothing to do with General Chat, it's to do with the board's activity and the fact that there are stickied threads that tell a lot about Emulation in the first place.
The regulars don't make threads about Emulation because most of us already know what we want to know and duplicating threads is looked down upon. We know this and know not to do it. The majority of the people that actually make emulation threads are newbies that want to know something, and when there are no newbies, there are no threads.

General Chat for the win. Make a sticky for people to post whatever they want and enforce the rules for threads that have no topic.

That's just the thing, we don't have a good set of rules yet, and admin isn't here to clear all this up. We don't want to set up a whole system that is going to conflict with everything admin had in mind, although, it could be argued that he should be here. Either way, Kameo intends to merge all the retarded threads with what was formerly random info, and general chat will stay in there. It's just the fighting and the disorganized mess, topic-wise, that is bad, not the actual chatting.

Well moderating is kinda sticky sometimes. I mean, if we have strict rules, they'll get in the way of our fun. If we have lenient rules, then people get away with too much. And if we have selective rules, well that's just wrong.
Plus, we have a lot more mods than needed. And a mod isn't guaranteed to be right or intelligent about a subject, especially mods in CoolROM. And mods might have different opinions and wants. Conflict sucks.
Just compromise and learn to live with ****.

Who's compromising here? I keep suggesting things, and everybody keeps telling me no. That's not very compromising. That's why I end up just telling you all what to do.
