*** Now updated with the latest plugins Pete's 1.77 and OGL2 2.9 ( Open GL2 ) ***
Both offer more flexibility to better suit your needs and offer the best experience you can
possibly have while playing on your EPSXE Emulator.
Note: I also put in a little bonus. In the OGL2 2.9 Plugin there is the option in full-screen
filtering in the shader section. You can chose 1 of 4 shaders and just polish the gaming
experience a bit. Be sure to pick the maximum level just left of it. ( If you look around
google there are many more and different shaders to download )

This site is awesome. People seem friendly enough. I tried the ePSXe and got all the files, but it wouldn't run Vagrant Story like I wanted it to. Hopefully this will be better!
Anyway, I got a little confused, but this version of ePSXe is much better. It has a lot more options. Problem is, I just don't understand them. I found a list of settings for FFVII and they worked for Vagrant Story's movies, but the actual gameplay seems to be "sped up" like it's being fast forwarded. Can any body that plays Vagrant Story let me know the appropriate settings?

That has nothing to do with vagrant story, to slow it down all you need to do is turn on FPS limit in the video plugin settings, it's pretty easy to find.
Winston
02-04-2009, 03:01 PM
Its Set to 200. Either Set it to around typically its 34 you'd want but I think actually 50 for the PSX emulator, and also theres another option you can choose that limists the FPS.
EDIT: To get there go to configure, then to video, then chose the first configure again, then at the topish, right part.
Wow thanks for getting to me so fast. I knew it had to do with the settings, I just didn't know which. I also got Herc's Adventures (my friend told me about it for years) which ran ok, but certain parts were also sped up. Thanks again!
ok. so I downloaded the emulator you posted Winston, but it won't work for some reason. It says "This application has failed to start because burutter.dll was not found." "Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
any help would be great. i'm using winzip to open the files and also they don't stay in a folder opened up. i keep having to re-open them with winzip.
Winston
02-05-2009, 02:50 PM
Haha. Extract the files, then from the extracted folder run the emulator.
well i've got it working now.....kind of. i put in all the video, sound, bios, etc. what do i do next? is this emulator equipped with FF7? or do i have to manually go and get and put it in. and how do i play? do i go to run cd-rom?
i'm almost able to play just a little more help would be great. Thanks in advance!!
Winston
02-05-2009, 04:11 PM
No it does not come with FF7 haha or any game, each disk for a ps1 game is about 400-700 megabytes. FF7 is three disks and about 1.8 Gigs. They will save to your computer as an unknown file, but don't wory the emulator will recognize it. They are called .ISO, BIN, or CUE Usually and they are the "images" of discs. Go to the PSX ISO Thread and downlaod the file thats all.. just open file...
thanks Winston!!! I've got it up and going but the sound is a bit crappy. and is the screen always like that, where you can't see your pointer? when i point my mouse where the game is i can't see my pointer. i have to guess where it is. kind of weird.
Winston
02-05-2009, 09:15 PM
Um yeah your mouse "won't work" with it open. Just press and hold alt tab to switch windows it it'll go away and your mouse will come back... if sound is crappy consider changing the sound plugin... if you have lite on its icky, so change it.
thanks Winston! I'm up and playing. The sound is good it just gets scratchy at times. I turned the volume down so maybe there would be less scratchy-ness. Everything seems to be good though. Thanks a lot man! You are the best!!!! I'm back playing one of my top favorite games from my younger days.
Thanks again, Mate

I'm aware of its existence, and your welcome to upload it to the subforum or even here... but I don't care too much for 2D psx games, and since this is an emulator for my personal use, you "likely" won't find anything with extra support for 2D emulation.. haha

I found a list of settings for FFVII on ePSXe and though I haven't downloaded the game (I have an original copy and ps3 to play it) I've used the settings to "fix" Vagrant Story and Xenogears. I was wondering if there were any specific settings for either of these games? Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot.
Winston
02-22-2009, 06:39 AM
You mean in the config for the graphics plugin right?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what I mean.
It was a list of settings to use when going through config I believe.
Winston
02-23-2009, 06:57 PM
Basically what you want, depending on the power of your computer, is to have everything put to the max, such as off screen drawing at 4 ( garbage ) it just tries to bring out every little bit of the game it can.... i'm being vague here just because its faster, but in a lot of cases, in the FF games a lot, it actually is the difference between having a battle screen or not.
Really just click on nice, that box at the bottom, and your set. Anything seem off, just put everything to what appears the highest. Still bad?Tell me, i'll fix it.

Hm, One day I'll inquire to an FAQ. For now....
Go to configure, video, configure again, set graphics to "nice" ( at bottom ) you may want to set off=screen drawing to 4. Next, Special game fixes..

Make sure that special games fixes is checked on though on the original window.

I just downloaded the FF7 bin file, along with
eSPXe.exe v. 1.7.0 emulator.
I configured the video and graphics (hitting 'nice'), as recommended by
Winston.
However, when I run the FF7.bin file, the following error come up:
ePSXe: Opcode[3f-ffffff00] in PC [bfc00000] UNKNOWN [00000000:000:0]
any ideas?
thanks

Are you sure its a .bin file? I haven't downloaded this ISO yet because I have the originals. but how large is the bin file? Should be at least 400 MB's. Most commonly an ISO or even Cue File..
So see if there is no other file or something... to lazy... girl over... good bye

When you download the rar file you have to extract the iso from the file. To extract rar files it is required to have the program "winrar". Then you go "file" to "run" then browse for the ISO and run it.

When that kind of thing happens, you just have to fool around with the settings on your graphics plug-ins till it comes up. Happend to me with FF8. By the way, don't use save states with this emulator in FF9, it seems to cause a lot of problems.

Thats why I said pre-built haha. With custom built you choose your hardware and you choose the plugin you want, but with pre-built.. in the standard desktop today your stuck with the intel integrated X3100 or 4500, both crap DirectX intel cards... yuck.

Sorry for double post but I like the fact it sends another notification.
The emulator now appears to be working again, I tested it myself played FF7,8,9 no problem, and played Chrono Cross no problem as well. The video plugin may be getting a little outdated, but there is still a fix for the "videos" that are played during gameplay. Example the airship taking off in that farmer town in FF9, it typically freezes, but now it will not.
EDIT
Added Pete's 1.77 and Open GL2 2.9. I also added some shaders. In OGL2 2.9 go to full-screen filtering, Shader effects, chose one of four that I've included and experience a little more psx goodness.
I actually would recommend this plugin even if you have a intel card or some crappy vid card. IT actually recognizes 512mb vram now, thank god for my laptop's HD2600 haha. Anyways your choice between Pete 1.77 ( also has OGL option though ) and OGL 2.9
Note: There are many more shaders to download.

Is an ATI Radeon decent enough?
Winston
06-26-2009, 02:53 PM
The Original ATI Radeon... Definitely not haha. But if you have a numbered Radeon you'd be better equipped. For example an ATI Radeon 9000 or 9500. You'd be set with one of either of those, but you might be limited to how much enhancing you can do to the base game.

Ok first of all you probably already knew very well your computer was more than well capable of running the PSX. Your computer would also have no trouble running the PS2 emulator... even with it maxed out.
Just max out on directX and on OpenGL and see what suits you better. Although OpenGL does have a few shaders I threw in... overall probably more eye candy, but you should still try both see if theres any difference to you.

thanks Winston, it's great to have such a complete package in one file! I don't want to complain on a full stomach, but I say it's missing the peops video plugin... although it's not as polished as Pete's it works with every game, it's very fast and it displays everything when I have problems with other plugins.
Winston
08-31-2009, 04:33 PM
Thanks, I should add that too haha. I should probably just go ahead and find everything possible and jam it in there.

yes that's true, which is the reason this download is more recommended than the one in the emulator section. BTW, is there a reason why it's in both sections?

ah that explains it.
Winston
09-01-2009, 12:19 AM
It gets a fair amount of downloads from this site alone, unless someone else has upped it somewhere else, otherwise, the first one I put up.. which for some reason gets DL's even if I took it down haha, has 2315 Downloads the new one I put up... last month or something, has 529.. on another note the PS2 Emu also has 597. But in total almost 3k downloads off of the PSX emu.

09-01-2009, 09:46 PM
Not bad! I had sound issues in one part of a game today; I got a bunch of sound plugins but couldn't get anything that worked better than what's already there.
How's PS2 emulation? I haven't tried it yet because everybody says it's slow at best, but I assume if you uploaded an emulator you must have had decent results with it, no?
Winston
09-01-2009, 09:49 PM
Only with less demanding games. With the fps on this emu you need about 60 to run games like FF10 or 12 at normal speed but at best I was getting 40-50 and sometimes only 30. So I couldn't stand it haha
N1ghtWalff

Be sure to configure the soft video plugin. It governs the emulator's ability to handle 2D images, like textures mapped to polygons or the pixels that make up sprites. People often overlook it when they first setup ePSXe because they assume a single video plugin will suffice.

You are awesome. Thank you so much, for some reason I'm an idiot and couldn't get this stuff to work before, but now I can play all those games I only got to rent when I was a kid. I've tried to get this stuff a few times, but this is the first time it actually worked, it could also have something to do with the fact that I got a new computer, or 'cause I'm older, but no matter what, it comes down to the fact that you put this on here, and now I can enjoy all the games I never got a chance to before. You are awesome. The only slight problem is when the videos play, on the top and bottom it gets all twitchy, if you can explain why that would be cool, but it still works, so it isn't a big problem, just curious.

How do you mean twitchy.. like frame skips? or the video itself just is smooth but just "moves" around a bit.
And I know I'm awesome.

*Included in the download* Most of the necessary ones. Usually they don't come with it... originally they didn't as of I remember so many odd years ago, but I try to update them every now and then and put some new things in for everyones enjoyment/entertainment. More plugins, more options, less problems.

Don't be too quick to blame my emulator upload. I just tried it now with 6 other games and it still runs like a charm. No complaints from anyone else, results speak more than words.
Make sure your video card is compatible/up-to-date/compatible with your current plugin. Make sure your ISO is not corrupt make sure it is compatible, also make sure there is not a special fix within the configuration tool for that certain game, more often than not there is a fix for a certain game with some silly problem.
I can put you through some other junk too if none of this applies so long as you try at an attempt to fix it and then reply to me.

Did you set all the plugins with the wizard?
OpenGL 2.0 will typically work on any video card. Although the Pete's plugins with "DX" are made to work with DirectX which is a standard for almost any video game out now... your best bet is the DX plugins, but it shouldn't matter if you use the OpenGL.
For my video I use. Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.9
Sound is: P.E.Op.S. DSound Audio Driver 1.9
For CD-ROM: ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K core 1.7.0
This BIOS which I included should be the scph1001.bin
So when you select BIOS if it is not there already, this applies to most blanks likely...
Go to the bios folder then select scph1001.bin
These can all be found in Config.
Within the Config of the Config of the video... usually just clicking the "Nice" button should suffice. There are also Special game fixes at the bottom. Click on the little square with the 3 little dots after it and looks around inside. Then make sure the fix box is checked off.
A lot of problems can be solved by trial/error and discovering things for yourself. Not to be a jerk, but, how do you think ever solved any problems? It's just a matter of fiddling, diddling, and a very minor knowledge of how a computer works haha. I think I was 16 when I posted this... haha.

please help me....
how to use joypad in epsxe??..
thanks... :):):)
To use your joypad. First make sure its connected to your computer. Hopefully you've taken this step haha. Secondly, open your PSX emulator and go to the "Config" drop down.
At the bottom you will see "Game Pad" Go to Port 1, then select Pad 1. This option should be the only available.
A new window should pop up. It will show a layout of the controller. When you click on one of the boxes with the default keyboard configurations you should then press the desired button on your joypad. In terms of your joystick push it in the direction desired. If you see a -ve/+ve this is good. Or x/y axis. For the other buttons it typically appears as "button 1, button 10, button 3, etc."
NOTE: I believe you also have to change the [SCPH-1080] drop down to dual analog or dual shock.. depends on the joypad. I don't remember having to do this though. I use (used to use haven't used my emulator in 6 months or so) an XBOX 360 controller. So it certainly works. Good luck!

Virtually yes. My file is certainly virus free, 10 000 downloads without any replies saying there is a virus in it would lead me to believe it is virus free.
The "virtually" is indicating a time where a program calculating pi would be a virus. In which i'm trying to say; maybe your cpu is too low of a frequency.
In retrospect now too though.. it would be good of you to make make sure your video card drivers are fully updated and that your video configuration on in the config for the plugin is set to "nice".

I made the original package on XP probably, but I use Windows 7 now and I never get the error, as well I upped this current one on Windows 7. It might be just the fact that you've never opened to program on your computer, and that once you did, after a few times, that it recognized that you had the file and/or could use it.

I still get the error from time to time, I just ignore it though and reopen the emulator. It's like the file just shows up when it feels like it.
