View Full Version : How to be politically correct?

Hmmm... Let us say something more "relevant" this time.
I hate political correctness in language. That is to say, I do avoid racial slur, words heavily insulting to religious or ethnic groups, etc., but I will not stop using words like mankind just because it has the "man" instead of a more neutral word in it.
You can't use gay in a sentence anymore without adding "not that there's anything wrong with that", you can't be an atheist because you're immediately an Antichrist... (and be excommunicated if you live in my country)
Now the whole political correctness has been brought up to be more respectable to others and to generally make the world a better place to live or whatever...
My question is did the whole Political correctness actually achieve what it was set out to do or did it make us afraid to state our own opinions?

For the most part,it's made people either check every word or a racist/sexist or homophobe, even though most aren't.
I want to say though,i have no problem with atheism or for that matter scientology, just as long as you respect mine as well,as martin luther king jr. would say"we were all born equal".

as martin luther king jr. would say"we were all born equal".
Or as Evel Knievel (RIP) said, "God made all men, and Remingtons and Luisville made them equal."
By trying to be PC all we really do is draw attention to the fact that we are different and therefore discriminate even more.

i hate how everyone try to be politically correct. it slows down the world from seeing the truth about things there for slowing down our progress in becoming not stupid.
for example- for years we've been telling the 'hey don't drop the soap' joke about prisons. sure it is funny, really funny actually. but there really is that poor guy out there that really is getting raped in jail. but everyone wants to be all politically correct and no one will come out and say "hey, theres dudes getting raped in jail we gotta stop this." the poor mother ****er got sentenced to being locked up and jailed from society, he didn't get sentenced to blow off some black dudes **** in prison. and until we get someone who will come out and say that publicly to the nation it aint never going to change.
same thing with the over obesity in the country. no one is telling these fat mother ****ers to get off their asses, eat healthy, and do some excersize. because the second you say that your being unpolitacly correct and harassing someone about their waight, your an *** hole and sometimes it may lead to you getting sued.
anyway, thats just to name a few examples. point is we gota stop being all afraid to offend people and start being more realistic otherwise things wont change.
so, theres my intelligent little thing. i aint have one of those in a while >.>

To me, political correctness is nothing more than caution. I see nothing wrong with the idea that hatred should not be aroused from an educational book, even though hatred can be, at times, suffering out of ignorance. You can still be politically correct and mention a lot of things. If you mention your personal beliefs without what I am understanding that is here-named as "political correctness", you can seem foolish while possibly not giving any reasons. It is possible, by contrast, to explain why people should get some exercise by using just factual information that cannot be debated with justification instead of religiously ranting without meaning.
Also, even my posts are not nearly politically correct. Observe substitution of the terms within an English sentence written in what I consider as algebraic (shorthand) notation.
"The time-transitional turn towards the twentieth century—commonly named the turn of the century (perhaps the range of years 1870 to 1910)—was a climactic setting for one of the more business purpose related questions: Were business leaders generally robber barons or captains of industry?"
Some people will dislike or not understand why I wrote "business purpose related" instead of "business-purpose-related". Logically, one might attempt to avoid the religious wars caused by this writing by revising the sentence extensively.
"The timely transition towards the twentieth century, whose connotation used in this essay is the time between the year 1870 and the year 1910, was a climactic setting for one of the questions of high regard to business purpose: Were business leaders generally robber barons or captains of industry?"
The comma symbol can also be evaded. Maybe someone wrote a forum site that charges you for rape every time you use the comma symbol. Also, "timely"? x is a non-3 term instead of x does not have a value of 3? Non-false instead of true? The official alternative term "nonconvex" to "concave" when describing polygons? And now, the annoying universal suffic "-ly" making timely an adverb. To avoid picking up bricks next to your broken window, you carefully revise these and other parts of the sentence.
"The transition of time towards the twentieth century that the author of this essay haveth connote as the time between the year whose value is one thousand eight hundred seventy and the year whose value is one thousand nine hundred ten was a setting of climax for one of the questions of high regard to business purpose. Were business leader (...bah, without the s) robber barons in general or captains of industry in general?"
Start replacing terms with their strict definitions using terms such as "like, as, the, it" and so on, watch out for the grenade launchers.
