Hi everybody, ive just joined the forums today, and i would like to firstly say how extremely happy i am with the service on offer here at CoolROM.com, and secondly how i would love to see the service last. So donations a-plenty :)

Back to my topic;

I remember some years ago (4-5) i stumbled across the MESS emulator randomly while searching for MAME32. I installed it and found how fantastic it really was, it emulated every console i needed and with all the settings from MAME32. Moving on, 4-5 years later, the other week, i thought of it again, found its official website and download the very latest version which is v105 like the new mame versions too. It was even more greater then it was, it now emulates a larger amount of consoles (around 150-200 - SNES, Megadrive, MasterSystem, Playstation, N64 ect..) and supports Direct3D acceleration and filtering etc, and 48Khz sample rates as a sound example. Theres nothing better then having every console emulated from within a single program together with MAME32's great options. Its perfect. :)

What i have found however is that the latest versions from i think
v.92 > v105, there seems to be alot of errors and crashing randomly. Its irritatting as MESS has just finally reached its best, offering every option a Rom'er can want. Im not too sure if its system dependant, and thus being the cause of the errors here and there, but if anybody also uses MESS, why not post back with your views, see if we can get some info going. :)

Hi there, welcome to the boards :).

I've used MESS for a while but I like stand alone emulators better, especially because there's Kreed blitters for these things :p. But yeah, MESS is very complete and I'm very content with it, just like with MAME. But where I use MAME for Arcade emulation I do not use MESS for console emulation :)...

You have a very good point, MAME for arcade but standalone emulators for each other console, its so true. Mind you, i uninstalled MESS shortly after trying v105 lol, so i cant really say how content i am in regards to using it all the time. Am i correct in saying the Kreed blitter is an effect that looks kind of cartoony, like its been handpainted or something? Snes9x and gens use these dont they? Kreed, Sal etc..?

Yes, I like it when the Kreed engine is on, it makes the graphics nice and smooth , I don't like it very much when they R all blocky and pixelated :p...
