Did you increase the screen size?
It will cause it to lag unless you put it into full screen or leave it at 1x size.

Oh yeah! Fullscreen works best with any emulator! It can be considered as an emulatin rule. If can go fullscreen do it. If it lags, turn the resolution down.

Hmm, funny. How do you do full screen, there's only 3 sizes, 1x, 1.5x, 3x.
My game lags too. If i do any bigger than 1x, the lag gets worse.

thanks for the tips, but it is still lag on 1x.
I use 1x at all the time and it is still lag.
how to make it work faster??
My computer is XP
i mean...come on! My computer can play GTA SA smoothly but can't even work good on a little emulator??

Alt+enter will give you fullscreen resolution.

What version of SSF are you using?
I'd track down SSF.009 ver.R4 if you can, though any version of the 009 type will run faster.

Sorry to hijack your thread again, NT. Just that the my problem seems to be same as yours, so it's better to keep in one thread.
I've tried the full screen with .009 ver R2, R3, R4, I still get lag...

What games are you running?
I remember nights running kinda slow because of compatibility.
So it would help to know what games your playing.

Guardian heroes is extremely notorious for being hard to run, you can only run it in SSF ver.008 (not sure the code) and you have to skip the second stage by using the cheat code(check gamefaqs), since it freezes up after beating the blue ogre.
There's a way to get it to run properly, but you need to track down alot of expensive software.
If you don't mind the music, i think yabause(i believe that's what it's called) will run with SERIOUS sound problems and a few graphical errors but play fine.

I've tried all 3 scenarios of Shining Force 3, castlevania, shining the holy ark. All of 'em lags, so I doubt it's the game?
Do you need my pc specs and ssf configs?
I might just quit trying if it's my lappy.

Well, there's a trick to speeding it up(i think it's the dot clock)it tells you how to do it in the SSF config thread in console gaming/emulation.
But it would help to know what your laptop's specs are before we jump to that conclusion.

Intel Pentium M 1.4Gbz
640mb ram
64mb ddr nvidia geforceFX Go5200
As for dot clock, i tried goin as low as 2.00 and as high as 3.00 before. When I bring it down, it doesnt lag but moves really slooow...

Well, it's not your computer.
Increase the dot clock to 4.00, most games will run faster like that, though some will crash.
If it works, most games will run at a reasonable speed on ssf.
So you know, some games will load pretty bad on ssf, but that's the game, not ssf.
The saturn had loading problems.

So GURU, you reckon my lappy's specs good enough? Does that mean all I need is to tinker the ssf configs?

Well, my laptop isn't as powerful as yours and i can play most of mine fine, (i don't even have a graphics card) so you should be able to run it perfectly yourself.
Yeah, just tinker with it, but be sure to check out mishi's SSF compatibility list, though not updated to the newer versions, for the most part that has all of the compatibility explained.
Oh and try to run them through a virtual drive, if you've burnt them to discs they may lag(that would be the cd drive's fault though).
A warning:Guardian heroes can only be played properly by doing A LOT of work to basically make it a perfect copy of the game(specifically designed for SSF), i'd just wait a few months for someone to start hosting the game since i only know of one copy in existence at the moment and it would cost probably 70-100$ buying the software to make it yourself.
EDIT-on a side note, shining the holy ark needs to be the PAL version to work properly from what i've heard, castlevania is just plain bad on the saturn(probably not SSF's fault) and i have no experience with shining force 3.

Thanks for the tip, guru. Finally manage to find time to tinker SSF.
These are the main configs I made ( I believe this is the main recommendation for best optimum to run perfectly good):
Cd drive read sector: 16
dot clock: 3.50
1 block clock: 100
sh2 speed: 100
sh2 instruction: 40
cd sector numbers per second: 150
Auto field skip: tick
These config numbers still giv me lag.
However when I untick auto field skip, the game's smooth, but really slooow.

Well, some games will lag no matter what(it's a compatability issue),however this is supposed to be the way to be the fastest running SSF config:

Also, enabling scan lines will give you a boost in speed as well, though i'd use them as a last resort, since they affect picture quality.
Thank mishi for the pic btw.

Meh, tried the 4.00 dot clock and enabling scan lines, still lags.
I'm goin bonkers here...

Well, i'm just going to have to say if that doesn't work than nothing will, though the only thing i can think of is that you have chosen a couple of bad roms.
I stay away from SSF myself, but i know tengai makyo and samurai spirits rpg run at full speed in it, even with the dot clock set at 2.00.
I guess you could try tracking down cassini, it will run them faster, though i have no idea how to configure it.

Pssh, even cassini doesnt wanna work with me, keeps sayin can't find .bin file, sound card incompatible.
Oh well, thanks for the time tatsuya. I guess I'll keep myself off saturn emu till I'm kool enough to try again.
